I took lessons from Brian for almost two years. When I started, I was just getting back to drumming after years of break and trying to pick it up before I signed up for a band in Blue Bear School of Music. What I loved about Brian's teaching style is that his emphasis on improvisation and feeling what sounds good versus bad. At lessons played a variety of rhythms in our heads to get started followed by playing the songs that we pick. I love his way of teaching feeling. Moreover, also, he is super fun and friendly to talk to, and every week the lessons with him were my excellent therapy to boost my mood. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to build a solid foundation to their drumming.

Wish the lessons were more customized to each person. I hoped to see quicker results, but didn't learn much after a handful of lessons.

Dear Susan, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. While I understand the fact that you were not seeing immediate results, I can assure you that you were on track to developing a high level of musical proficiency. Typically, the initial 4 drum sessions simply cultivate a solid drumming foundation for each student, with the intention of building upon it moving forward. My goal is to pursue each individuals' creative style in drumming, rather than a cookie-cutter method. I stand behind my teaching methods which have proven successful over the past 15 years. As a result, many of my students have broadened their talents and have achieved their musician goals by performing in live bands. If time permits, I would be happy to continue working with you. Sincerely, Brian

About this pro

One unique approach to my teaching is that I use 2 drum sets in my studio. I learned to play this way, by playing along with my teacher, and getting down his feel, groove, and timing. I use the same approach, instead of 'Here, let me show you how to do it.' I have found this method is extremely effective and increases learning rates exponentially. I love my job because I get to go to work and show people how to express themselves through music. Music is such a powerful source. It defies and defines borders, languages, and cultures. Music is found in every crevice on planet earth. My job is to teach and guide each and every student through a successful musical process.
