Joyce is the best cat sitter one can find. She was always there for Sona our cat and checked in with us daily. Sona was so happy to see Joyce and was greeting her as soon as she arrived. She is a keeper! Thank you Joyce for an amazing job!

Tiffany was an excellent and trustworthy sitter. Our young cat (under 1 year) did not lack for attention. She kept us apprised of how he was, including texting photos and reported on his comfort and behavior. We would highly recommend her. We will be engaging her again soon. Our kitty clearly felt good around her. Teis and Gloria

Shelley and her family did an amazing job caring for my car sushi while I was away traveling. She is a very nice and kind person that just loves animals. Shelley would send us daily status updates on how sushi was doing along with super cute photos. She's exactly what we needed in a cat sitter and we will be hiring her again when we travel. I highly recommend her.

Marina is the absolute best!!! We have 2 cats, one of which has diabetes. Marina came to our house twice a day for over 2 weeks while we were in Europe. She administered insulin. fed the cats, and cleaned the litter box ever time she visited. We have had many cat sitters in the past and it was obvious as soon as you meet Marina that she has such a calming presence and really understands and loves animals.

Elizabeth is fabulous. We had a new puppy and an older dog and she bonded with both of them very quickly....She is kind, responsible, on time, and very reliable. She understands dogs very well and what they need. Our dogs are high energy and she walked them alot when she sat, and taught them to be better on leads....what a nice gift.... Our family and our canines can not say enough good things about Eilzabeth....having her help is priceless.

I have tried other pet service companies in the past, & never had good experiences. A coworker suggested Fetch to me since they had used them and were always happy with the care provide. I was able to schedule a free meeting with the pet sitter, who was professional but also very caring, it was clear she loved taking. of pets and enjoyed working with the owners more as family than just a client. She did an excellent job of providing updates while we were gone, & went beyond our expectations in performing her tasks. She even sent us a couple of photos of our pets doing silly things! We are happy that we tried Fetch, & have used them several times now all with the same outstanding result!

Kevin is very responsive, friendly, and most of all, great with my 1 year old recently rescued pup, who comes home from his walks tired and happy. He's also very helpful with tips on how to help your dog work on any issues.

Stephen has been our dog sitter for over 2 years. We have a pit bull named Champ and he absolutely loves going to Stephens! I've always felt comfortable leaving Champ with Stephen, as he truly cares about dogs and has an outstanding knowledge of how to handle them! Stephen is known for walking multiple dogs at a time, upwards of 10, with comfort and ease (well, he makes it look easy anyway!) Also, Champ has always come home better behaved (trained) than when he went, and always thoroughly worn out from all the playing! I can't say enough good things about Stephen! We are so thankful to have him in our lives, especially Champ! Thank you Stephen for your hard work and dedication to all the local doggies!!

Erika takes excellent care of my cats. She always sends pictures or videos and status updates when she is watching them. They seem happier and calmer when I get home than they have when I used other cat sitters. She follows care instructions well, is very easy to schedule with and her rates are competitive. She's clearly an animal lover!

Christina was amazing cat sitter for us. She checked in on Merlin once every couple of days while we were out on a week long vacation. She not only followed every instruction we left her, but also went out of her way to bond with our cat and keep him company (and trust me our cat is not the easiest to bond with). She knowledgeable and confident around pets. I will definitely be checking if she is available next time we need a pet sitter.

Peggy (and Loving Paws) is a compassionate, caring animal professional. She has helped my pit bull mix, Barney, to be more calm and well behaved just by walking him. The services she offers are everything you could possibly want from a pet sitter and specialist. She is always on time. I am looking forward to continue using her services as she is honest and dependable.

Holly and Piva are wonderful pet sitters. Our dogs had a great time with them while we were away and even our cat, who generally goes AWOL when we do, ended up thinking they were pretty special people.

I hightly recommend Tina to anyone looking for a loyal, caring, flexible and consistent dog sitter/walker/caregiver. Tina was my lifeline when it came to helping with my girls. Whether it was daily visits while I was at the office or extended home stays while I was traveling, I could always count on Tina! We were very sad to say goodbye when it was time to move back to Chicago.

Pam took excellent care of our 3 dogs: she walked, fed, brushed them and administered eye drops to one of them. She also demonstrated initiative in the house and kept in touch with me the whole time. I highly recommend her as a dog sitter and will definitely use her services again in the future. She is a trustworthy person, her prices are reasonable and I am glad I found her on Thumbtack!

I am so happy to have found Uncle Joe. In fact he is currently looking after my cats while I am away! I am usually very uncomfortable having anyone in my house, especially when I'm gone, but I feel none of that with Joe. He sends me a photo and quick update each time he visits which really sets my mind at ease. He also offers to bring in mail, water plants, and other extras which is really nice. His prices are very reasonable and he even offers a price break if you buy a "package" of visits, which is great for frequent travelers or a long trip. He was incredibly thorough during our first meeting, getting a ton of info and background. He is a natural, a true animal lover, and really knows his stuff--he's made for this line of work. I have never been so happy with another cat sitter and I have used quite a few. Do yourself a favor, give Uncle Joe's Pet Care a try!

We've had Gina house-sit and stay with our precious Shih Tzus for years. She is absolutely dedicated to loving and caring for animals. She is experienced in giving medications, when necessary and our girls love her. I never worry about a thing when we travel. We've been gone as long as two weeks, and Gina is professional in every way. I highly recommend Gina for pet-sitting, dog walking, or any job related to your precious pets.

Adam was amazing with our dog Ella, both when he house sat for us and when he walks her from time to time. When Adam comes to the door Ella immediately is over the moon excited and knows exactly where to go and sit after she is done saying hello.... yes you got it, next to his car so she can go for a ride and a hike. Adam also surprised me when I got home by having the sheets from the bed he slept in while he was house sitting all washed, folded and sitting on the end of the bed. What a delight not to need to clean up after a house sitter. I give Adam "4 Paws Up"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
