Introduction: Playing saxophone since '01 and a regular performer in San Francisco. My teaching approach is deep, fun, and simple. I use structured styles of learning and practice to maintain an approachable level of difficulty that challenges you to grow but does not overwhelm you into giving up. You are a serious student who wants to develop rapidly with an open mind. I can teach you how to improvise effortlessly with any instrument over any song. Whether you are a beginner or an expert with your instrument, improvising can be a daunting challenge if you've never tried playing music without reading off a sheet. Let me help you build your relationship with sound through ear-training and transcription to unlock your ability to play what you think. I am an engineer with a Master's degree and a CrossFit athlete. My journey through life has taught me a lot about what it means to be a human. I am happy to offer my insights to you in the hopes that it helps you on your journey.

Abdo S.

He is very knowledgeable in music theory and can apply it across different instruments. He is patient and can identify strengths as well as areas that you can improve on. He can help guide you in the right direction, and give you many simple pointers that will come a long way in improving your technique, understanding, and confidence to pave your own learning path. More importantly, he stays grounded and doesn’t let his expertise from connecting with those with less experience in music, and will know how to simplify a concept. Sunny the sax is one positive and enthusiastic musician!

Mish is a patient and knowledgable instructor who has helped me with my trumpet playing on several occasions over the last year. Whether we are jamming together or he's explaining a music theory concept, we have fun, and I learn something new. Playing with Mish is way more fun than practicing alone, and I learn more too.

I met Sunny when he was playing his sax at the Golden Gate Park. I asked him if he would like to be part of my Youtube channel playing one of my songs. He promptly made himself available and the results are above and beyond. Great professional with outstanding talent. I confidently recommend him.

He inspired me to learn the saxophone and when I found he was teaching I got so happy and he taught me really well. He was very patient and encouraging and allowed me to take my time and be comfortable. He also is able to perform very well, I’ve watched him perform many times and he has so much passion towards what he is doing. I really appreciate the time and effort he puts into it.

Look no further for building blocks of jazz and saxophone. Hard-working and consistent, Sunny will teach you not only what to practice, but how to practice...he says it like it is, while still being a caring mentor.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My sessions are costly because you don't need many of them. You are someone who understands that practice is what's required to make progress and the real cost of learning is the effort you put into it not how many lessons you take. Every lesson with me gets you two weeks of dedicated text/communication support via phone, email, social media, WhatsApp, Snapchat, IG, FB, or whatever you prefer. For performances or music recordings, you can hire me independently or with a band. I perform with my five-piece band, Curious Planet, playing Jazz, Funk, originals, and vocals (check out the videos here or on my YouTube channel).

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

First, listen. Understand where you are coming from and what you are trying to achieve. With your goals in mind, we will identify the most effective areas for you to focus your practice and see the quickest results. I offer structured learning approaches, habits, practice routines, and methods of organizing your time. I work best with students who are serious about developing their skills rapidly. You tell me what you want to learn and I'll show you the easiest way to go about it.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Professional jazz musician in San Francisco. Check out my YouTube channel by searching for Sunny the Sax or linked in my website. Visit my Instagram or TikTok (@sunnythesax). Many years of sax and jazz lessons with professionals. Studying lots of books and online resources which I can share with you. Thousands of hours of practice.
