I am taking private yoga lessons with Amanda twice a week and OMG, what a privilege! Once I retired I promised myself that I would use my hard earned money to do something special for myself. One of my desires was to find someone who could help me get back to myself after so many years of giving to everyone else. I was skeptic the first time I met Amanda because I was so much older than she but after 10 minutes talking with her I knew I had ended my search. She put me at ease immediately as she listened patiently to all of my requirements without interruption. I have taken many yoga classes in my 65 years (both private and group) but this is the first time I have been fortunate enough to have found someone who can teach me how to tap into my total self. My experience with Amanda has been phenomenal. She is a truly devoted teacher with an in-depth knowledge of the true philosophy of yoga. Amanda shares her skills and experiences in a kind and non egotistical way. I come away from each session in touch with myself on so many different levels. Amanda is not just a yoga asana instructor she is a true yoga teacher. I am very fortunate to have become one of her students and always look forward to our time together.

I had never taken a yoga class before my first class with Shirley. In my first class, she introduced me to many principles of yoga (beyond just teaching me poses and postures) that continue to inform my life on a daily basis. She teaches in an engaging and holistic way that really awakened me as a physical being with mind and spirit. When you take a class with Shirley, you're not just getting a yoga class, but learning a skill set for growth. I suppose I wouldn't have even known that was the function of yoga without a teacher like her. Highly recommended.

I have been going through some general tiredness and fatigue which is a classic Silicon Valley syndrome. I registered for the Health based yoga offered in the Saratoga Community Center for about $80 which is such a good deal for about 12 classes. If you cannot make it to a particular class, they even let you makeup the class on another day which is awesome. Our instructor was Asha Ramkumar from India. She teaches the traditional and authentic yoga from India. It is very hard to find authentic Indian yoga in Silicon Valley since most of the classes I have taken previously has always been some kind of 'Fusion Yoga' with a lot of western concepts sprinkled in. Authentic Indian yoga has been practiced for generations in India and if taught by a knowledgeable yoga instructor the benefits are many. I can almost guarantee that you will never need to go to a doctor for prescription medication. Asha is also very knowledgeable in Ayurvedic medicine although she is not certified. She combines this knowledge with her Yoga techniques and it has helped me so much with my fatigue. I have so much energy now that it is unbelievable. I would encourage everybody to give it a try. Contact Asha for private group lessons as well. I am planning to sign her up to come in to my business on a regular basis to teach my employees onsite. She is extremely reasonable in her pricing and it is definitely worth it.

Last year, Trent helped my husband Trevor and I as we worked through some communication concerns in advance of our wedding. Trent helped us identify unhealthy patterns in our communication styles. As a result of Trent's coaching, Trevor and I were able to identify workable solutions, and a year later, we continue to see the benefits of incorporating those lessons. In fact, the improved communication we developed after working with Trent has further strengthened our relationship, and it's definitely helping us as we move forward in our married life together. Thank you Trent :-)

Thank you, WAM Consulting! After years at a well known tech company in Silicon Valley I was presented with a new job opportunity. I will continue to work with Andrea and the team at WAM. They have a strong team of subject matter experts across many categories.

I've been taking private lessons with Timur for a couple of months now, and I'm so impressed with his level of skill in integrating internal martial arts into every day movements and running! He's taught me to use muscles at will, which I've never knew existed! And I have a background in dance, and so learning entire muscle groups which I haven't used in decades was astounding!!! He's certainly helped me to improve the fluidity, ease, and strength of my movements.

Even brief lessons are worth getting if they're from Jonathan Reyles. He has shown me simple techniques of the yoga and movement variety that have actually helped me control my own stress within moments. His teaching has been an incredible gift. I highly recommend this teacher.

David provided critical group facilitation, civic engagement, and direct training to cross-sector and interdisciplinary beneficiaries in a $50,000 USD public health project I launched in Peru. The U.S. President's Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief funded a portion of the project, while local Peruvian government agencies funded matching contributions. David's role was to meet with governors, mayors, teachers, youth, and other stakeholders to stimulate interest in combating HIV in a large but underserved province in northern Peru, particularly among youth populations most affected by a growing concentrated epidemic. He led or co-facilitated a series of successful training sessions with teachers, students, and health officials covering topics such as leadership, communication, and disease prevention. David's dedication, efficiency, and innovation in delivering resources and information contributed to our team reaching over 1,000 key stakeholders and beneficiaries.

Katie is an amazing coach with a very unique gift that truly shined throughout the entire coaching process. Trust is key in any relationship, but it was specifically critical to me in our coaching relationship because I needed to feel comfortable enough to share my life experiences, challenges and dreams in their rawest form, without feeling judged. Katie is so authentic and open-minded. It was easy for us to establish a relationship of trust and authenticity at our very first session, where she clearly defined her role as the coach, and demonstrated a genuine interest in my own expectations of our relationship. I found that the most powerful part of the coaching process was drawing energy and strength from the proudest and happiest moments of my life, to overcome today's challenges, and silence the inner saboteur that tells me I'm inadequate. Katie's creativity is not only contagious, it's unmatched. She is a divergent thinker and has helped me to discover the universe of possibilities within my reach. Katie has helped me to re-purpose my life with renewed vigor and credence in my ability to break through the glass ceilings I've lived under for so long. She is an absolute gem and I highly recommend her for personal and leadership development coaching.

I was incredibly lucky to meet Amanda while I was on a personal retreat in India. It was a serendipitous meeting because I ended up really needing the clear outlook and wise views that Amanda had to share. Her advice and insights come from an old soul who has travelled around the world, and along the way, picked up a detailed observation of the human experience in all of its joys and challenges. With Amanda's guidance, I was able to sort through my personal discoveries made on my retreat, relate them to my previous emotional imbalances, and develop a plan to move forward with enlightened perspectives paired with meditation and yoga practices. My growth would not have been nearly as great without her help. Her observations are keen and advice spot on. Everyone would benefit working with her! Even more amazingly, I was also able to take private and group yoga lessons with Amanda! Her qualities I described above make for a beautifully focused practice. Not to mention, her eye for corrections and ability to manually adjust my postures really helped me gain new insight on a few of my postures. Thank you, Amanda, for all of your help! I hope paths soon cross again!!

Stephanie has been my personal trainer and has provided group dance lessons for a group of girls between the ages of 8-17. Stephanie is AMAZING!! she is able to help you work out and sweat with a smile on your face. She helps you create a plan that works for you and that is truly based on your realities. As a group teacher she is able to help all the people in the group join in and try new things that they might be shy or unsure about. Kids love her teaching and I as an adult, who doesn't like to work out, LOVE working out with her.

*How did Irina help you grow into a leadership position?* First and foremost- Irina took a chance on me when hiring me- Not only had I never really had a full sales role before, but I also was coming from a completely different industry. Irina believed in me and recognized my dedication, passion, and past experience. She taught me the steps I'd need to grow my network and close deals. I soaked everything up like a sponge and implemented what she taught me immediately, and it paid off. In less than 2 years, I went from a senior BDR to a Director of sales at a successful ad tech company (which had huge financial benefits too). She has continued to help push me to believe in myself and have confidence in my work for my next step. I don't know where I'd be without her today. *What kept you from growing into a leadership role before working with Irina?* My mindset has been my biggest detriment. Also, like many women, we don't want to step on people's toes, even if we know inside we can do it. I can easily convince myself out of anything, or find an excuse to think I'm not skilled enough. Irina has made me a confident leader and I look forward to continuing to grow with her help. *If you were to recommend Irina as a mentor/coach what would you say?* I'd say do it, what's holding you back? You are in good hands! When I first met Irina- I wondered, how does she do it? Always poised, beyond organized, well kept, executes on every action, is one of the most positive people I know. With Irina, you will get someone who will change your mindset to believe in yourself, someone who will give you the formula for success- all you have to do is commit to implementing it, and you will get someone who will give you honest and straight forward feedback. I'll never forget when she was my manager after one bad pitch, she asked, how do you think you did? I answered- poorly. She answered, you're correct, that was not great, and it was not your best work. After giving me the feedback to improve, she said I believe in you and know you will fix it for next time. And I did. I think that story showcases the type of mentor you will get- someone who makes you reflect, pushes you, and believes in you. She can do wonders in a short period of time. I've learned more in a week from her training than I have in total in the previous 7 years in the workforce.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

        • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
        • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
        • Defining your career goals
        • Creating a plan for job searching
        • Improving networking strategies and skills
        • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
        • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
        • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

        Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

        • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
        • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
        • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
        • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
        • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
        • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
        • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

        What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
