FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $40 per hour for private classes in my San Ramon studio. Prices for purchases of art works in galleries or the studio are published. Prices for commissions are negotiable. My pricing and fee structure is both reasonable, customary and based upon my professional history. From time to time I'll make considerations for individual circumstances.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I encourage prospective students and clients to visit me in my studio so that we may consult about projects, classes and/or commissions. Relevant works I've done can be seen in person. Because the nature of private instruction is very personal, getting to know individual preferences, abilities and goals is vital to designing a meaningful course of study, project or work of art. Then, a visit to the location where the work is to be done is next, if appropriate. Commissions are designed first as written concepts, then drawings. Upon approval of the concept and drawings, a written contract designating the scope and time line of the project, and media, legal and monetary considerations is signed. Work begins. Progress reports and in person visits are scheduled. The project is brought to conclusion with delivery and installation of the piece.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold an MFA (Masters in Fine Art) from U.C,Berkeley. I've taught drawing, painting and sculpture at Humboldt State University, Southern Illinois University, and I mentor high school students in the ACT/SAT college boards in the Dublin Unified School District and San Ramon Valley Unified School District. I've achieved technical proficiency and professional competency in numerous 2-D and 3-D media and processes. My continuing education consists of visiting fine art galleries and museums in the San Francisco Bay Area. I review exhibitions at the deYoung/Legion of Honor Museums and the SFMOMA in San Francisco as well as the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek. I'm taking classes in 3-D printing.
