Excellent job from DeNoise Studios. They did photography and videography for my late father's memorial services. They were very professional and treated everyone with the utmost respect. The photos and video came out fantastic and really captured the essence and emotion of the memorial. The post editing process was also smooth and the team was very responsive to our suggestions. Thank you DeNoise Studios! Highly recommended. The only suggestion I would have is that would have been great to include an HD or dvd copy of the video as part of the package. Otherwise, everything else is perfect.

I used Lawrence for my wedding and couldn't be any happier with the photography and video he did. I was very surprised with how much video he was able to get between taking photos. Lawrence was a pleasure to work with, he showed up earlier then excepted and stayed later to capture every moment of my wedding. I would highly recommend Lawrence and will definitely be using him again if I need a photographer or video!

I interviewed about 15 photographers to try to find the perfect one and I finally did! I had a lot of specific requests that I wanted photos and video footage of many special things so that my video can turn out the way I want it to and give a specific story, both Ruben and Omar jumped in no problem! They were always around me whenever I needed and it was fast and easy to get pictures with everyone and not waste time. I can not wait to are the final product! So far the preview pictures I have got have had emotion and been beautiful! Here is a picture of my husband and dad and probably one of my favorite photos ever now! I really suggest using these guys... I have already had 3 friends from the wedding ask for their contact information! They won't disappoint!

Steve is very easy going. This makes the whole experience go smoothly and painlessly. On our session, Steve brought a collection of pose template images with him which helped us figure out what to do and decide which poses we like. After the session he was very prompt with the delivery of the digital photos. Overall, I would repeat this experience possibly with a longer duration. The duration of our shoot was 90-minutes and time went by much faster than expected. Even then, Steve managed to fit in about 10 different poses.

I had to do a short congratulatory video for a friend who is collecting a major award at the Cannes Festival. I come from the ad industry so I'm used to working with filmmakers, photographers etc; I found Ilja to be totally professional, easy to work with (even when I switched the brief) and affordable. He also has a good eye for lighting and performance. Would I use him again? Absolutely.

Nicholas did an amazing job capturing all of the special moments and details in our wedding with an articstic eye! Our friends and family are still raving about his work! He was also very accommodating and went above and beyond to film everything we asked for and more. Leading up to the wedding, he was always responsive immediately within the day if not hour and even after the wedding during the editing process he was like this! He has always been professional, polite, and friendly. He got along great with our photographer. He got our wedding video to us very quickly and edited everything beautifully while making sure to cleverly add in our special songs and props. If you are looking for someone professional, creative, friendly, accommodating, and affordable for your special occasions look no further!

Charles Koppelman video-taped the proceedings of a 2+day academic conference at UC Berkeley's Clark Kerr Center Auditorium. Even if the light level was inadequate and he had to capture the sound off the speakers, we set the agreement on his use of a single camera (decided by us), he did a wonderful job of capturing the proceedings. The quality of the images are wonderful, as was the sound. We are very pleased with the end product.

Sean of Kurtela Video Productions was great to work with for our May 18 wedding. Before the big day, I talked to Sean about what we were looking for and the type of shots we wanted; he listened, asked great questions, offered wonderful advice, and really got a feel for us as a couple. I felt really comfortable with him from the start. On the wedding day, he showed up on time and set-up really quickly. He captured so many wonderful memories that we didn't even know he was there for. He was very professional and accomodating. I was running late on make-up and asked him to come back a little later because I wanted my eye make-up to be done. He was quick to offer filming the groomsmen then and coming back. And he came back right on time! And the groomsmen were so happy to get the extra time with them in their sunglasses. He worked well with our photographer as well, which was extremely important to us. And captured unbelievable shots! The best part was that he got our trailer to us so fast that he beat the site coordinator from posting photos on Facebook! That is how quick he was. We received our final video way before his due date too. If you have the opportunity to hire Sean as your videographer for your special occasion, I would recommend him completely.

He made everyone feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera. The photographs are absolutely stunning in every way.

Ian was amazing! He was extremely responsive, easy to work with and very reliable. We gave him a pretty big task of shooting and editing a video with almost no prep time and he delivered early and everyone loved it! He's an end-to-end production house and also comes with all of his own equipment. I'd hire Ian again for sure!

Unfortunately I hired Clifton to commemorate my husband's funeral and repass. Although it was a difficult time he was attentive to my requests and I was pleased with the results. The video was professional, editing was seem less and additional footage tasteful. My only regret (which was my responsibility)is that I wish I had more of an idea of what possibilities and upgrades (like additional videographers) would have looked like. Had I realized, I would have had additional camera angles of such an honorable service.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
