I highly recommend Mike Garner for counseling, both pre-marital and otherwise. In our pre-marital counseling his goal was to not only guide us through the necessary conversations every couple should have before marrying, but to gently challenge us to address an issue that would have been disasterous for us in the future. This showed that he not only wanted us to have a nice wedding, but a long and happy marriage! We will be celebrating 20 years next February. :) I will forever be grateful for the extra care and effort he took with us. I can practically guarantee we wouldn't be where we are without him. If you are looking for someone who really cares and is not afraid to be honest with you, he's your guy!
Welcome to the Connect2 Marriage Counseling Institute. Do you often argue, don't talk, feel unheard, criticized, misunderstood, taken for granted, or are you dealing with an affair? Relationships should be the place we feel more secure. If we feel mistrusted, unheard, unseen or misunderstood, then we feel sad, hurt, and angry. Then couples argue, withdraw, and blame. If only my partner would change, then everything would be fine. Many couples go through this. But it doesn't have to be like this. You just want to feel better and be happy. Call or e-mail us to setup an appointment. Call us today. We return all phone calls and e-mails. When things are good at home, life is generally good, too. When things are not going well at home, you may be miserable. Plus, you don't want anyone to know. There's not much that is lonelier than feeling alone in your relationship. There is hope, and while you may be running short on it right now, we hold hope for you, until you are able to feel it again. Couples Counseling: Are you tired of arguing? I use the five layers of the self (koshas) according to yoga, as my model. Physical body, energy, mental-emotional, intuitive and bliss are what we are all made up of. I find this a very holistic approach that combines the transpersonal with somatic wisdom. I use an eclectic approach with unconditional positive regard as the base. I believe that clients have the wisdom to solve their own problems and I can assist them in their process by holding space with awareness. To that end, I might employ interventions from process therapy, gestalt, structural, strategic, mindfulness, solution-focused, dream interpretation, active imagination, visualization, expressive arts and positive therapy models. In the process, we might play with colors, movement, role-play, sand trays, meditations, visualizations, picture postcards, collages or just sit and talk, as the case may be.
I am a spiritual leader/teacher, a life architect, a leadership mentor, a relationship counselor, a professional mediator, a parenting coordinator and an author. I hold both a master's and doctorate in theological studies and religious theology with my minor in conflict resolution from Logos University in Jacksonville, Florida. I am an ongoing participant in the furthering education program of dispute resolution at The Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. I have also completed California State accredited courses in mediation, divorce mediation and parenting coordination from The Northern California Mediation Center in Marin County, California. I am also an active member of The American Counseling Association. Those are just my degrees; really, I am just a straightforward, mouthy, impatient, and politically incorrect South Jersey boy who wakes up every morning to make the individual life in transition, the couple standing at the crossroads, or the shared family in unchartered waters feel like they have a chance -- that life can be about rewriting history, not repaying the past. B does not always have to come after A; some days it is the difference between the decisions for where we want to be versus the discovery that life has made it obvious where we can no longer stay. I work to reconcile, readjust, reevaluate, disrupt, navigate, negotiate, dislodge and stretch what brings you to your most effective self. I help change the rules that can facilitate the kind of life you want to live. I do this for soccer moms, single dads, and everyday people in conflict as well as rock stars, a list of professionals, CEOs and small business owners. Most of all, no one will ever know whom I do this for because aside from the raw strategical wisdom I give also comes the discretion and anonymity that I give. I don't have to name-drop to get clients or sound impressive at parties. There are no pictures of famous clients on my walls. I mean, what is change anyway? Change is not hard; trying to sell nonsense is hard. There is no being good at change; there is only refusing to not be good at being stuck, idle or inferior. The only hypocrisy humans ever live is the desire for things greater than the changes we are willing to make to get them. It is not a matter of can I or can't I but only a matter of will I or won't I? It is about changing participation with what is outdated, expired or disruptive. It is about giving my heart to something rather than just giving away my power. That means there is no struggle with change; the only struggle is with accepting what I can no longer do the same way in the same moments. It is when my sentences can begin with "I" instead of "they and you." I am not here to fix you; you don't need fixing anyway. You only need to be in the driver's seat of your own freedom. I don't do charity. I do capability. I am not after people with needs; I am after people with nothing to lose. I fight for the people who will fight for something bigger than just themselves. I do not ask questions like "What do you need?" I ask the question "What can you do?" I do not care what your beliefs are; I only want to know what you are willing to do to go outside of what has always been in order to live what is waiting to be. I am simply the person who speaks to your life path right now. -- JK
