This is my second time hiring David. I had a very good experience working with him before, so I trust him and decided to contact him again. My new project was THE TOTAL GARAGE REMODELING (GARAGE CABINETRY). Project wasn’t easy because we had a limit of time + I wanted to reuse the old cabinets wood to save money. David helped me a lot he did such a big tough work, starting from buying needed things and finishing by cleaning the garage after a done work. There was a little problem working this time - scheduling the time. However, I guess this is because he’s hired by many people. I never get angry when he’s late, because it’s really worth to wait his come. If he comes, he will do the work, do it very good and will finish it! I’m very satisfied with a done work this time too! Thank you David very very much! Also, my first time hiring him was for a project INTERIOR DOOR INSTALLATION David: - made the appointment - discussed the price - cut the door - drilled the doorknob hole - installed the door handle & hinges from the old door into a new one - painted the door Everything was done in one day: quickly, responsibly and efficiently. Excellent work done!

The work far exceeded expectations! The work was done quickly, thoroughly and effectively. Though the time for the project exceeded the initial estimated time, they honored the initial quote for the work and left the interior and exterior workspaces in clean condition. Future plumbing projects are planned, and I will definitely use Aqua Stat for those.

Had my bathroom remodeled by DYI (semi-professional); resulted in unfinished grout, and shower door would not close/open properly. Bill was able to spot and explain the problems in a few minutes. He finished the uneven grout, and gave us a remedy for the shower door.

I hired Gusanito to install porcelain tiles in my bathroom. He was very prompt--being the first contractor to contact me on thumbtack--and quickly responded to my text messages whenever I had a question. He takes his time and is very detailed in his work. He is also willing to help you with other problems. For example, in addition to installing the tiles, I also wanted to change my sink faucet and shower handles. He agreed to do the extra work at a reasonable price. The tile installation went smoothly, however, we ran into plumbing issues which he couldn't solve. I'm giving him four stars because I hired him on thumbtack for tile installation services, not plumbing. Nonetheless, he agreed to bring his cousin (who is an experienced plumber) over the next day to change my sink faucet at no extra cost. The total work took about two full days to complete, but I'm sure it would have been less if we didn't run into the plumbing issues. So I recommend him but make sure you talk with him thoroughly about what you want to accomplish.

Brian did a office remodeling for me including demolition of a whole room, removing many built-in cabinets, rewiring, and finishing new walls. He mostly worked alone, but his work was meticulous. Brian is one of very very few contractors whom I can actually trust. (I have built a 8,000 s.f. house among other building projects, so I have experience with many contractors.) Brian will do what he promised, at the price he promised, within the time frame he promised. Highly recommended for all remodeling work. Thank you, Brian, for a job well done.

I wish I could give then more stars for their fabulous job. The project was bathroom remodeling. My husband and I are both working full time, we were a little concern about leaving the apartment unlock. But when we met Junio and his team, we realized how trustworthy they are. Everynight we came home to a nice organized construction work. I attached the picture, you would be the judge to see how nice, clean and amazing job they did in only 4 days.

It was our first experience hiring a general contractor to do a kitchen remodel and room extension. Rick made us feel very comfortable during the whole process and answered all of our questions. Responded promptly by email and by text messages. Rick gave a lot of personal attention to our needs, and even hired a maid service after the kitchen remodel was done. We love our kitchen and are very happy with the room extension!

We first met their team when a salesman cold-called us. It took us a while to make a decision about what we wanted to do, but once my wife and I decided to move forward, working with Shmuel and his team was excellent. I can't say enough good about them. The project involved removing a bathroom, adding a bathroom, removing and remodeling a kitchen, adding hardwood floors, adding a gas line, upgrading an electrical box, moving HVAC ducts, wiring and hanging a chandelier, tile for a fireplace and mantle, and painting. There were structural walls that needed to be modified. They promised to get the job done in six weeks, in time for an important family gathering we had planned. We were skeptical, but bet on them, and they came through. In any project of this size, there will be unforeseen issues that come up. In all of those cases, Shmuel was excellent to work with. Some examples are: - Once we saw the lighting in the new kitchen, we wanted an extra light over the sink. He tore-up some of his work and added it and charged us for the hardware only. - We wanted a cabinet added by our front door and another by our laundry room. He added it to the work without question, and charged only for the hardware. - We decided we wanted to replace the stair railing. He helped us find bids from railing experts, and charged us the bid without any contractor markup. The extra work disrupted his planned work schedule, but he worked around it to make sure we were still done on time. - The vent over the kitchen range appeared too low to us, even though it was within code. He replaced and installed the cabinet with something smaller. No charge. - With all the demolition, he accidentally lost our Nest thermostat. When this was realized, without any questions or me having to ask, he apologized and picked-up a new one, at his cost. Some other examples of the excellent service: - Shmuel and Shalhevet helped us pick paint colors and pick kitchen appliances and cabinet styles, traveling to a number of stores with us. My understanding is that most contractors would just tell you to pick something and leave you to figure out the details. - They allowed us to live in our home during construction. At the end of each day, they spent time blocking-off areas and moving equipment (as required by code) to make the site safe for our children. He could have easily just insisted we spend a month in a hotel. - All the little things. For example, we never discussed replacing the flooring HVAC vent covers; he bought beautiful new ones that matched the wood floors we chose. We never discussed replacing outlet faces, but he felt it wasn't right to repaint and leave the old worn outlet faces. They are highly recommended!

We called Lemon Remodeling on a kitchen renovation and the project went extremely well! The team did a fantastic job and we are very happy with the way everything turned out. Our project manager was extremely friendly, professional and communicated well. We talked to several different contractors before selecting them as we thought they offered the best product and were the most responsive to our inquiry.

I recently had my master bathroom completely remodeled. The materials are excellent and the job was basically done in 5 days. The bathroom was completely redone - vanity, shower, flooring & toilet. I absolutely love the completed bathroom. The men working were friendly and left the work area cleaned up each day. The job was completed on time and with no problems. I would highly recommend them for any remodel or renovation project. Joan, Pleasanton, CA

I was able to schedule estimates with 5 contractors for my bathroom remodel. Each definitely had their own approach with a few being extremely pushy trying to talk me into doing work I didn't want to do! I believe Green line was the 3rd appointment I had and Manuel Sr & his son Manuel Jr definitely stood out to my family and I. They listened to what we wanted, gave me a few options and honest recommendations (which actually involved less total work = less money). I really appreciated the honest no pressure approach. It was also very clear to me that they had a lot of experience because they were able to point out a few things that no other contractor brought to my attention. Service: I'd say the entire process was pretty seamless, Jr or Sr were always available through call or text, no issues with cleanliness or picking up materials. They use a progress payment system so we paid them as they completed certain phases of work which I really liked. They were able to recommend retailers for the finish materials which was very helpful. Work Quality: Craftsmanship excellent, tiles were set beautifully and look stunning. About half way through we decided to go with their recommendation of doing level 5 texture through the vanity area into the bathroom (which they gave a VERY good price for), this was a great suggestion as it really helps in bringing a cleaner modern look. Paint, vanity and fixture installation were all done very nicely. Over all very satisfied, we will be calling Green Line back to do the guest bath in a few months. Price: They were not the cheapest estimate I received. I decided to hire them because they felt trustworthy. Which is a hard thing to achieve after one meeting. However I am EXTREMELY pleased with the price I paid for the finished product. They explained to me in out initial meeting that this type of finish work requires a certain amount of money to do properly which I completely understand now. They were also not the most expensive which is surprising for the transformation they accomplished. Thanks guys! -Christina

I love my new kitchen that Emmery Construction and Renovation did! The job went smoothly, without any problems. It was finished under budget, under the time projected and they even had time to put in a new bathroom vanity, mirror and new light fixture in my guest toilet! I loved how John completes your job, before moving his crew onto someone else's. I had a bad experience with my last kitchen remodel with another contractor. On that previous remodel, the contractor was trying to juggle several jobs at once, and would constantly make excuses as to why he wasn't working on my job–very frustrating and it took weeks longer than he quoted me. This time, my experience was a dream come true! John even had a designer on his team, that took all of my ideas and turned them into a cohesive and beautifully finished project–better than I had ever dreamed it could be! It was a pleasure working with his whole team! I'll be calling Emmery Construction & Renovation again, as soon as I'm ready to redo my master bath! It was a GREAT EXPERIENCE!!!

He and his crew including subs, have been punctual, efficient, very neat and very pleasant. Their work quality has been outstanding. I have highly recommended Heberth to my neighbors and friend.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
