I've been working out with John for over 3 years, and he has transformed my body. He helped me lose about 13 pounds before my wedding. He's more than just a personal trainer - he's a life and health coach as well. I know if I have any questions about health or what I should be eating, I can always send him a note, and he'll respond. Every workout we do is always different. He keeps things interesting, and I always leave feeling good/sore. John is the best!

Debi has been my life coach since February 2010. Her work is amazing!! During these five years, she has enabled me to tap deeper and deeper into my natural wisdom. It has been powerful for me to have Debi as a witness to my transformation. She sees my life challenges clearly and provides feedback in a positive and supportive way. She is quick to point out my successes and shares them with me joyously and enthusiastically. Working with Debi is the best personal investment I have ever made. She is a trusted partner in my personal and spiritual growth!

I spoke with Velina on Skype about the challenges I'm dealing with in my life and she was really helpful. I highly recommend her to anyone having difficulties or needing a good coach in their life. She seems to know a lot and has a lot of experience helping people with all kinds of issues. For me, I really felt like she cared deeply for me and understood me like a close friend and yet is very professional. She is warm and kind. I'm so glad I found her. She helped me so much.

Let me begin by stating that working with Arya has been a phenomenal experience. I originally discovered him through Yelp one night when I was looking for nearby counselors. He's listed down as a life coach and counselor, but what really caught my eye was his 5.0/5.0 rating and number of reviews (40+ at the time). It's very uncommon for someone to have such a perfect rating alongside a large quantity of reviews. I thought something weird was going on so I decided to send in an application for an intake appointment. To be honest I had low expectations of our meeting. I've met with counselors in the past and they hadn't been super helpful to me. Not to discount their abilities, it just more or less felt they were reading off of a script of sorts or working with me from an emotional distance. Of course there must always be some professionalism in play, I don't expect them to suddenly become my best bud after a session. I just want some recognition that I'm a struggling human being on the same level they are versus a patient to dissect underneath a microscope. So color me surprised when Arya did not act like my past counselors! It genuinely feels like Arya will get in the dirty and grimy pits of your life and sit there alongside with you, yet still providing a personally-catered path to somewhere a little cleaner (more appropriate to label it as possessing more vitality, I don't know my audience so I am avoiding usage of that potentially confusing word). You're never forced to do something uncomfortable, but if you're willing to be scared of trying something new then he'll help you ease into it. He's also a pretty smart dude. He doesn't flaunt it whatsoever, it more so comes off from how knowledgeable and skilled he is in several varied areas. If you're an individual that thinks in a certain way and have trouble adapting your perspective then Arya is great for speaking in terms you will understand. There's no sense of condescension on his part, but rather he completely understands that we all operate in our own unique way. It's like if you're trying to express a certain idea in English to a guy that only speaks Spanish. Arya primarily speaks English but he's also a successful polyglot. I didn't know how much of a welcome blessing it was to finally have someone understand the place I operate from until I met him. This definitely accelerates the process of getting unstuck in certain old habits since he can recognize them and notify me of what's going in without too much confusion flying around. I haven't worked with him extensively on making myself a more desirable worker or starting up businesses so I can't speak from that standpoint. I have worked for several months now on learning how to enjoy life and myself on a deeper level. I had no clue I would be here the first time I met him. I urge you to try out an intake appointment with him. His online presence is decent but it doesn't even hold a candle to his physical presence. It may change your life in a similar way to how it's changing mine.

Working with Lucy Curran on my Vet Tech. resume and cover letter was an amazing experience. Previous to working with Lucy I thought I had a good resume and cover letter. Lucy’s changes to my resume and cover letter made them both look and sound amazing. Her knowledge of knowing how to convey a positive message to an employer made my resume and cover letter really stand out. My new resume is now tailored to fit my personality and skills. I am now proud to present my flawless resume and cover letter to any prospective employer. I am so happy with the help provided by Lucy that I would recommend her to anyone who needs to just start a new resume and cover letter, or to someone who thinks that their resume and cover letter may be good enough.

I highly recommend Dr Beth Milwid as a career coach. An experienced senior finance executive in the midst of a career transition, I approached Beth after being referred to her by well regarded leadership coaches in the Bay Area. I have appreciated Beth’s knowledge and experience not only of the job-search process, but also with the broader “career coaching” space. Beth provides an impactful blend of strategy and tactics. She applies real world experience and a talent for listening to guide a process that is specific to one’s goals while providing context from best-in-class resources. Beth provides exercises, articles, and online resources to help guide the process from self-assessment to executing networking and search strategies. She is quick to jump into the detail to support opportunities as they arise - rapidly turning around resume, cover-letter, and other communication edits. If you are in the midst of a job search or interested in more fundamental career coaching, I urge you to contact Beth to see what she can do for you.

Nicole played a big role in my career development. My issues have been trying to focus on what I want to do and how to do it, and working with Nicole on those issues put me on the right path for success. What I love about Nicole is that she forces you to see the big picture, ask yourself the hard (but necessary) questions, and then identify the steps to reach your goals. I look forward to using Nicole again when I need to navigate life and career changes, which I anticipate will reduce my fear of making those changes, knowing I have her in my back pocket.

The coaching process has helped me to learn about myself and what I need to do to succeed. Also, Emily held me accountable to myself and to her which caused me to actually get stuff done and make progress towards achieving my goals. Now, I have my own business, have won a huge international award, and feel confident in my direction. Thank you Emily!!

*How did Irina help you grow into a leadership position?* First and foremost- Irina took a chance on me when hiring me- Not only had I never really had a full sales role before, but I also was coming from a completely different industry. Irina believed in me and recognized my dedication, passion, and past experience. She taught me the steps I'd need to grow my network and close deals. I soaked everything up like a sponge and implemented what she taught me immediately, and it paid off. In less than 2 years, I went from a senior BDR to a Director of sales at a successful ad tech company (which had huge financial benefits too). She has continued to help push me to believe in myself and have confidence in my work for my next step. I don't know where I'd be without her today. *What kept you from growing into a leadership role before working with Irina?* My mindset has been my biggest detriment. Also, like many women, we don't want to step on people's toes, even if we know inside we can do it. I can easily convince myself out of anything, or find an excuse to think I'm not skilled enough. Irina has made me a confident leader and I look forward to continuing to grow with her help. *If you were to recommend Irina as a mentor/coach what would you say?* I'd say do it, what's holding you back? You are in good hands! When I first met Irina- I wondered, how does she do it? Always poised, beyond organized, well kept, executes on every action, is one of the most positive people I know. With Irina, you will get someone who will change your mindset to believe in yourself, someone who will give you the formula for success- all you have to do is commit to implementing it, and you will get someone who will give you honest and straight forward feedback. I'll never forget when she was my manager after one bad pitch, she asked, how do you think you did? I answered- poorly. She answered, you're correct, that was not great, and it was not your best work. After giving me the feedback to improve, she said I believe in you and know you will fix it for next time. And I did. I think that story showcases the type of mentor you will get- someone who makes you reflect, pushes you, and believes in you. She can do wonders in a short period of time. I've learned more in a week from her training than I have in total in the previous 7 years in the workforce.

      About

As a Life Coach I powerfully stand out because of my innate ability to empathize and deep listening skills. Working together we can breathe a bit of fresh air into life, revitalizing and reenergizing all that is. I have many tools in my tool box from my many years of psychology classes, my B.A. in psychology, and the Life Coach Certification from World School of Holistic Healing and Massage Therapy. I am enamored by anyone who takes the steps necessary to create a better, more satisfying life for themselves. Let's Do This!! I mindfully integrate Swedish, Deep Tissue, Craniosacral, Reflexology, Shiatsu, Lomi Lomi, and Vibrational Massage Therapy techniques to create a unique transformative approach to each individual's healing. I also work with the energetics of the tissues to create harmony and homeostasis in the body. Physical manipulation of the muscle works through muscle congestion, allowing it to relax and more easily communicate with the rest of your body. Emotional as well as physical traumas are stored in our tissues and require love and attention to return to optimal function. With my conscientious somatic approach coupled with verbalized guided meditations while on table I have had the opportunity to witness many beautiful cathartic releases. These modalities working in tandem allow those willing to enter into meditative states that encourage healing at a cellular level. Sometimes the quiet stillness that is permitted on the table (or in "massage-land" as I like to call it) is the only quiet stillness we have time to indulge in in our busy lives!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

      • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
      • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
      • Defining your career goals
      • Creating a plan for job searching
      • Improving networking strategies and skills
      • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
      • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
      • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

      Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

      • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
      • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
      • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
      • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
      • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
      • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
      • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

      What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
