Lisabeth helped me with my ACT writing skills and with the reading and science sections. We did 2 hour sessions. The quality of her work was great and she helped me a lot with the ACT and helped me calm down before my test. My experience with her was great and I will definitely contact her in the future.
Carl is an experienced tutor who provides more than just "homework help" or "test prep." He helped my son with valuable life lessons like organizing his notebook and assignments. He also instructed him to advocate for himself by encouraging him to speak to his teacher after school and to be more proactive about raising his hand in class. Carl was able to identify why my son was struggling, and it had nothing to do with actual understanding of the subject matter. Rather, it was inadequate teaching materials (handouts) and a less than optimal style of teaching. Once these problems were identified, we were able to come up with solutions that would help my son succeed in class. Most importantly, Carl is not just concerned with grades and test scores. His primary concern is that the student actually knows and understands the work. I would not hesitate to refer Carl to anyone needing a tutor for their child.
I have been learning so much from Lois regarding test strategies for the GRE. Her method is unlike any I have practiced and I actually feel I can tackle the GRE now!
Joyee is an exceptional standardized test tutor. I highly recommend him. I found Joyee after an exhaustive search for help with the PSAT/SAT/ACT for my son. My son's school recommended a large national test-prep company, but after investigating that option, we didn't think it was the right fit. My student already understands these tests and has some experience taking them; he needed a person to get him to the "next level" and not waste time going over basic review/prep. Joyee provides fast-paced and completely personalized instruction. He first diagnoses where a student is along the spectrum of readiness for these tests. He zones in on problem areas and has materials ready to strengthen these areas of weakness. My son has enjoyed working with Joyee and says their sessions have definitely increased his confidence for the upcoming tests. I appreciate so many things about having Joyee work with my son. Joyee is extremely intelligent, energetic, and dedicated; he knows what's he's doing and will provide concise, clear instruction; he has a good website where he exchanges files, keeps the tutoring materials organized, etc.; he doesn't waste time during online sessions (you will get your money's worth). I'd recommend Joyee for help with your student's test prep in any circumstances, but particularly if your child is scoring towards the top end of the scoring range and he/she wants that extra boost. Our family appreciates Joyee's assistance and feels it has been very beneficial to our son.
I had Bri as a math tutor for the ACT. She was funny, professional, and very knowledgeable. I wanted to get my score up 4 points, and with her help, I was able to on practice tests. I would highly recommend this service, especially Bri, if you're looking for any kind of tutoring--standardized test or school subject. Thank you, Bri!
Daniel is an interactive tutor who is very helpful with any calculus problems you have. He helped me study for my math test by going through problems step by step with me, which allowed me to understand the concepts at hand. He made sure that I actually understood the process by asking me questions, so it wasn’t only memorization but actual grasping of the way to solve problems. I definitely recommend Daniel to anyone who would like help with their calculus!
Jeff helped prep my extremely dyslexic daughter prep for a standardized pass/fail test. I was very doubtful she would be able to pass -- but thanks to Jeff, she did! Thanks, Jeff!!!!
needed prep for my final, I did well thanks to the tutoring
I enlisted the help of Arbor Tutors to help me with test prep for grad school. Oh man! I am SUPER happy I did that. I got accepted into all of my top choices (Columbia, Penn, Cornell and Duke).
Called Daniel to help me at the last minute get ready for a statistics test. He met me the next morning and really helped me understand some concepts I was struggling with, especially word problems and figuring out which equations should be used. He was great to work with and really knows his stuff! Highly recommend him for math tutoring!!
My daughter has been working with Reza on math for over a year and he has helped her keep a steady grade. I was impressed at how punctual he is and extremely reliable. He is willing to meet my schedule demands almost all the time and can work for however long we may need him. What stood out to me is how patient he is when teaching and will explain multiple times in whatever way suits my daughter. She needs a lot of written explanations and Reza goes out of his way to make sure she understands, teaching her in a specific way unique to her. He draws graphs and gives examples that relate to her everyday life and will go over each equation until she can do it on her own. He doesn't pressure her and gives her all the times she needs. Recently he has helped her in Science as well, she was struggling a lot with her homework and tests and he helped her bring up her grade quickly. He has greatly helped my daughter improve on her math and science skills and she is doing much better and no longer struggling in either class thanks to Reza. He is an excellent person and we as a family feel very comfortable with him teaching my daughter.
CML tutored our high school freshman this fall for about two months. He provided helpful advice on how to approach high school work (study skills, tackling big textbooks, time management) as well as specific, excellent feedback on essay writing and math, and AP test prep. He's very patient, approachable, and has a good sense of humor and he and my son have a great rapport. He was also very flexible and worked around our busy schedule. We highly recommend him.
Great teacher, very knowledgeable and professional. Esmeralda helped my daughters with understanding SAT test concept, time saving tips and strategies to raise their score. We are very pleased with her and look forward to continuing tutoring with her in the future. I highly recommend her.
Rachel is a fantastic and brilliant math tutor. I hadn't taken a math class in about 23 years and wanted to pass my placement exam out of intermediate algebra to go directly into statistics. I knew I could recall a lot of the concepts if I had a good guide to help me quickly get an understanding. We met at various libraries for our sessions depending on where I was working on those days and times. She was patient, quickly understood without completely disregarding my seemingly far fetched goals, and helped me get through any challenging areas in a way that made it very clear. She has a way of making math "fun and sweet" like I had never previously realized it could be/is. I had 3 sessions with her (2 hrs, 3 hrs, 2 hrs) over the course of one week and passed my test by that Friday. When I started in my statistics class, I recommended her to anyone that was anticipating having any trouble with the class. If I have any trouble with math classes in the future, I know exactly who to call; she is the best! I'm so grateful to Rachel for her support and encouragement.
Math tutoring for my son to prep for the SAT. Went great Mr. Reid helped my son feel more confident in math.
I'm seventeen years old and took the new 2016 SAT test for the first time. My score was significantly lower than my GPA would indicate. I had several offers from tutors to assist in improving my SAT score. After reading the reviews and talking with several people, I choose to work with Sarah. I have had multiple sessions with her this summer. I highly recommend Sarah to be your tutor. She has a very pleasant personality and always makes sure you understand the current concept before moving on to another. She is very understanding of your schedule and will do whatever she can to work with you. I am ending my sessions only because to my pleasant surprise I have been offered an athletic scholarship after my senior year that will accept my current gpa and current SAT as completely satisfactory.
Jenny is tutoring my son in math and biology. My son attends a college prep high school. She has been very flexible with the schedule and really wants him to "understand" the material. Although it has only been two sessions thus far my child is excited to learn and he understands the material. She arrives on time , confirms the day of and is very professional. So far we are happy with her service.
Cindy is an absolute visionary. I am a senior in high school, and I met Cindy a few months before I began this school year. My strengths academically are mainly in reading, writing, social studies, and philosophy, but Cindy has enhanced my knowledge and appreciation for mathematics, science, and my capabilities in problem solving as a whole. When I first met Cindy, I was in desperate need of a math tutor, but what I received was more than I could have ever imagined. Aside from her outstanding mathematical capabilities, Cindy has served as my mentor, ultimate problem solver, entrepreneurial guru, and ultimate inspiration throughout my college prep and application process. As a fellow performer, and actress, Cindy also has helped me explore my passion for theatre, and expand it to become a flourishing intrigue with anthropology, psychology, and motivational speaking. She is literally the reason that I am now travelling as a motivational speaker/ Body Positive facilitator to youth, ranging from middle school to high school. In offering her invaluable time, ambitious mindset, and incredibly compassionate demeanor, she has allowed me to find my true passions, and encourage others to do the same. Furthermore, Cindy is beyond this world amazing. Whether to call her an angel, an oracle, a goddess, a reincarnated Albert Einstein, or any other form of awe, I am not worthy to concretely say. However, I can attest that Cindy has absolutely changed my vision for myself and the world around me, my societal views and aspirations, as well as having enhanced my mathematical and test taking capabilities. Truly, Cindy is the most wonderful, kind, creative, talented, and intelligent essence, one could ever hope to meet or aspire to become.
Lola's SAT math prep tutoring was excellent. Her teaching style is patient, encouraging, insightful, and informative.
My son who is a high school senior needed someone to review his personal statement for his UC college applications. I requested a writing tutor and Victor Solis of Initia Test Prep responded within the hour! I reviewed his profile and his website and it seemed good. I was impressed of how Victor reviewed my son's essays in a short amount of time and gave important recommendations. He also answered any questions that I had about UC schools, admissions, etc. I highly recommend Victor Solis and Initia Test Prep.
After a couple less-than-stellar tutoring experiences via Thumbtack, I feel incredibly fortunate to have found Sol. My tutoring needs were somewhat unusual: after a 10-year hiatus, I needed to reacquaint myself with high school math in order to pass a placement test into a college-level calculus I course. Far easier said than done. Sol was up for the challenge, and knew just how to tackle it. After I had diligently dug out of my old textbooks from my parents' garage, Sol offered an anecdote about his dear friend and and former Cal-Tech college roommate when he was confronted with modern-day high school math. (Sol, you see, is not only an incredibly savvy tutoring professional, but also a retired JPL scientist--and a thoroughly interesting, thoughtful and personable man to boot.) As Sol's anecdote helped to illustrate, the scope of high school math has evolved in recent years, in ways even the former president of Hughes Aerospace, in a moment of complacency, would fail to appreciate. Pre-Calculus theses days focuses much more on the interpretation of graphs, and introduces concepts such as solving and plotting the inverse of linear and fractional equations, which wasn't even taught when I took the course circa 2000. At Sol's request, we set aside my old textbooks in favor of modern coursework that he provided. It was a few months later, at our last lesson, that I was able to truly appreciate how much Sol cares about his students. In his office, I happened to glance at a computer window where Sol had a folder with my name and files charting 'Goals', 'Progress' and 'Notes'. Sol's hard work and investment in my success paid off: on my placement test I scored a 98%--surpassing the score I had needed for calculus I and placing me into calculus II! As Sol predicted, the test had focused quite extensively on those more modern facets of pre-calculus that he had taught me. Now in calculus II, I feel utterly prepared, and only have Sol to thank. *Highly* recommended.
