We hired Supernova Films for our wedding videography, and they were amazing! They were there on time and stayed until the end, and the product was fantastic. Everyone who has seen the video has commented that it is the best wedding video they've ever seen, one even called it "The gold standard of wedding videos. Wow!" I can't agree more. Thank you so much! :)

I have worked with Brad Zangwill and Website Marketing Design with two of different start-up companies. In both cases he designed the websites and provided us with hosting and all of our technical support. Our most current website at www.InsuranceCommunityCenter.com is a very complex "community" website which he oversees and is constantly updating to make sure we use the most current systems. We would highly recommend Brad Zangwill

I hired Jami to film a surprise proposal--she didn't just sit back and film the event--she helped produce it. Jami got there early to help set up and stage everything, and took both video and photos. She sent us a beautifully edited video the very next day. I would recommend Jami for any event, and especially, for a surprise proposal!

This was a video shoot for 120 workout exercises on a Sunday. ROF was very good with communication, very prompt and did a great job with the filming. The videos were returned to be very quickly. Everything went much better than I even hoped. They did a great job with everything. I will definitely use them again!

One detail I really appreciated about working with Rand and his Creative Deviants team doesn't fit neatly into one category, and that was "peace of mind". I could tell from the final footage that he understood what we were looking for and took on that responsibility wholeheartedly, which when there are so many moving parts to the kind of filming we needed, that on-the-ground, in-the-moment mindfulness can make a positive impact on an assignment.

We decided to hire Steven Grossman to film our wedding at The Casino in San Clemente, CA on July 8, 2016 and we were so happy we did! We just wanted the raw footage without editing and it was very affordable. We had the hard drive within days of our wedding. Steve did an awesome job with capturing every little detail including all of our ceremony, the grand entrances, the speeches, cake cutting, bouquet and garter toss, tons of dancing, and more. The guests hardly knew he was there, but when they did, he was so kind and helpful. Even leading up to the wedding, Steve was very easy to communicate with, even though we never met before the wedding day! I would absolutely recommend Steve for anyone looking to get an unforgettable video of your big day! Thank you again!

We needed a videographer for filming a piece of a bigger video. We were on a tight budget and time frame. I looked on thumbtack and had 4 viable offers. Ashley seemed like the best choice. It was easy to communicate and work with Ashley. We provided the script and the rest was taken care of with very little effort or time on our part. I wish more of our projects and vendors were this easy to work with..

Erica and Laura filmed our live band performance in front of an unexpectedly big crowd of over a thousand. They were able to capture both the band and audience and hooked into the sound equipment to get a professional sound to the audio. We were thrilled with the video footage and very happy with their reasonable fees. They were a pleasure to work with!

My daughter's one request was to have her wedding video graphed. Brandon answered all my questions, sent me references and was professional. He arrived early, set up and did a tremendous job videoing the wedding and then sending the CD's. We never knew he was there. Guests didn't know either. He fit right in. We couldn't be more pleased.

Awesome!!! Great!!!!! Outstanding!!!! Daniella was so awesome. She gets an A+. 100% She was very good at communicating and very easy to work with. Not once was their ever a time where she didn't reply to my texts or phone calls. She was on time and she lives over an hour away and I'm sure their was traffic. Everybody loved her and she was so nice to everybody. Whenever me and my now wife turned or looked, she was there working and filming. She didn't miss a beat, literally. Very professional. We are very confident in her work and we are very confident that it will be a work of art. Daniella is not just a videographer, she is true artist and I can tell. We are glad she was a part of our special and unforgettable day. I would highly recommend her to any and everybody. Thank you so much Daniella. You are the best

Merve has been absolutely incredible to work with. Not only was she on time, professional, kind, and gracious during our entire actual filming process, she has done nothing short of incredible editing for our promo video. We are super picky, and were concerned about looking good on camera, but Merve knew exactly the lighting to use with us, and was super receptive to all of our requests. The video is amazing and we will absolutely be working with her for all of our videos moving forward. Totally exceeded all of my expectations.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Jeremy! He was extremely accommodating and flexible when it came to filming locations and times. He was extremely professional and also knew the right questions to help the subjects of our film express themselves. He did everything from filming and helping us with the script to editing the finished product, which we are extremely pleased with! Will definitely be working with him again!

Daniel and his team were Awesome to work with! His production budget was extremely manageable with clearly defined tasks and time frames. On filming day, with a minimum-sized crew they maximized all shooting time to capture footage that was assembled into a gorgeous video with music and additional animation footage that knocked our socks off! They made video production so easy, we would easily work with them again!

I would highly recommend these photographers. They were very organized and thought of details that I did not. I love every one of my wedding photos! They captured so many amazing moments that weren’t planned but were my favorite parts of such an important day. Like when my mom pretended she couldn’t button my dress, and when my husband slipped me away into the back room for a private dance. The best part of these moments was that I was completely unaware that I was being filmed. I’m not a person that likes to be in front of a camera. Somehow, they blended in and made my memories last forever.

I am a composer for film and television. I hired V&B Sound to re-outfit my Los Angeles-based studio space before beginning work on a feature film. The owner, Benji, was extremely thorough, knowledgable, and budget-conscious. He put together a full list of gear, sound-proofing materials, and everything I needed. He knows where to save and where to spend, and his experience as a professional musician gives him the expertise to clearly explain and justify his recommendations. What's more, he personally installed as much of the equipment as he was able, and also made sure the rest of it was properly done. I highly recommend Benji and V&B Sound and will be using them for all of my future gear and equipment purchases as well as anything else related to audio and installation.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
