"I added Stephen to our roster of professional art teachers last summer, and he taught our month long series of art classes for children at the Goodwin Gallery in Stockton in June, 2018. I found him to be reliable in every sense of the word. He takes seriously our mission of teaching the basics of art to children of various age levels. He came up with a series of lessons that was both challenging and fun and educational. He followed through on his projected curriculum, and gave the students a finished product (a carousel cartoon book) they could be proud of.
Stephen is in control of the classroom at all times. The students listen as he explains clearly what they will be doing, and he takes them step by step through the process. Since our classes are small, he is able to do a one on one mini session with each of the 10 to 12 students. Recently, in our October session, the students were working on an acrylic character study, using their imaginations to do a mini-painting in acrylic (8x10) with animated characters or animals. The children created some amazing images that I thought could not be improved upon. But then at the beginning of the next session, he worked on the value of value in art. He gave each child a suggestion on how to enhance his or her work, and the result was a sea change in the effectiveness of their efforts.
He is also willing to help others. Stephen shows up to be on hand when other instructors need help, he is there to assist in setting up the tables and art supplies, and he is very, very supportive of the members of our team. His attention to detail and the ability to follow through on all of our guidelines is comforting indeed to administrators and peers alike.
I am happy to recommend Stephen Coyle with the highest of recommendations.
