Introduction: I do bird grooming. I groom the nails, wings and beaks, and lightly bath all parrots, large and small. We weigh the birds whenever possible to keep track of how they are doing.
When there is a weight fluctuation, there is often a physical problem, and we will recommend an avian veterinarian for the bird's safety.
I have been grooming birds for over 30 years.
Here are testimonials that I received in my e-mail:
"I have had Thor for 21 years and have been taking him to be groomed and boarded with Karen since he was 6 months old. Her store is really like his second home! In the beginning, I took Thor to Karen's house, which at the time was where she did the grooming and boarding and now she is famous as "The Parrot Lady." Thor loves her and all the wonderful people she has on staff. Karen can really speak to parrots and will be a great choice for you to take your pet to!" - Jonney Scoggin, Hermosa Beach, CA
"I included a picture of Thor saying, "I love Karen!"
"Karen has been caring for my birds for at least 10 years. I have Karen groom my birds in my home since I have 7 birds and it is hard to transport them to Birds and More. Her loving and caring approach to each bird's personality, size, and any particular sensitivities, each has been always in consideration. In addition, Karen has helped me in times of need, day and night, with any ailments, scares or any other bird issues I encounter. Recently, one of my cockatiels, Cupcake, who is 9, was diagnosed with diabetes and kidney disease. This required injections of both an antibiotic and insulin to counteract and control the glucose level. Karen taught me, over the period of a week or so, to inject the bird and care for her condition. I now inject Cupcake twice each day with insulin. Thanks to Karen. I can do this.
I can cite many other instances when I have called Karen morning and night with questions, fears and advice on what I should do in one situation or another. Karen is smart, kind, loving, and I trust her completely." - Kathy Spencer, Member - South Bay Bird Society
"I have watched Karen Allen groom very awesome birds for several years, and I am never less than amazed at what she is able to do so easily and gracefully. Whether it is an Amazon, a cockatoo, a macaw, or a little lovebird or parakeet, she handles them lovingly and expertly. I've seen her groom their beaks and claws, clip their wings, put a wonderful oil on both, and give them a brief shower. No matter the type of bird, it is comforted and made to feel much better by the time it is back again safely in its cage or carrier. This is a very special lady, and the birds seem to know it." - Ardi Newton
"Karen and the crew at Birds & More are an invaluable resource for me! The majority of my babies have been hand raised by Karen, and we continue to visit Birds & More for food, toys, grooming, advice and more for the past 11+ years! The grooming service is impeccable; my babies are handled as if they were their own! Among the normal wing clipping, nail and beak shaping, looking for broken feathers, they weigh and give the babies once over each time and advise of anything unusually noticed that may need attention or a visit to the vet for further evaluation.
Karen's many years of experience has made her a true expert, and I don't trust anyone other than Birds & More to take care of my flock. Between Karen, her crew and me, we truly have a team approach to ensuring my babies are kept in the best of health. I am extremely grateful that I found Bird & More all of those years ago!" - Gloria Kiel
"Karen Allen is just simply the best when it comes to bird knowledge and grooming. She has been grooming my bird and giving me advice for over 15 years." - Leslie Bluestone, Los Angeles, Ca.

Karen was the person I turned to when my Amazon, Jeff, passed away. She showed compassion beyond my expectations. With her guidance I was introduced to Beaker, who was the pick of her current brood. Karen takes care of all Beaker's grooming with care and expert attention to his weight and well being.
She is a real credit to bird owners.
Hi Karen,
I just want to take a few minutes to say thank you for all that you have done for me and my birds. I live so far away here in Washington, but you are always available to help me with bird problems and advice. I don't know what I would do without you. Thank you for being able to supple quality bird supplies that I cannot find up here. Most of all, I want to thank you for the three amazing birds that I have obtained from you. They have enriched my life beyond words! You have a very special gift of knowing what bird child should be mine. From each one, I have learned so much on many levels. I have had many, many parrots over my years, but the ones I have gotten from you have carried the greatest of gifts for me. I can never thank you enough for your calm, caring strength and comforting words when I have lost one of my feathered kids. When I have been so devastated, your words were the ones that came through and helped me to face life without one of my beloved kids. I know that you will always be blessed for giving so many of the crippled and handicapped birds a chance to live life. I wish more people could see them as you do. You are a wonderful soul and of great benefit to all parrots and their owners. I am so glad that I came to know you.
Warmest regards,
Jan Butler
