Stephen helped me in identifying the correct techniques that will improve my health overall. Prior to hiring Stephen, I was doing on my own. But now, I learned how to do it "right" all the time. Stephen is really cool and great to work with. I am very impressed with his honesty, always arrives 5 mins earlier to the class. He trained me and my Wife with full focus and guidance. Stephen incorporated our needs, goals and home gym as part of his training. We both enjoyed working with Stephen. My wife and I are now full ready and motivated to continue on our own going forward. Thanks Stephen for all your help and patience in accommodating our challenging work schedule.

Having just arrived from a long flight from Australia, it didn’t take long for typical jet lag symptoms to kick in. I was feeling lethargic, light headed/dizzy, slightly confused and physically tense and achy. Jet lag be damned, Dan to the rescue! At a moment’s notice, Dan arranged a warm and comfortable setting and immediately tackled my off-centered situation with his hybrid approach to massage therapy. Because I was disoriented, it took me a bit to get out of my head - to stop intellectualizing – and just let go. Through Dan’s patience and expert guidance, especially around breathing and movement, I was soon on my way back to my center...to feeling whole again. From the patterns he intuitively detected throughout the session, Dan recommended specific poses, readings, practices and more for me to consider following up with. Some of them were spot on; I’ve already incorporated them into my routine! My interactive session with Dan was tremendously valuable. The integration of multiple disciplines of therapeutic techniques with breathing exercises and interactive movements adds up to a powerful healing experience. Plus the fact he’s a genuinely nice and caring guy. Insert what ails you here: __________ be damned. Then, call Dan.

Wellspace SF is a wonderful discovery! I was looking for help and guidance around nutrition and relationship to food. I am glad to have found this place. Their response to my initial request to find a nutritionist/food coach was very timely. The folks I communicated with were so professional and caring, and they matched me up perfectly with a nutritionist/food coach who has the perfect background and personality for my needs! I attribute this to careful listening and good questioning. I was able to make an appointment quickly, and we have already had an initial session, and I couldn't be more pleased!

My Experience working with Amanda on bettering and enhancing my path to vitality was absolutely incredible. She had amazing attention to detail and had me look into aspects of my life that I hadn’t considered to be something that would affect me. She is a brilliant coach and really motivated and inspired me. She helped me to see my best life and the possibilities and potential of myself. The steps and guidance she provided me with have given me tools that I can use throughout my daily life through it’s unpredictable and changing ways. I am always prepared to handle situations that I before would have stressed over or avoided due to anxiety. She also helped me with my gut health which was resulting in my skin having reactions that I just couldn’t get rid of. Everything she does is for you and she’s genuinely cares and wants to help you. Her coaching has changed my life and I highly recommend her. She is an absolute goddess and wonderful human being.

You gave me many parenting resources and I feel confident and happy as a mother to Rebecca. First I was skeptical about my hability to get thrue this period without medication, but your guidance made all the difference in my daugther's and my own wellbeing. Thank you, your support got me through a very difficult time.

I've been working with Arya for about 18 months and I could not be happier with my experience. In our sessions, we focus primarily on how to navigate potential career opportunities and how to understand behavioral patterns that may hinder personal and professional relationships. Without question, his coaching has completely changed the way I understand myself, my behaviors, and the way I hope to interact with the world. He has a pragmatic approach to meeting me where I am, whether that be practical tips to reduce anxiety at work or coping with uncertainty and risk about major life decisions. The sessions have become increasingly more insightful as he learns more and more about me. As others have mentioned, he's also extremely kind, open-hearted, and trained to tackle a spectrum of life's challenges. Far and away the best coach/therapist/spiritual advisor I have ever encountered.

I met Beth at Sonoma State University where I attended her career development course. I was looking for some guidance on how to advance/ launch a business idea that I had been thinking about in Branding & Web Design. Being a millennial and a brand new mom I was a little worried about wether or not I would receive the value I needed from Beth. Boy, was I wrong! Beth exceeded my expectations in more ways than one. Beth gave me multiple valuable tools to use to launch my business and help me be successful. During our coaching sessions there was NEVER a dull moment and I absolutely loved the humor Beth brought each time we met and was always sad when our time came to an end. One of my favorite things about working with Beth is she always showed me my strengths and what I had to offer other people. Working with her helped build my confidence and see myself for the business woman I always knew I was capable of being.

An unexpected death in the family upended a number of things in my life. I needed some guidance to get back on track to run my business and tackle the new personal challenges I was facing. I was working with another counselor for a few months but did not find much value in my sessions. My wife found Karim so I decided to try one session. Needless to say, I really enjoyed Karim's approach. Karim has acted like a guide to help me identify, process and work on my challenges. I enjoyed his help so much that I also paid to attend a couple of the workshops he hosts outside of regular hours from time to time. I highly recommend talking to Karim at least once and see how you feel. Chances are, you will want to work with him.

Triveni is one of the most complete yoga practices I have ever had the chance to study. I continue to learn something new every single day. Jessica and Stephane's unique experiences and understanding of the eight limbs of yoga have given me new insights into my own practice and helped me to refine not only my asana (physical) practice, but also ground me philosophically. They are teachers of teachers, and we are so lucky to have access to them, especially in a personalized environment. If you have the opportunity, I recommend one-on-one sessions with team Triveni! They'll be able to meet you where you're at in your practice, and provide guidance as you walk down your path of growth! Witness the change and integrate. Whether or not your just starting on your journey or are looking for an energetic charge to your life, try Triveni! - Bodhi

Serenity got my attention when I observed her working with another client at my gym. One of the things I most appreciated from Serenity is that when I first approached her about the possibility of personal training, she was not at all overwhelming as I have experienced with other prospective trainers. She was immediately in tune with my overall well-being and I sensed from the beginning that we could develop a collaborative relationship. My first-intuition into her character was that she truly connects with and cares about her clients. After working with Serenity for the last 5 months, I can attest that she is one of the most genuine and compassionate individuals I have met – coupled with being very competent, and passionate about her profession (which is much more expansive than just personal training.) Athletic for over 40 years, I first came to Serenity with acute and chronic injuries, and (despite the physical hindrances) an ambitious goal – to qualify for the Boston Marathon within the next few years. Serenity has devised a progressive plan for me, which she reviews on a weekly basis when we meet. With my input and her observance of my performance/abilities, she makes adjustments, keeps me steady, or moves me forward on her long-term plan. The last 10 mins. of my session are reserved for a deep tissue massage of an acute shoulder condition I had been suffering from for almost a year. I am so pleased to say that the combination of the weekly mini-massage and stretching/strengthening exercises Serenity has had me do for the past 5 months have drastically reduced my shoulder pain and I have regained most of the mobility. That said, Serenity will be the first to say “there’s still room for more improvement.” Additionally, Serenity continues to work with me to strengthen all muscle groups (including the easily overlooked but significant ones) to get my body better balanced in order to reduce the possibility of further injuries (past lower back and knee issues). Lately, Serenity has shared that I am ready for higher-level strengthening exercises and we are moving together towards the next phase of her long-term plan for me. Serenity is careful to inform me of which exercises I am ready to do on my own, and which ones I need to continue developing better-form under her direct guidance so that I may continue to progress prudently. I can feel myself getting stronger each month -- and with continued workout evolution, consistency and patience, I truly believe that Serenity will get me to my long-term goal of running the Boston Marathon sometime in the next several years!

I reached out to Timur at a time in my running career when I needed some guidance in reassessing my relationship with the sport. I had been training for the Olympic Trials and had experienced a particularly disappointing season, which had left me searching for a new approach. Timur was just what I was looking for. He was able to bring his background in therapy, his own experience as an elite athlete, and his martial arts techniques into our sessions. He created a safe space for self-discovery and growth. We delved into advanced body awareness, technical aspects of running, meditation, flow-state running, race planning, and even play. I walked away from our weekly sessions with tools for life, in addition to running. At the end of our time together, I had found the shift in my relationship to running that I had been seeking, thanks to Timur. I would recommend him to any runner, no matter what your experience level. He facilitates a relationship with running that is deep, meaningful, and sustainable. A rare find!

I have previously worked with 2 coaches with varying experiences. Stacey, however, belongs to the subset of well-equipped and extremely competent coaches. I have been working with Stacey in a weekly hour long session since October 2016. She truly raises the bar by combining career, well-being, and life coaching. Her holistic approach to coaching allows for her (and myself) to see the bigger picture as she helps me to chip away at my goals and aspirations. Another quality that makes her stand out is how she presents information to me in a way that allows me to come to a solution through my own efforts. Often times I find myself hearing her voice in my head and using her (sometimes unrelated) knowledge to find a solution to challenges I have building my business. The direction and feeling of "being on the right track" that I've gained from working with Stacey has been a blessing. I appreciate each and every coaching session. I know that I will carry her knowledge and wisdom with me throughout my journey. I would highly recommend!

When I left my last job I was really struggling to find a new path. Anyone who has been involved in an early-stage startup knows just how much stress and burnout can derail your ideas about what you want for your life and career. Having support, encouragement, and advice from another female professional was what I craved at that time in my life. Victoria was exactly what I was looking for. She provided me with the patient listening, advice, and sometimes commiserating, that I needed to move on and begin my next job hunt. I happily found an amazing new job at the beginning of last year where I've been able to set personal time boundaries and earn the respect of my superiors. I adore this woman. And I know you will too.

Wendy played a major role in how I was able to realign my life to be more purposeful and gain control of my future. Before I started my sessions with Wendy, I worked at a decent job with above average pay but extremely low job satisfaction in an industry I could care less about and a role I strongly disliked. I am sure this describes most of us! I knew I wasn't truly happy, and Wendy helped me take inventory of my life. She challenged me to think deeper about what kind of life I wanted going forward. With Wendy's help, great patience, and her asking me all the right questions, and through different assessments, I realized it was time (and felt ready) to switch careers, back to what I've always wanted to do. Once we figured that part out, she helped me with resume review, cover letter review, and interviewing techniques through mock interviews. Now I can say I am finally doing what I studied in college, which is what I've wanted all along! If you are looking for a coach or feel that something is off in your life then I would suggest reaching out to Wendy and starting the conversation to create meaningful change in your life.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

      What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

      • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
      • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
      • Defining your career goals
      • Creating a plan for job searching
      • Improving networking strategies and skills
      • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
      • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
      • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

      Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

      • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
      • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
      • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
      • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
      • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
      • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
      • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
