Gilbert was very prompt in showing up to the appointment, had a cordial and pleasant demeanor, and even was able to call-out the issue I was having with dry wood termites just from the description I provided in my initial request, site unseen. It seems that my issue still falls under the warranty of another exterminator that has checked my place before I had moved in, so I ultimately did not contract Gilbert's services. But Gilbert even walked me through the inspection report from the other exterminator and took the time to explain a few things regarding the report. All in all, a great experience. I will definitely consider Gilbert's services in the future if the need shall arise.

Joe provided thorough professional service, and showed a true understanding of the best way to handle my very complicated ant problem. We had them both inside and outside our home, in mass! We've tried for a year and nothing worked. When Joe came, after a thorough inspection, he knew that we must also have ants inside walls in pilot nests, as well as many locations on our property. If Joe had just treated the exterior, they would have been sealed inside the sprayed perimeter, and fled inward, really infiltrating my home. Instead, he located their internal nest sites, and treated with a product they walked through and carried back to their nests, delivering the pesticide back to the other ants. Its been 2 weeks, and every day dozens of new dead ants appear in the shower on the ledge, but at least they are dead. We rinse them away, just grateful that they aren't moving in and taking over our home. They only make it out to the ledge before they die. Joe is the only one who has been able to really kick our massive ant invasion! Thanks Joe! After 18 years of living in multiple properties in San Diego, which seems to be one huge ant hill, you are the only exterminator I'll ever call or recommend!

Larry Yarborough at Enviro- Tech Pest Control Service was the most informative honest professional I have ever had the pleasure to hire. He actually showed up when he said he would. He spent a lot of time checking out and taking care of everything and explaining everything. He even gave me a discount because I am a senior. I liked the fact that he is s veteran getting his own business going. He was very polite and did his job above and beyond. I hired him to return on a scheduled basis to keep my place free of, ants, spiders, rodents and anything he find that needs his service. I am 200% satisfied with him & his business.

Love working with Rat Pact - they were able to accommodate my schedule, educated me on what needed to be done to get rid of my rodent problem, gave me a great estimate, started the exclusion and set traps the very next day and have been back to check the traps they set. All of the Rat Pact guys were on-time, professional, courteous and hard working. I am confident that rodents won't be keeping me awake at night anymore... Thanks Rat Pact!

Chris was customer service from the beginning. I needed service the day we talked, and, while fully booked, he was able to make it to my house at the end of the day. Very professional and personable. Less than 24 hours since he exterminated, and I am seeing evidence that his service has been effective. Great price.

Mariners Pest Control was very prompt in quoting my job. I was unhappy with my previous Pest Control provider, and was looking to make a change. Mariners Pest Control provides a better service than those bigger companies by thoroughly inspecting and treating the outer perimeter of the property, and the technician also took the time to make sure everything was A-OK inside my home as well. We've had a problem with spiders over the last 6 months, and a member of my household formed an abscess from a spider bite that in my opinion would NOT have happened had I been with Mariners Pest Control – lesson learned. I'm so happy I found Mariners Pest Control. The customer service experience overall has been fantastic, and I feel they give a much more personal service than what I was receiving before with a larger company. I really feel like my spider problem is being taken seriously and handled appropriately now, along with preventing the usual spring and summer ant issues. Thank you Nathan and the Mariners Pest Control team!

They showed up when they said they would several days ago. The service tech answered questions I had & took the time to explain potential problems I wasn't even aware of. NEVER any pressure to do work that wasn't needed.

Mike Cassidy solved the rat problem that another exterminator could not resolve, even after a year of trying. Mike was creative, effective, polite, and always on time and thorough. I've already recommended Astro Termite and Pest Control to friends and colleagues, and I'll continue to mention them to anyone with a pest problem.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

    • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
      • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
    • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
      • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
    • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
      • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

    • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
      • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
    • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to get a pest inspection?

In general there is no cost for a pest inspection. Exterminators typically provide a free property or building inspection and then provide you with a written estimate outlining the necessary treatment and cost. The home visit allows the exterminator to assess the problem and let you know what your pest control cost will be if you contract with their services. You may need a termite inspection for real estate purposes. This will be a verified inspection showing that the house in question is termite-free (often done before a sale). The inspection may cost a flat rate, such as $125-$150, depending on house size.

It’s hard to predict pest control costs sight unseen due to the variety of factors that go into pest treatment. For example, a bedbug problem for one customer may be confined to one room and be easy to access and treat in one visit if the room is clear of clutter and the bedbugs have been caught early. In another home, a bedbug problem may also be confined to one room, but there’s a great deal of clutter, providing more hiding places for the bugs and requiring more spray and labor for the exterminator, as well as many pieces of large furniture in the room that need to sprayed. Depending on the maturity of the infestation, a bedbug problem may require multiple visits to entirely eliminate. This is why many companies provide a free inspection to determine pest control costs and provide you the most accurate quote possible.
