Introduction: I make it a practice to be fully engaged in everything I do. When I'm teaching I see it as a responsibility to bring out the very best in the student. I love seeing the self confidence and sense of achievement come out in the students as they build their skill levels in music.

Brett is very patient with his students. Encourage the kids to practice and makes it more fun for them learning every lesson. He is good with kids.

Brett taught my (then) 8-year-old to play the drum kit. Period! My son, now 9, can play a variety of rhythms combining hi-hat, snare, bass, toms and cymbals. He is proud of himself and enjoys it as a real skill that he earned. As a parent, that makes me as happy as I can be. I thank Brett for his skills both as a drummer, and as a teacher who cares. He has more patience and good nature than I can imagine, and that creates a space where my kid is learning music skills and is making drumming his own! We've been with Brett for about 1.5 years, and will continue on!

Brett is an excellent, responsible, detailed, and kind person. He has been a music instructor to both of my boys and he continues to shape their skills. It speaks volumes to say that both of my boys (Current ages are 9 and 14) have had him for three years as an instructor and they cannot imagine having someone else as an instructor. He has gone out of his way plenty of times to help my boys advance!!!

Firstly, Thumbtack was exceedingly easy to use and it helped me get just the service that I was looking for. Brett King Cosby is not only very talented, but also a kind person who is a delight to have as a teacher and guest in my home. I was very fortunate to find him. Brett is an experienced drummer who has played with many a well-known Bay Area musician and he continues to gig regularly. My 16 and 13 year old sons are already instrumentalists. (They play tenor/bari sax and trumpet respectively. My older boy also takes piano lessons.) Their choice of music is jazz and they both wanted to learn the drum kit in order to round out their instrument knowledge/experience. My boys do a combined lesson with him weekly. Brett comes to the house and always takes extra time with them. My sons are good at their own instruments and have worked with many teachers, so they know what they are looking for in a teacher and they know if an instructor really knows what s/he is doing. They have nothing but glowing comments about Brett's temperament, music knowledge, familiarity with local musicians, and teaching ability. The three of them have such a good time and my kids learn a lot from him. I catch myself racing home from work just so that I can get a chance to hear Brett teach--it is such a joy. When asked, my older son commented that Brett is well-organized and does not skip steps. Brett makes sure that students learn the fundamentals of playing in order to give novice drummers the foundation that they need. My son really appreciates this. I highly recommend Brett King Cosby for his kind temperament & teaching ability, music knowledge, and flexibility with lesson scheduling.

I was looking for drum instructor / artist who could prepare my son for the high school marching band as well as drum kit. My kid likes both. If your kid wants variety, rudiments and fun - Brett is the one for the job. In middle school, my son plays for the symphonic band. As a percussionist (there are many in middle school) the students rush in and grab a sheet of music and an instrument and that's that. Well, what about the quiet guy in the back who just wants to play drums? He is often the last one to get music. You will find him on the agogo, cabasa and guiro. (Those are cool! But - there aren't helpful when prepping for a marching band). Time to call in the pro! Brett. Brett is punctual, patient and philosophical with his teaching. He not only builds the skills, he build the confidence. He gives the musician in your house a voice. Brett not only instructs, he lives by example. He demonstrates and plays along and together I can them playing like mini percussion-only band. His rates are reasonable and his style is professional. He is the best choice in the Bay Area.
