Introduction: I am a singer with a love and appreciation for excellent teaching at a competitive price.
Students of all levels are welcome to study with me, from basic students who are learning fundamental concepts (posture and breathing) to more advanced students who are looking to improve their performances.
I also teach music fundamentals, including how to read music and basic music theory (through college level). Each lesson is tailored for individual needs.
I am also working as a music director at St. Theresa's School in Oakland, CA, where I lead the middle school choir.
Of interest to the more advanced, I am a student and proponent of the Swedish-Italian school of singing, a method of classical vocal training based on Italian 'Bel canto' singing originating with Manuel Garcia in the 19th century and influenced in the 20th by Joseph Hislop, Alan Lindquest and Jussi Bjoerling.

David has been instructing my 15 year old daughter in classical voice for the past month and we could not be more pleased. He is extremely knowledgeable, kind and inspiring. He challenges her to move beyond her comfort zone, but has a wonderful way of assuring her so that she doesn't lose confidence. I had no idea how "technical" singing is, until listening in on a lesson. After just a few sessions, we have already noticed improvement in my daughter's voice. I would highly recommend David to anyone who is interested in learning the art of classically trained voice.

I have had the incredible privilege of working with David Zelenka over the last 6 years or so. His musicianship is exceptional, his dedication to his work is admirable, and his attention to detail makes him the perfect teacher for young singers who are serious about learning how to sing. Such an inspiring singer as well! If you need a teacher, he's your man.

David has been such a great voice teacher! I came in as a beginner, and he took the time to evaluate what I could improve and learn. He was patient and kind, but always informative. He made singing easily understandable for someone new like me, and he was a joy to work with!
