I attended Cynthia Jolicoeur’s “Intro to Personal Defense Readiness” course in the Boston area over Labor Day week-end last year (9/4/16). I had no specific expectations other than to learn some new ideas and techniques. (I am a 5th degree black belt in the Ed Parker American Kenpo style, so brought that experience and mindset into the training.) I was quite pleased to receive such a thorough presentation on how the Blauer PDR system differs from martial arts training, along with a wealth of other information that is not typically provided in self-defense training, in particular the psychological and emotional components that accompany the physical aspect. Cynthia was extremely knowledgeable and well-versed in this material and answered most participant questions without referring to notes. The physical component was ably demonstrated by Cynthia and her “bad guy,” Dave Rood. All the participants had multiple opportunities to practice on them and on each other. The outdoor scenarios were excellent and provided realistic “hands on” experience of what to do (or not do) in the event of an unexpected attack. Cynthia’s own black belt karate experience is invaluable for helping participants who come from a martial arts background remember how the PDR system is different. Not that the martial arts experience is wrong, but that there are cases when it’s ineffective and doesn’t really prepare the martial artist mentally to respond appropriately to a sudden, violent attack. I highly recommend Cynthia’s course.
Wallace is awsome, he works with you at whatever level of fitness you are and can custom taylor your workout to whatever it is that you want to get out of it. I especially like the hands on, realistic one on one training that I have gotten. I highly recommend Wallace for whatever your training goals are.
Thomas is a phenomal trainer, I would rate my overall expierence with him as an 11/10. His multi-faceted training approach targets everything from nutrition, personalized training regamines, recovery and supplementation. My sessions have included strength and interval training as well as self defense martial arts. I work in law enforcement and found a necessity to upgrade my hand to hand techniques which Thomas as helped me greatly improve. After several sessions with Thomas I was able to learn his diverse background in the fitness realm, from high school athlete to professional mixed martial artist. His training sessions were very specific to my need, and extremely intense as well. Not only is he an excellent coach that talks the talk with an encyclopedia of knowledge, he walks the walk. It's nice to see a trainer who practices what they preach and puts in the work. If you want an awesome workout and great session check him out.
I have had the pleasure of training in the ancient art of Ninjitsu with 1 of the best, if not THE best, master & sensei Mark for the past 10 months or so, & I must say, not only have I learned a great deal, but I have become a better person as well for the strong, good-natured personalities that train here. Everyone is treated with the utmost respect, & is able to train at their speed. I highly recommend this dojo to anyone looking to learn a lot, & have a great time doing it.

While I only play in Mens league down in San Jose now, I consistently sit at the top of the league scoring and helped power our team to 2 CAHA state championships in the last 3 years. John, the owner of the gym, knows what it takes as an elite athlete. Having played in the NFL, he understands both the mental and physical components of your optimal self. The sessions are fun and energetic, John knows how to push people (in a good way) to make sure they reach their goals. Definitely recommend Pro-Fitness.
My three children have been training with Jay since they were five years old. Now that they are becoming teenagers, they look to him for physical training but also as a life coach. Jay teaches self discipline and respect as he coaches. My wife and I have been training with Jay for the last one year. We have trained with Jay for fitness, self defense, kickbox, and jujitsu. Since we enjoy working with him, we have also scheduled our own private family classes with him. I learn something new each class and have fun at the same time. I have lost over 40 pounds in the last one year.
Battle Control MMA has been my second home for over 8 years now. Master Greg Lara (Sir), his family and his students are the most inviting, determined and passionate people you will find devoting themselves to the martial arts. Even though everyone trains to the fullest, grinds to get better and tap out their opponents, his students -much like a reflection of his teachings- work together collaboratively with a competitive spirit rather than succumbing to ego and self-prestige. If a pair of students are sparing and one is caught with a clean technique, the one who got caught will openly and happily acknowledge their defeat and give his/her teammate much deserved props. Although Sir teaches classes focused primarily on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he is also very knowledge about striking, as he has a 3rd degree in Tae Kwon Do. Family atmosphere and accepting attitude of the team makes Battle Control the academy I keep coming back to year after year, recommending it to friends and family as often as I can, spreading the word about this special academy.
My experience with Gina through All Sport had been wonderful! I began sessions with Gina over a year ago as a self defense class, which has developed into a combination martial arts, self defense and overall body conditioning class. I am a Muay Thai instructor. I also have a black belt in karate, and I took many courses with SWAT units and bodyguard agencies. I am also a marathon runner and a triathlete. I want to see you accomplish more than you can on your own. It is difficult to find the time and motivation, so I will push you to accomplish your goals.
Stand out? I don't know. If you want me to teach you how to fight or help you to improve, then so be it. But if you want me to give you a sales pitch on how I stand out, I honestly don't know. I've never thought of it before until now, and I'm most likely not going to even after the end of this sentence.
There is no need to spend several years in a martial art to learn how to defend yourself. Strength, size and athleticism are not required. We have special programs to meet anyone's needs, whether you are in the military, a senior citizen, or in a dangerous job which requires self protection. We teach classes on a one-on-one basis, or in groups. Right now, we are having group classes once a week at the Cubberly Auditorium in Mountain View from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Having lived in Japan for 8 years does not make me a better instructor, in and of itself.
