KYM IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE FOR MY DOG AND I BOTH;SHE IS AWESOME! SHE KNOWS HER STUFF AND IS VERY KIND!Frida is my first dog & considered by some a "problem breed".I rescued her mother & siblings & found then all homes...except Frida, I chose her from the litter.Years before meeting Kym, I read up a bit. I did some things right for my puppy! Icrate trained her, and took her to puppy classes. She was easily potty trained, and trained not to bark, chew or nibble on fingers. She learned to sit, stay, fetch, and high five. She is very loyal& sweet and once scared off an intruder who came in through my kitchen window at night!!!! I thought everything was great. Frida always had a big yard, a bed inside, and always seemed happy. At about 6 years old, we moved to a smaller place. Frida had a dog run &we played often but @ 65 lbs, she needed to go on walks. I then realized what a naughty human I had been. Frida was totally unsocialized, she tugged on her leash, would nip if strangers tried to pet her, disliked children, and refused to come when I called her. She liked to chase motorcycles..skate boards, trucks, & cats.....oh my!I had inadvertently conditioned her to be a yard guard dog. ...with very poor social skills and bad manners. Total nightmare @ the park!I became so worried about her running off and her seemingly aggressive behavior, our walks became very stressful. I felt guilty and stressed!I tried a few trainers who suggested choke chains and various techniques until KYM RESCUED US!!!!! She convinced me to bring my 6 year old dog to puppy classes. I always say Kym trained me and my dog responded quickly. She didn't let me waste anymore time feeling worried our stressed. She was kind, patient, and well informed. It became a simple matter of me learning to understand my dogs needs and behavior. Frida comes when called, doesn't chase cars, and has even spent time at doggy day care with other dogs!!!!! She's even nice to the cable guy! Yet, I'm still confident Frida would stave off any intruders!Kym trained us both well!! I have my sweet best buddy back with more play options than ever! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND KYM FOR ANY DOGGY NEEDS YOU MAY HAVE!!!!

Kim and Lori were fantastic. Lori came out with Kim (the one who would be staying overnight) to meet my dogs. I was very impressed when they brought toys for them. Kim was great with my dogs as well as taking care of my house. I received daily texts and pictures of the dogs which relieved any anxiety I had about leaving the dogs. My vet is in Orange County but Lori recommended a vet close by which reassured me that if there happened to be an emergency everything would be handled. I also appreciate the fact that they are licensed and bonded, just another reassurance. I am very happy with the services Coco and Boo provided for my fur babies. Kim treated my dogs like they were her own. I could tell how much they liked her when she returned the house key once I got home. I will be using them again when I go out of town.

Just Four Paws watched my 7 year old cat for a few days when we went out of town. They did a great job! They came consistently at the same time everyday. Took pictures and wrote progress reports. We were very happy with them, and felt very comfortable with them caring for our cat while we were away. Lori was our cat sitters name, she went above and beyond.

If you and your pets are lucky enough to get Megan Grinpas as your pet sitter you will thank me. My dog Griffin is more happy to see Meg than me! She is so professional, kind, full of love and joy. I never worried about Griffin when I was gone. I knew he was happy. She sent me a picture and an update every day. We really miss her, but I know she will find grateful owners like me. You will never worry about your pets. She is amazing.

We have had Melinda care for our older and special needs dogs. We feel much more comfortable with her staying at our home so our dogs get undivided 24 hr care. Our dogs require medication on a regular basis and we can count on her to do this without any concern. As our oldest setter is 13, her day to day needs can change and Melinda is aware of this and will make sure she gets the needed help and attention. We would never be able to leave our dogs without this great care. Also, we have asked Melinda to come in the evenings to walk our younger dog. She will also come for a 2-3 hour pet sitting need. She keeps us informed about our dogs and sends pictures. She also does extra things like watering plants, dishes and things we don’t really expect but it sure is nice! I would recommend Melinda, you will have peace of mind when you are away.

We are so glad we picked Jenny as our dog pet sitter! She took care of our dog for 4 days while we were traveling. She was very attentive and kind with our boy and was always sending pictures and messages. Which helped us to see how he was doing. One thing that really amazed us is that our dog was trained in portuguese and Jenny learned somethings just so he could understand her better! Our dog was very happy under Jenny's care and that's the most important part for us. We sure recommend her services.

Sherri has been outstanding accommodating a dog sitter for me! I live in Garden Grove where it seems there is a lack of sitters in this area. Luckily Sherri has staff to cover this area! So far I've used her services 2-3 times and always been satisfied!

This was our first time hiring a cat sitter so my husband & I could go out of town for 2 nights. Kayla did a great job of feeding them, cleaning out their litter boxes , and even playing with one of them. (The other cat is too shy so he hid most of the time, but he was well-cared for.) I left her a list of instructions which she conscientiously followed. I appreciated that she took the time to try to bond with them & make them feel comfortable. She also texted me with a couple of questions & gave me an update on how they were doing. So the next time we go on vacation we will hire her again knowing that our cats will be in good hands.

At the last minute I required a sitter for my special needs senior dog Xena. Alicia came over and immediately I knew we had found the right fit. Xena requires lots of potty breaks with the use of a sling which can often scare people and Alicia was happy to take on the challenge. I would recommend her to anyone!

I heard about Desirable Family Pets from a lady at the dog park, so I felt like it was worth a try. My pug used to be a crazy ball of energy bouncing off walls and now he has learned to calm down enough to listen to what I am saying. I learned from Desirable Family Pets how to communicate with my pug what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior in a positive way. I would definitely recommend Desirable Family Pets to my friends.

I’m so glad I have found Trina to be my pet sitter. She is very reliable, trustworthy, and professional. I am a nurse and work 12 hour shifts 3 days a week so Trina comes to my house to take my little chihuahua potty, feed her, and keep her company. I know my little fur baby is in good hands while I am away and best of all, I know that I can trust Trina in my home. Not to mention her rates are amazing, especially when I leave on vacation! I always book her to spend the night at my house to pet sit and house sit! So awesome! I would recommend Trina to anyone. You won’t be disappointed!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
