Thomas did a great job capturing our wedding at Wine & Roses in Lodi! Very professional and friendly person. He was never in the way or distracting like I have seen with other wedding photographers and yet he was still able to take so many amazing and memorable photos. Thank you!

My husband and I got married on August 2nd, Anna and her husband Jonathan were our photographers. I can't say enough how much we appreciated them. They were so patient and understanding while dealing with a nervous bride. They came on time and prepared with many creative ideas. We got two photographers for the price of one. The photos that we received are all perfect. I highly recommend them for your special day.

I've hired many photographers in the past for various events such as wedding, corporate parties and other events and William J Simpson trumps all of them by far! I knew I would enjoy his artistic take on photography and I love his eye for great moments and angles. Who knew it would take a first birthday party to finally find the right photographer! :) He was very punctual, responded quickly to my emails, and such a joy to work with during the event. Professional and personal at the same time. You won't regret hiring him for your next project or event. I know I'll be coming back to him for future events!

Alena was the photographer for my wife and I's wedding this summer and we cannot say enough good things about the fantastic job she did! We decided to hire her based on the quality of the images we had seen and we were glad that the ones from our day matched up in terms of quality. Alena is very professional and was in communication with us through the entire process, we met to discuss the day and she was genuinely interested in the event and things were discussed in detail. Then a few weeks later we all met again at the venue so she could see it and get a feel for the location. This thoroughness was very much appreciated and put our mind at ease that the photography was in safe hands. On the day Alena was great, was there early and knew exactly what to do. We have really nice pictures of the preparation before the ceremony, guests arriving, the ceremony itself and the reception after. The pictures were natural and Alena got the most out of the location with some beautiful shots. We took some nice family photos after the ceremony and it was very relaxed as we weren't being bossed around like some photographers would do. Alena was so easy to work with and flexible to what my wife and I needed which is so important on a day like that. No stress or drama. A lot of our guest commented on the great job she was doing. Pictures were sent to us when promised, and the price was a great deal all things considered! Obviously Alena spent some time editing the pictures which is appreciated also and shows how seriously she takes things. Overall, very pleased with Alena. Great professional service, she is super talented and a very nice person to work with. What more can you ask for? Would recommend to all.

Talented, professional, and flexible. He took my graduations photos from UC Davis and met up with me in the area. He brought his equipment and implemented all my ideas. Overall, open-minded and great to work with. His pricing was cheaper than most photographers and photos were received sooner than I thought. I highly recommend.

Giving 5 Stars to Trendz Team Photography is not enough! Their work has been hands down the most amazing I've seen. As a little girl, you dream of your wedding and you can only hope to find a photographer that can capture those special moments. Working with Samantha and Bao made me forget about worries and realize this is the best day of my life. They went out of their way to work with us to create beautiful pictures for our wedding, and did it in a stress free way! We have found not only life time photographers for our family, but two life time friends. There's not enough words to say just how amazing Samantha and Bao are! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

We are so happy we booked Elegant Events Media for our wedding videography! They're an amazing value - I researched countless videographers, and they were the only ones I found who delivered top-notch quality at an affordable price. We were fortunate enough to have Darin as our main videographer, with Tommy as our 2nd shooter. They were both very friendly and professional, and we're thrilled with both their highlight & full-length videos. They managed to capture all the most important moments of our day, even with our wedding being quite unusual and blending two completely different cultural traditions. Brad, the owner/manager, was always very helpful and extremely prompt with communication. The only thing that surprised me was that I don't remember if we were ever asked what song(s) we wanted used in the video. It's possible that we were asked during our in-person meeting (5-6 months before the wedding) and perhaps we just said "Choose something for us." Anyway, Elegant Events team ended up choosing a lovely song, so all was fine. I was just surprised because our other vendors (DJ & photographer) each gave us a physical questionnaire to fill out, while Elegant Events only asked us about all our preferences verbally during our meeting. The only reason why I mention it is so that if any brides (or grooms) have particular songs or other things that you really do/don't want in your video, I'd recommend making sure Elegant Events knows about it ahead of time. Or if you don't want to handle the particulars, then just leave it in their hands, and I'm sure they'll do an amazing job!

Damian was such a pleasure to work with. They are professional and super open minded to different opinions. We wanted to capture the authentic, natural moments on our big day, and their team nicely delivered that. With 2 photographers and 2 videographers, Damian and his team edited our photos the way we wanted and made an awesome video that powerfully summarized the wedding. We would highly recommend working with Heart + Soul.

Ive worked as a video camera operator for Caravan Film crews several times now, it's always a pleasure to work with Teddy & his team. Events I've worked on with them include anything from filming golf tournaments to covering city projects. Caravan does a great job at putting the right team together according to the job at hand, always making sure to get full coverage of the event. Teddy & Caravan are always ahead of the curve when it comes to the equipment they use, only the best up to date gear for any setting. I've always enjoyed watching the videos edited from footage I've done. Caravan is doing big things for businesses/organizations around Sacramento, and I promise they will continue to do so.

I hired Kevin to be my videographer for my wedding day. He was very professional and did a great job working with my photographer to get the shots they both needed and what I had requested of them. I received the video in a very timely matter and I can't thank him enough. The wedding video was absolutely perfect and everyone who could not attend loved it. Top notch service and the video was perfect, I would recommend him to anyone looking for good quality service.

I just got our pictures back this morning, and they are amazing! She managed to capture just how happy and wonderful everything was. Ashley was super professional, and fun to work with. Normally I hate the way I look in pictures so hiring a photographer for my wedding was a really difficult decision, but she really made everything absolutely perfect. 11/10 would hire again!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
