Max and Qubex are so wonderful!
I am new to the area and have never needed data recovery before, so I was pretty clueless about what to do when my 5-year-old MacBook decided to give up on life. I was ironically just prepping for a long overdue backup at the very moment it crashed...never to power on again. (Totally my fault for not being better with backups - lesson learned.)
My first stop was the Apple Store, but while they said they could probably restore my computer (not my goal), they didn't give me good odds for recovering any of the data. The guy at Apple said that if the data was my priority, I should take the computer to a data recovery company, but that it can get expensive. Oh geez! I was not excited to proceed with this.
After stalling for a few days, I Googled local data recovery companies and stumbled upon Thumbtack. Within 10 minutes of submitting my request, I think I had heard back from at least 6 people! Everyone seemed very friendly and helpful, but Max's note stood out for some reason. I just got a good vibe! I called him, and immediately knew that I wanted to work with him. It was clear that he genuinely cared about my situation, and he is just a super nice guy.
After I dropped off my computer, Max very quickly did the diagnostic and contacted me with the good news - he could get my stuff! We discussed the cost, since of course it depends on the type of work required, and he was SO kind and reasonable. I gave him the green light to go ahead with the recovery, and it was done within a couple of days (and I had even told him I didn't need it right away). He kept me informed with texts throughout the process, which I greatly appreciated!
I now have all of my beautiful data on an external hard drive! Before I even took it home, he let me explore the drive contents on his own Apple computer (I will be accessing it from my new MacBook), and I could verify that everything was there and that I knew how to get to it.
I can't say enough good things about Max. I will absolutely go to Qubex immediately with any future tech issues, as they do much more than just data recovery.
