The technician did a great job cleaning our vents and dryer vent. He arrived on time, was professional and courteous, and very thorough in his work. I'm most impressed with the owner, Vachagan Gasparyan though. We didn't try to turn the heat on again until the night after cleaning because it had been so warm, but when we did, the furnace was not working. We contacted the company and Vach personally came out at 8 pm to attempt to fix the issue. He didn't have the parts he thought he needed, so he promised to come back the next day with them. After working on it some more, he realized the problem was bigger and called an HVAC company to asses and do the repairs. We ended up needing a new circuit board. This was likely a coincidence that it stopped when they were cleaned, but Vach still offered to pay for half the cost of repairing our furnace. We really appreciate him providing amazing customer service and would definitely recommend his company to others.

I would recommend them to anyone! His price was right in the middle of the other HVAC people. We installed a brand new central air system. I kept getting different hours of completion as well. He got it done quickly, and in that same day! I will not call anyone else now =)

Reliable HVAC contractors are hard to come by, which is why I'm so happy to have found Michael. He was super responsive and thorough, and had our unit back online the same day! I'm keeping his contact info handy for all my future HVAC needs. I highly recommend you stop reading reviews and just put Michael on your project!

Alex was exactly on time, and accommodated my scheduling need for an early meeting. He quickly diagnosed and repaired the problem for a very reasonable price. I have two residential AC units; he repaired and checked one, and checked the other carefully, finding no need for additional service on the 2nd. I am relieved to have found an experienced HVAC person whom I trust.

I must say, I never write reviews. However, these guys were outstanding!! I couldn't be happier with my decision to use topdawg. Eric and his team were easy to work with and took care of all my needs. They left my house cleaner (literally) than before they got here. I admire Eric's passion for his work and it shows with his service and attention to detail. His team was respectful, easy to talk to and had high spirits while doing my job; a considerably hard job (and HOT). Stop looking for HVAC services, this is the right choice.

I was amazed at the service I received from Prime. The fee quoted was, while not the least expensive, nevertheless extremely reasonable and inclusive of a trip charge and incidentals. Nathan was on time, knowledgeable, very polite, professional and responsive; answering a few related questions and providing both an emailed invoice for this service and a quote for possible future work. All in all, I could not be more pleased! Prime is now my plumbing / HVAC contractor of choice - I will recommend Prime to neighbors, friends and family!

Greg is the absolute best! He took the time to figure out the problem and explain it to me then sourced the parts - and when I was called back in to work - stayed to finish the repairs, check on my dog, locked the doors and left the house in perfect order! I can't say enough good things about him. I'll tell everybody I know if they need a plumber or HVAC expert - call Greg!

Out of 4 highly rated HVAC guys from Thumbtack who came to my house to give me an estimate, Will was the only person to actually get back to me. He was upfront about everything, was diligent with taking pictures and measurements and was knowledgeable about the process. Will and his workers showed up on time and were clean, polite and spoke perfect English. He was also able to provide insurance information very quickly when I requested it. The worksite was spotless when they left and they took pictures of all the hidden work done in our attic so we could see their finished work. No surprise costs at the end, and they finished faster than expected. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking to get HVAC work done.

I own a 20 year old furnace, that is now giving me problems. So, I thought of installing a new furnace. I contacted three nearest HVAC contractors for same. But, fees vary from contractor to contractor. Then my friend suggest me At Parker Service Company, a top rated company for certified furnace installation. I immediately gave them a call after which, they sent their expert technician who guided me through the various options that I had. He suggested me the best furnace I could buy according to the quality and the cost to fit into my budget. The installation was quick and quite reasonable too.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
