Introduction: Singing: it's all about removing tension as your natural voice is already perfect! Hi. My name is Amelia Petrie and I have 24 years of teaching experience, 34 of performing, a bachelor's and a master's degree in opera, and I currently perform in and around the Denver/Boulder corridor with my pop, folk, and jazz fusion duo called ambiance. Those are my credentials; but my talents as a singing teacher are as follows: I can find and root out anything that is holding your voice back. I will find it and I will train you to stop it. I firmly believe that there is nothing wrong with the natural voice. Everyone can sing, barring tone-deafness or some other physical issue. So why not sing the best you can? It is all about tension. You could listen to me yammer on all day about formants and laryngeal tilt (or more wisely, can suggest articles and books to read or just send you to Wikipedia for a biology lesson), but that does not teach you how to sing. I have repaired damaged voices carefully and lovingly since 1997 and know intimately how to rebuild a vocal foundation after I lost my voice twice due to bad teaching. I regained it by changing teachers, which is how I found this technique. Based on bel canto or speech-based singing, it is the oldest and the kindest to the body and the voice. Instead of having a sore throat afterwards, you will be invigorated and your body will be freely resonating and humming with sound. You'll never have a problem with singing loudly again, that is for sure! You will actually have to work on your quiet tones instead. As my teaching pedagogy is based on physiology and not going contrary to how the body and its muscles, bones or cartilage is naturally supposed to function, your voice will become the best it has ever been, and you will have the knowledge to root out and eradicate any troubles that may arise in the future, as every day has its own new tensions and issues that can reflect on the voice. Please contact me to schedule a lesson. My rate is $40 per hour. Lessons are held at Robb's Boulder Music, 2691 30th St. Boulder, CO 80301.
