Introduction: I am the nontraditional wedding minister. I am an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church. The landscape of American views on whether they see themselves as "religious" vs. "spiritual" is evolving. A recent article in The Atlantic (Jan. 14, 2014) states that "A fifth of Americans check 'none' on surveys of religious preference. Atheist pundits are quick to claim these gains as their own, but that is not the case -- nearly 70 percent of 'nones' report belief in God or a universal spirit and 37 percent describe themselves as 'spiritual but not religious.' This may or may not be the decline of 'religion,' but it is clearly also the story of the ascent of spirituality." My mission is to fill the gap that occurs between a traditional religious wedding service (usually performed by a minister from your home church or synagogue) and the completely secular service (usually performed by a judge or justice of the peace). Often, my service offerings can be filled simply by requesting a moment of silence for personal prayer or more extensively by combining two traditions (such as Christian and Jewish). Many traditional ministers will not vary their service and a judge is legally not allowed to mention any form of prayer. Although I am able to officiate weddings in all 50 states, my home base is Colorado. I reside in the south metro area of Denver but am willing to travel to suit the occasion. After all, Colorado is (in my humble opinion) one of the most beautiful places to live and vacation in. I will be delighted to work with you in composing an individualized service or fine tuning your ideas. After all, it's all about you!
