We offer sewing, embroidery and digitizing services, fabricating window treatments, bed linens, decorative pillows, cushions, etc., upholstery, and sewing lessons. It is my belief that we are drawn to things that we do well, and sewing happens to be my thing. Now combine that with my ability to interact with people; it makes for a winning combination. The business is further enhanced by the fact that my very talented husband does my installs and the upholstery (other than the sewing). I am Sew Sure!
Carol was a fantastic instructor. She was extremely patient and knowledgable. She had some great ideas as we brainstormed together. She was very helpful in my struggles with sewing zippers and pillowcases. Though I've been sewing for more than thirty years, she helped me get over some obstacles. She also taught me some tricks with my sewing machine. I highly recommend her for any sewing instruction or sewing project. Thank you Carol and thumbtack for finding her!!!!
Located at 11th and Speer in z|art dept, HISS Studio provides 1-hour classes for up to 3 students, and the rate is $18 per class. Classes are limited to an hour in duration and 3 students at a time to provide maximum opportunity for you to engage, learn, and retain the skills we'll address in each class. After teaching many students one-on-one and in class settings, we have found that students learn best in small, short classes that allow the student to focus on one particular topic or skill. When many topics are covered over a 2 or 3-hour course; often, only 30% of the content is retained. Additionally, we've found it a lot easier for students to find an hour of time for a class than lose an afternoon or entire evening with busy schedules. Don't you have a sewing machine, or don't want to lug yours around town? No sweat; we provide each student a basic machine to work with as part of our classes. Do you prefer to use your own machine? That's great, too. Bring it with you; we welcome all makes and models! Needles, threads and fabric scraps are provided for basic classes, intermediate and advanced classes or project classes will have a supply list for you to purchase. Here's just a few of our sewing classes: * pattern fitting * seams * hems * zippers * buttonholes * fasteners * dress forms * pockets * fabric knowledge * use of sewing tools * how to purchase a sewing machine * how to use your sewing machine * how to read and use patterns * pressing and other sewing techniques and much more Visit our website for a class listing and our calendar!
I am a designer and custom dressmaker, as well as a sewing educator. I have a B.A. in Clothing and Textiles, and have been working in this field for over 25 years. I equally enjoy sewing for clients and teaching sewing at all levels, from total beginners to those who want to hone their skills.
I found Julie on Thumbtack 2 years ago and have been taking private sewing lessons from her ever since. I never sewed in my life (except Barbie clothes by hand when I was little), and she has covered so much with me over the years. We even had a class on fabric! This year, I was able to complete 2 Queen Elsa Frozen dresses for my granddaughters because of her teaching. She is a phenomenal, friendly, and fun teacher. I love to laugh, and we have a great time during class.
I can't say enough good things about Charlotte's teaching skills. I'm a novice sewer and with Charlotte's expertise, I have now successfully made two dresses! She is thorough and incredibly patient with all my rudimentary questions. The lessons didn't stop after our class was up - she answered my questions via text and email to ensure that I was able to apply her teachings. Anyone wanting to learn how to sew should look no further and enlish Charlotte's services! Thank you Charlotte!
We will provide sewing lessons and basic sewing machine instruction and can help with patterns and cutting guides.
My handmade blanket is GORGEOUS!! Not only is it beautiful, but it is now a family heirloom which will be passed down to my future grandchildren!! Made with love couldn't be truer!!
I provide basic sewing lessons and also fashion design lessons which include preparing a fashion design portfolio. Students can participate in contests and fashion shows. As a practicing fiber artist, I also teach various fiber techniques: silk fusion, wool fusion, photo transfer, marbling, weaving and painting with dyes and various hand techniques: embroidery, trapunto and pulled thread. Again, students can participate in art contests and gallery shows if they choose. Since I was an art teacher for twenty-five years, I know the importance of tailoring all instruction to your specific need and learning style.
My daughter and I have had one lesson so far and we loved it. Katy has a very calm and patient personality and she is very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend her for sewing lessons for children or adults.
