Make sure they know all aspects of their trade. If they are only sanders they should know a bit a bout install. It goes hand in hand. There are many people out there that can do good work, but being able to do it consistently is a different story.

We are not just construction workers we are artist. This is hard work but it also takes a good eye to make it right.
