Three weeks before my wedding, my initial wedding videographer cancelled. My fiancé and I were so stressed out thinking we would never find a company to shoot our wedding, especially with a great price. One night I was browsing TheKnot.com and had come across a company named Our Wedding Video Guy. I was immediately interested after the great reviews I had read on multiple sites. I contacted Jeff (the owner) that night. He had contacted me the next day with a great price; I almost thought it was too good to be true. Jeff was so professional the three weeks prior to the wedding. He would respond almost instantly to any emails, texts, and phone calls. He made the beginning process such a breeze. The day of the wedding I had met Doug, which was our videographer. He was so polite and professional. The entire night he captured the perfect angle without prior visits to our venue. Finally, after watching our video, I can honestly say this company deserves every 5 star review that I saw. It took two weeks for us to see our video, which left me shocked, thinking it would take months. The price is INCREDIBLE, their service is impeccable, and the final product was outstanding. I would recommend Our Wedding Video Guy for anyone looking for a great crew to shoot any event. They have a great selection of unique packages that adhere to any event, large or small. I have never been so pleased with a company before!

What a terrific couple and organization! Bill and Jane as well as the rest of the team at Sky High Videography are possibly the best folks we hired from the Vail Valley during our wedding last summer ('14). They much exceeded our expectations and thrilled my wife and I with terrific final products. Not only was the package selection fairly simple, but they were very helpful in picking out exactly what would work for us without going over the budget. They were wonderful to our guests and seemed to blend in so much we didn't even realize we were being filmed. Most importantly, we were pretty satisfied with nearly every vendor we hired, but my wife and I would probably give most of them a grade of between 8-9 out of 10 on their final product or service. In this case the debate would be between a 9.5 and 10. Bill and Jane run a tight shop and accommodated our every need, even a schedule change due to weather. Their final products (3 different videos) were all extremely well done. "Universal Studios" well done and our favorite keepsakes from the entire wedding. In all honesty most people will put wedding videos a bit down the priority list, but from our experience it was the best thing we paid for during the wedding... so if you need to tighten a food budget, flower budget, or something else you'll never see again after your wedding weekend, do it, but figure out a way to include some wonderful wedding videos. And if you're having your wedding anywhere in the state of Colorado you're making a huge mistake to use anybody other than Sky High Videography. PS... pay the extra money for the drone. The shots its able to capture add something truly amazing to the final videos.

Andy took video of our wedding. He even worked around our photographers to take still-shots we didn't think to ask for. His experience and work ethic speak for themselves. We were a little skeptical about the low price, but I would recommend snagging Andy with SC Films at this reasonable price before he becomes popular and demand causes his rates to climb. We couldn't be happier with his services. We are so excited to see the final product but we know it will be amazing.

We hired Benson to meet with us before our wedding and plan out our video. I can’t express how thankful we are to have worked with someone who cared about our day as much as we did! Benson did a fantastic job of being responsive to our requests and emails while we worked with him. He was able to capture practically everything and anything. Looking at photos of our wedding is one thing, but being able to go back and re-live it is incredible, and Benson nailed it! Based on our experience, I would gladly recommend Media Mansion if you’re looking for a videographer.

Top Shots Media offers professionalism and a great value for our wedding videography and photo booth. I was very happy with the prompt response and detailed information I received. I really appreciate their patience while my fiance and I took time to decide with out any pressure. With our demanding work schedules and wedding planning, every time we had additional questions, they were very patient and took the time to explain in further detail to us. I highly recommend Top Shots Media for you your wedding or special event. Lee is a true professional, he will take the time to listen and help you and make your occasion the best day ever. Thank you, Serena & Joe

At the last minute my wife and I decided we wanted a videographer for our wedding. Jackson briefly coordinated with us before the wedding to make sure he got all of the shots we wanted. He arrived early, set up very discretely, filmed some amazing shots, and delivered the footage to us in a timely fashion. Jackson was great to work with, produced an amazing wedding video and highlight reel, and was a pleasure to work with. If I ever need a videographer again, I know who to call.

Satya Peram of Flatirons Films is AWESOME. He is everything you want in a video professional; talented; (a great shooter & editor), easygoing & flexible, professional, resourceful, insightful, incredibly efficient (his turnaround times are very impressive), and his services are exceptionally reasonably priced. I have a lot of experience with videographers and video professionals from NYC to LA, and Satya has all the talent & experience of a videographer from a big media city, but none of the ego or the HUGE dollar signs that typically come with that. His work is impeccable and his services are priced very affordably, making him a dream hire. I can't recommend him highly enough for any of your video needs--no matter how big or small. Satya and Flatirons Films are the real deal and you won't be disappointed with anything he produces.

We used Cam for our wedding videographer and he did an amazing job and captured the day perfectly. He was very easy to work with for the edits and the final result was breathtaking! Hire him and you won’t be disappointed.

We cannot recommend Laurel Wedding Films enough. There are two things we now share with friends getting married. 1) Find a videographer. 2) Make sure it’s Laurel! Laurel and her staff were the first to arrive and last to leave on our wedding day. They worked incredibly hard to document, not just the events of our day, but the emotions, beautiful small moments and details we had worked so hard to create. Laurel arranged the footage from our day, creating masterful films highlighting the gestures, reactions and scenes we will never forget. We find something new every time we watch our videos. We have watched our film countless times, and I imagine we will be doing so for the rest of our lives. So many times we have wanted to revisit our day. Thanks to Laurel’s art — we can. Laurel met with us early on to learn about our story and what we had in mind for our day. She really understood and took our vision to heart. She was so thorough. From finding our best light to cutting the footage together to create rhythm and energy, Laurel enabled the magic of our wedding day to live on. We couldn’t be more thankful and inspired!

I have never seen a more talented team of videographers. The videos they have done for me and my family are so gorgeous. They did my wedding video, and after a few years of knowing a lot of people who got married, and seeing a LOT of wedding videos, I have never seen one as well done as ours.

Oh, where to begin on this review for Ray? First off, what a great price! I am unemployed and we have a new baby so money was tight and he fit perfectly into our budget. What he offered for the price was so unrealistic we actually had to ask him if there was any fine print (hint - there wasn't). Second, the ability to get a hold of him in a timely manor was excellent. He was able to be reached by phone and email and it seems like every time we had to get a hold of him he got back to us before the end of the day. Third, the preview/interview he did for us was fantastic. The questions were fun and on topic, and if there was anything either of us didn't want to answer it was no big deal. I have yet to see my official wedding video since it's only been 5 days but I have no question in my mind that it will be simply wonderful. Fourth, we live in Loveland and it's quite a drive for Ray. However, he had no problem coming up here to meet with us for an interview before we hired him, for the wedding video interview, for the rehearsal dinner, and for the wedding. Just...amazing. Last, and most important, there were moments during the night when I noticed the camera, but about 90% of the time I had no idea where he was - but in a good way! If I looked out on the dance floor I could find him filming us or interviewing various people but he wasn't intrusive or annoying at all. I would recommend Vegas Bones Productions to any one looking for a very professional and great quality wedding video!

Bottom Line Up Front - Jeff did an outstanding job with our wedding video! After meeting with a few other videographers, we connected with Jeff in 2011 and he quickly set himself apart with his professionalism and friendly personality. Prior to the wedding, Jeff took the time to understand how we wanted everything to be documented and he catered to our every need. During the wedding, he was able to capture every moment perfectly and really connected with our guests. However, what stood out most to me about Jeff was his incredible customer service and willingness to go above and beyond his prescribed duties. Towards the end of our wedding reception, we lost power at our venue. At that point, Jeff stepped in with his camera lights to provide some much need lighting for our guests to find their belongings and get to their vehicles. My wife and I watch our wedding video on every anniversary and always comment on how Jeff perfectly captured our day. The quality and editing of the video was top notch. He did an outstanding job in every way. I highly recommend Jeff to anyone who is looking for high video quality and amazing customer service.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
