I have taken lessons from Michael for about a year for both jazz and classical guitar. Michael is very skilled in both genres and equally adept at teaching either. He also has a degree in pedagogy, he didn't just pick it up to pay the bills.

I hired Gary to play for a cabaret I was doing at the Stanley Hotel! It wasn't last minute but it was a short turn around. He was so professional and knocked it out of the park. From a performer standpoint he followed, took direction and was profecient in all styles of music. I have hired him to do another cabaret event this year and cannot wait to have a wonderful night of music!!

I took my 15 year old daughter in to Greg for her first recording experience. As Greg has said on his website, you need to "ask the right questions." We did not even know where to start. Greg and his awesome crew welcomed us in and over the course of a few months, my daughter has recorded four great songs with musicians that Greg provided, her songs have been mixed and mastered and they are amazing, Greg and his crew have filmed a video for one of the songs, and Greg has helped immensely with teaching us the ropes of marketing & the music business. If you want suits & ties, DO NOT go to KMG. This crew loves and lives music. If you want genuine people who will listen, embrace you like family, and work until all hours of the night, then call KMG. Their equipment and studios are top of the line, and with the expansion Greg has done, I have to think, KMG has BEST equipment between LA and Nashville. We have been extremely pleased with our time there, and with all of the talented people who work there. Frankly speaking, I have a lot of years in college & I can't do any of what Ryan can do to engineer a song at the soundboard. The instrumentation, computers, electronics, and sound quality is not something you get sitting listening to a professor. These guys have extraordinary talent, and it's all in one place at KMG. If you are considering recording, definitely give them a call.

I have taken both classical and blues guitar lessons from Rick for many moons. I like his style ... challenging but also laid back! If you are just starting to play, he is great with beginners! If you are looking to sharpen your existing skills, he's your man as well! You won't be disappointed!

We have had the pleasure of Lark Song's Jennifer (flute) and Rebecca (harp) play for several of our gallery events. They have also been featured musicians at various other local arts events that our artists have attended. Their renditions of light classical pieces, American, English and Irish traditional folk songs and songs from musical theater are always a delight to simply sit and listen to, or to have as unobtrusive background music which allows for conversation at intimate social events. We have found them reliable, easy to work with and their services reasonably priced and therefore wholeheartedly recommend them.

I only did one set of lessons with Ms. Vanessa, but she was fantastic. I totally would have returned for more, but I ended up moving out of state. I am in my mid-twenties, and have been trying to teach myself piano for several years. Lessons with Ms. Vanessa were the first ones I ever had and were a great investment. She is a positive and friendly teacher and knows a lot about music (obviously!). Highly recommend.

Vi Wickam is an exceptional and versatile musician. He is a rare musician who is equally at home in a tuxedo playing for an elite soiree or in blue jeans playing in a bluegrass jam. Last summer I contracted Vi Wickam to perform for 200 guests at the Opera Fort Collins "Songs in Summer" garden party at the Hixon home. As a strolling violinist he played everything from classical violin melodies to old time and Celtic fiddle tunes. Vi is also the founder and first violinist with the Fort Collins String Quartet. His traditional music includes guest appearance with bluegrass and old time music bands and recordings. He is also releasing a much anticipated solo CD this Spring! I highly recommend Vi The Fiddler for any event. He is reliable, courteous, and professional. Quality matters!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

        • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
        • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
        • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
