Mike is an amazing instructor. He teaches me songs I want to learn based on my skill level. This makes me really look forward to our lessons because I'm learning stuff I want to. I am an adult learning guitar and I have been given the same amount of encouragement that he would his other "younger" students :) I highly recommend the guitar lessons at Sollohub.

Have been taking guitar lessons with Sollohub School of Music for 2 years and the instructors are top notch. Their level of knowledge about music and the guitar are excellent. I recommend Sollohub to anyone who wants to learn to play the guitar.

I took voice lessons from Tracy and her teaching style, personal talent, and incredible professionalism helped me enormously. Tracy makes you believe in yourself. She takes raw talent (abilities) and helps you move to a higher level. Additionally, my children took piano lessons from her and two of them are now musicians and pursuing professional music careers. I have enormous respect and admiration for Tracy!

I studied with Karen before and had to stop for a while. When I decided to come back to voice lessons, I checked around, but realized that Karen's methods were the best. She makes sure that you understand what is happening with your voice and why. She is also very compassionate and intuitive, and understands that sometimes when I'm struggling with my voice, it's not because I am incapable, but that there could be something emotional behind it. Not only that, but taking lessons with Karen has improved my confidence and self esteem tremendously! I always leave her lessons feeling good about myself - even when she is tough on me, I know that she cares about not just my voice, but about me.

Josh has an incredibly helpful way to learn new commands over the voice. It's quite simple, yet when put into practice, very powerful! I would strongly recommend taking Josh up on his free 30 minute consult/lesson to see if he is a good fit for any genre of singer. The basis of what he is teaching is so powerful that it can be applied to any genre. Not to mention, Josh is eager to build a bridge from those fundamental and essential techniques into specific songs that a student would want to perform. Josh is not the least expensive vocal coach you will find either. But here is an example where you will get MORE than what you pay for. I would recommend taking the leap. You will not be disappointed. Josh was incredibly professional, easy to talk to, clear in his directions, instruction, and communication, prompt, eager to help, provides support outside of his lesson through his videos (which are worth studying again and again), and quick to get back to me through email and text. Make it happen. Reach out to Josh. You will not regret it. Thanks Josh. Great work. You've helped me a ton in such a short amount of time! -Grant

Joshua's teaching abilities were even more advanced than I had hoped. His knowledge of music instruction is incredible. Just as important, he was able to inspire my son and connect with him in a very warm and positive way. After 40 minutes, I could already hear the difference in my son's voice. We couldn't have asked for a better vocal instructor.

Kristin J.

Joshua is an extraordinary voice teacher. Working with him vastly increased my confidence in my vocal technique, ear training, sight reading, and ability to express the essence of a piece of music. I also learned a great deal from him about music theory and history. He is kind, patient, and a joy to study and make music with.

Patrice is a wonderful voice instructor. She uses tools such as scales and tongue twisters to help warm up the voice and teach students to listen to the sound quality of their voice and helps them to improve the quality so they can more effectively reach out to the audience. She is very knowledgeable in all different types of music and is always willing to try something a little different. She has a great background in music and she has actively lived a vocal life as a singer around the world which makes her expertise invaluable. We have seen great improvements in our daughter’s voice and performance skills since she started with Patrice in February. We noticed immediate change in vocal quality and now we see greater confidence and a willingness to reach further into the musical world and try pieces that would have previously been beyond her ability or willingness to try. We have been with two voice instructors previously and Patrice out shines them all.

Patrice is a delight. Her love of singing and music is inspiring. I felt no pressure to perform or reach a pre-set goal but to travel at my own pace. She took time to get to know me, my voice and musical preferences. I look forward to the lessons and releasing my own music.

I've been working with Justina Shandler for around three years now, and she is one of the strongest songwriters I have ever had the pleasure of listening to and working with. I have never known a musician who focuses so in depth on the lyrical content of theirs. Justina makes sure that every single word she puts into a song is as powerful as possible, with songs that I have seen people brought to tears by (myself included). As a teacher, Justina focuses directly on each student and creates an individual teaching method. She took me under her wing during my Freshman year at the University of Miami (I am now entering my senior year), and I can say with full confidence that I would not be the musician I am today without her guidance and support. She gives in-depth, concrete critiques that will take your writing to another level while also creating a warm and trusting environment. I have gone to her for musical advice as well as life advice and always left feeling like I gained something from it. Love this girl!

Justina is a consummate performer, and totally engaged with her audience. Her original songs fit right in with the covers she plays. (I've often been asked by a customer, "what artist does that song?" and the answer is often Justina!) She is a joy to work with and I highly recommend her.

Every moment I spend with Carol Joy I always walk away learning something new or I am gaining a deeper understanding on what I am preparing to perform next. Whether is it learning about a new muscle within the larynx, proper way to hold your head/posture to receive the breath, secrets to pronouncing vowels while singing for optimum sound, techniques on becoming the character, etc. Hands down, this woman knows her stuff! Her demeanor is strong and thoughtful as she guides you through the learning process. She takes the time and energy to make connections to her students on a deeper level with a catered discipline that meets their desires plus a little bit extra. However you have to do your part and practice at home in order to receive your highest level of success. HC, 29yrs

I came to Carol Joy Evans with a "mental block" about singing in general, but especially in front of another person. In addition, my voice was persistently hoarse due to tight, clenched muscles. All this was exacerbated by an absolute lack of understanding about how to use the voice to make music. Her knowledge, insight, patience, and encouragement guided me onto a path of recovery and discovery that is remarkable, considering where I started. Outside of private lessons, she offers a variety of formal and informal opportunities appropriate for singers of any level: master classes, group sings, recitals, and musical socials. Her newsletters promote individuals as well as musical events of general interest.

About

We offer voice lessons and vocal performance classes and the Ecstatic Choir. Michele Jennings is our voice teacher and performance coach. Michele has been teaching for more than 10 years and loves encouraging her students to express themselves through blues, R&B, jazz, folk, pop, funk, country, rock 'n roll, and more. Michele has a unique ability to identify and bring out the latent talents of new and inexperienced singers and gives them the confidence they need to express themselves in a style that is supportive as well as challenging. She is keenly aware that there is no "one-size-fits-all" approach and tailors her teaching methods to the needs of each student. She brings a caring and professional attitude to her leadership that fosters an assurance from which her students immediately benefit. She records portions of private voice lessons to mp3 or audio CD format for the students to use at home. Michele has directed Boulder's Ecstatic Choir for eight years. This is a community non-traditional choir, where all are welcome to join with no experience necessary. She has created and led vocal empowerment workshops for business leaders through the Boulder Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program and directed the singing program for children's Boulder Conservatory Summer Camp. She also enjoys mentoring teenage students in solo or group vocal technique and harmonies. Michele teaches vocal performance classes as well, where students learn to sing on stage into a microphone, direct a live band, and to connect with their audience. Classes focus on learning to do the following: - Honestly and authentically communicate yourself through your song's message - Confidently lead and communicate with the band, using language they understand - Understand and apply music theory and song structure - When under pressure, find your true presence - Use vocal technique effectively - Rehearse and use performance technique and stage presence to find power "I hold the radical assumption that if a person can talk, that person can learn to sing with ease, power and full control. Learning to sing in this way filters over into other aspects of our lives, and I find that students become more effective communicators and more confident individuals" - Michele Styles taught include jazz, pop, blues, rock, R&B, funk, motown, soul, oldies, disco, country, folk, and children's.

About

Singing: it's all about removing tension as your natural voice is already perfect! Hi. My name is Amelia Petrie and I have 24 years of teaching experience, 34 of performing, a bachelor's and a master's degree in opera, and I currently perform in and around the Denver/Boulder corridor with my pop, folk, and jazz fusion duo called ambiance. Those are my credentials; but my talents as a singing teacher are as follows: I can find and root out anything that is holding your voice back. I will find it and I will train you to stop it. I firmly believe that there is nothing wrong with the natural voice. Everyone can sing, barring tone-deafness or some other physical issue. So why not sing the best you can? It is all about tension. You could listen to me yammer on all day about formants and laryngeal tilt (or more wisely, can suggest articles and books to read or just send you to Wikipedia for a biology lesson), but that does not teach you how to sing. I have repaired damaged voices carefully and lovingly since 1997 and know intimately how to rebuild a vocal foundation after I lost my voice twice due to bad teaching. I regained it by changing teachers, which is how I found this technique. Based on bel canto or speech-based singing, it is the oldest and the kindest to the body and the voice. Instead of having a sore throat afterwards, you will be invigorated and your body will be freely resonating and humming with sound. You'll never have a problem with singing loudly again, that is for sure! You will actually have to work on your quiet tones instead. As my teaching pedagogy is based on physiology and not going contrary to how the body and its muscles, bones or cartilage is naturally supposed to function, your voice will become the best it has ever been, and you will have the knowledge to root out and eradicate any troubles that may arise in the future, as every day has its own new tensions and issues that can reflect on the voice. Please contact me to schedule a lesson. My rate is $40 per hour. Lessons are held at Robb's Boulder Music, 2691 30th St. Boulder, CO 80301.

About

I have my B.S. in music education and taught in public school for 2 years before I decided to be a stay-at-home mom. Music is a lifelong skill that promotes advanced learning across all subjects and encourages self-expression and self-discipline. Lessons are a great activity for summer! I currently offer piano lessons in my home (pet and smoke free) to kids (over five) and adults and beginner and intermediate levels. I also offer voice lessons to over eight for all levels. Please contact me for availability and pricing.

About

I have 3 programs - traditional private piano lessons (ages 6 1/2 and up), Let's Play Music (ages 4-6) and Sound Beginnings (ages 2-4) Let's Play Music is a 3-year music theory course for starting ages 4-6, that emphasizes total musicianship through piano playing, singing, classical music, note reading, and ear training, and that's accomplished through play! Let's Play Music is based on the philosophies of Kodaly, Dalcroze and Orff. Students learn to read rhythms by saying bug notes (four 16th notes is "cat-er-pil-lar"), learn chord progressions through colors (I is a red chord, IV is a blue chord, V is a yellow chord) and much more. They start on the autoharp and bell set for their 1st year and transfer the skills they learned to the piano on the 2nd and 3rd year. They learn advanced theory skills while also developing their ear skills. By the end of the program, the students compose their own song and play it at the recital. Let's Play Music is a great program both for students who want to go on and study classical music and those who want to play popular music since it teaches the necessary skills for both. Ear training, composing, transposing, and an understanding of chords are very important skills for the contemporary 21st-century musician that are often neglected in traditional piano lessons. These are huge focuses in Let's Play Music and in my private piano lessons as well.
