"Being the first time I’ve ever tried to interview and find a piano instructor, I really had no idea how to go about it or even to a large degree, what I wanted to accomplish from lessons other than “to get better” and further my enjoyment of music.
At this point, I have been quite pleasantly surprised by the approach that Bryan has taken with me. He has really listened to what I’ve tried to articulate and adopted an approach that I am enjoying. He has been patient, encouraging and pushing in directions that I hadn’t expected but am very much enjoying. All the lessons I had as a child and early teenager seemed to be about hitting the right notes at the (roughly) right time. Bryan certainly gives excellent tips and examples of doing that, but has already taken me to a new level of discussion about performance and arm/finger posture to get more life out of the same suite of notes. I have enjoyed the discussion about shifts in dynamics and timing to get more emotion and variation out of the printed notes.
While Bryan is obviously a quite accomplished and talented musician, he has been making me feel quite comfortable as he adapts to meet my level of accomplishment.
Thank you, Bryan!!
