I've had the pleasure of working together with Matt Pangman on numerous assignments over the span of the past two years. As a freelance writer and editor, finding immensely creative, yet steadfast and reliable photographers to collaborate with is easier said than done. However, I have found exactly that in Matt. As a photographer and videographer, Matt has an undeniable eye and vision—his creativity is unparalleled. But I believe it’s his work ethic, undying commitment to the art, and reliability that truly set him apart from the pack. No matter the project thrown at him, Matt is more than capable. Whether you’re collaborating on a project with built-in, specific guidelines, or are working on an ambiguous project with zero limitations on creative freedom, Matt excels. Matt is also gregarious people-person—he always considers the needs of clients during shoots, and executes projects with a level of unwavering professionalism and dedication. Matt is my go-to photographer for projects of all sizes.

Amber has given me a ton of inspiration on where to take my memoir. She is honest about what works and what doesn't, without being pushy. Her edits were spot on, but the best part about working with her is her infectious energy, which is evident both when meeting her in person and through her written feedback. With her excitement about my work, she has renewed my own desire to push myself as a writer.

Jody is a great tutor. She helped my son with his reading, spelling, writing, and math. My son's teacher suggested Jody and her tutoring services. His teacher said Jody was excellent at filling in the missing pieces for our son. The reading intervention program Jody used helped improve our son's grades by helping him find certain letter sounds and how to say them. Jody taught him over 25 spelling rules that he still uses. Vocabulary was another important subject she helped our son with. Jody later helped our son become a better writer by showing him how to write sentences, paragraphs, and reports. Math was the other subject our son needed help with. The level Jody put him in was comfortable and he knew the steps. The steps to the math became harder but Jody took time to explain the steps so my son understood it. Call Jody to help you! She is friendly, patient, smart, and easy to talk to.

I had the chance to work with Michael on a number of occasions, and he is always spot-on with great strategy, content and ideas. I especially think he is a gifted writer and problem-solver, and is probably one of the more resourceful people I've worked with in recent memory. He's very well-versed for digital engagements, including copywriting, content strategy, and certain types of transaction content and micro-copy. My only criticism is that he no longer lives close to me, so I can't meet with him face to face. But he's wonderful to work with regardless.

Incredibly informative and helpful. Margaret provided excellent feedback and was constructive in her editing. My essay was much more cohesive because of her editing, but still allowed my own voice to show through. I would highly recommend her for any writing or editing assistance!

Laura has helped me twice with reviewing and editing my resume and preparing for job interviews, and both times I have been extremely satisfied with her work. Not only did she offer assistance with formatting and general editing, but she provided extremely detailed critiques of my resume and cover letters which she helped me strategically gear towards specific jobs. Prior to working with Laura, my resume was formatted much like a cv - it was lengthy and focused on research and academics. After graduating with my MPH, I realized I wanted to move away from academia, but stay in the Public Health field. Laura helped me by providing fast and detailed feedback encouraging me to focus on measurable accomplishments, leadership and management experience, innovative projects, and benefit to my company (e.g. grant awards). With Laura's help I was able to provide a lot of background information about myself and my professional experience while at the same time highlighting aspects of my career that were unique and made me stand out as a candidate to potential employers. Once my resume was complete she also conducted several mock interviews with me so that I felt more comfortable with standard interview questions as well as questions that were specific to my areas of interest (e.g. public health, management, health care, etc.). I was extremely pleased with my experience, and would encourage anyone who is interested in furthering their career to work with Laura. After making her suggested revisions to my resume, I was asked to interview for every position I applied for and accepted a position as a Health Programs Manager at one of the largest accountable care organizations in Colorado.

How do we offer such low prices? We are commission based only; the outfitter pays the commission from his normal price he would charge any hunter. This saves him the time of receiving 15 phone calls for possibly making 1 booking. Also his possibilities of fully booking are slim. Instead we take all the calls and find a hunter/hunt match in our 800 hunts, on 200 locations in 15 states and Canada. This way you get the hunt you want at the price you want. Then the outfitter is also pleased because he will fill his hunts this year, along with building his return clientele base for next year.

That's the best way to pick your writer/editor -- see firsthand what they do and how they do it.** I provide writing, editing, and writing instruction services to businesses, universities, government agencies, and non-profits nationwide. I strongly believe in my clients in the work that they do. I 'm a passionate writer who believes everyone should be heard and the fact that it may help another person or encourage them is excellent and I honor the fact that writers do help people more than they think Writers write what they think, how they feel, what they see or have experienced. At the end of the day they are excellent writers they believe and what they write in the work they put into it and I believe in their work.

I am creative and detail-oriented. Plus, I am a good editor, too, so my copy is always clean. I am a hard worker and always put my best effort into each project I work on.

As I edit your work or write for you, I will listen and follow your needs and objectives. I am a published author/freelance writer who can polish the details of your work and line them up under your overall theme and goal. I look forward to assisting you and helping your project shine.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.
