Darcie Rodden says, "I had my entire exterior of my house painted. The painters did an awesome job. They took the time to remove the bad siding and replace with new siding without replacing the entire siding which I could not afford. They cleaned up the mess and took all of the trash with them. Even came back to address some areas that they were not told to do in advance. Seems that there is a lack of communication between the estimator and the painters. I had to remind them what I talked about with the estimator. When I did a final walk through with the estimator's assistant, he pointed out areas that should have been taken care of, the painters didn't know. I understand that Monarch is busy, but sometimes they did not get back to me in a timely manner. I did get some awesome advice on paint colors...since I was stuck. The colors look great. On a down note, the gutter guy left all kinds of metal shards around my house. I am searching for more. One piece went halfway through my tennis shoe. Which I told Monarch and there was not response to that issue from them. Also, I didnt receive an email that they would be over one morning and was not at all prepared for the visit. I had an early zoom meeting with my company, luckily they were late getting started. I told Monarch about that and there was not response from them.Overall I am very happy with the way my house was taken care of. Monarch needs to work a bit on communicating with the workers and the person that hired them.I would hire them again. I have recommended them to several people already. Great job overall.*********Update. The Manager took the time to call me and go over my concerns. They explained that they have addressed my concerns with the staff. Very impressed that I received an actual phone call."See more

Becky Yang says, "This is not my first time hiring Francisco and his team to help with big projects around the house. Some areas of my soffit and fascia were rotting and needed to be replaced. They did an incredible job not only replacing the damaged pieces but also prepping and painting the entire exterior of the house, including the soffit, fascia, trim, siding, and doors. I appreciate their professionalism and thoroughness. They always follow through and ensure a quality job every time, even conducting a walk-through after the project was completed to ensure satisfaction. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of a home painting project!"See more

Jennifer Heuer says, "Where do I start?! I have owned my little red brick house for 23 years and I have always hated the red brick. My dream was to have a white brick house with black trim and cedar doors, shutters, etc. I was discouraged by everyone around me not to paint the brick because it will peel and crack and not look good long term. I was hesitant for the last few years to pull the trigger. But then I met Christian!!! He explained to me that "you don't paint brick" and explained the process his company uses. We even walked my street to look at other homes with painted brick and he pointed things out and explained things to me. After that, I was sold and excited!Christian helped me pick the paint colors and gave great suggestions. They also re-stained my garage doors and shutters, and painted my shed to match my house. The price was very reasonable and my job was scheduled within a couple of weeks. The day of my painting, Christian did a final walk through with me and his crew chief, Baldamar, so everything would be perfect!Baldamar and his crew did the most amazing job! Baldamar was extremely pleasant to work with. They were very efficient and very meticulous! When they were done, Baldamar did a walk through with me. There was one area I originally told them not to paint black, but when I saw everything I changed my mind, and within minutes it was painted with no hesitation (even though I am sure they all wanted to go home!).I am so happy and in love with the new look of my home! It is everything I have been dreaming of for my forever home! The customer service was excellent, I am beyond satisfied and I would highly recommend Incline Paint Co and team to anyone! THANK YOU!!!!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

You can expect to pay around $2,535 to get the outside of your house painted, though this cost will increase with larger house sizes (and decrease with smaller ones). The average hourly rate for exterior painters is $45 and ranges from $25-$75.

Wood, brick, stucco, vinyl, aluminum and stone each have their own set of demands. Contact exterior painters near you to get a detailed cost estimate for your house.

Your house’s exterior will likely need two coats of paint. With two coats, your house will look more even and solid in color and will be better protected from moisture and the elements. The painting should always occur over a primed and well-prepared surface.

You have many options when it comes to paint colors. For example, an off-white creates a traditional look, and it looks great with a bright door to contrast it. Yellow is a happy color that, while light blue is reminiscent of an oceanfront style. Gray houses are also on trend, providing a classy and neutral tone that remains warm and inviting.

Expert opinion is mixed, but the general range is five to 10 years. However, this depends on many factors. Houses in harsh climates with extreme temperatures, lots of dust or ice or intense sunlight may need more frequent paint jobs than those in temperate climates. Also, wood houses will need new paint more often due to the changes within the wood itself. You should also consider painting the outside of your house if you plan to sell it.

Acrylic paints are generally considered good options for today’s home exterior paint jobs. You can also choose an oil-based or latex (water-based) paint. Also, look into specialty paints for your doors, roof, gutters, siding and other exterior surfaces.

While painters’ online profiles provide helpful customer reviews and other information, it’s still important to ask the right questions. Ask whether they have sufficient workman’s compensation insurance to cover any injuries to avoid any potential financial liability. Get in writing the preparatory steps the painter takes to get the house ready for painting — simply painting on top of compromised paint won’t work. And does the work include a warranty? If the paint starts to fade, peel or crack soon after completion, you’ll want recourse.

While you may choose to paint a door, ground-level window trim and other parts of your house’s exterior, it’s really a job best left to the professionals. One of the main reasons is experience. An experienced painter knows how to handle the prep work, spot problems and identify sources of future trouble, all while getting the job done more efficiently. They are also experienced with spending long hours on tall ladders. If you want high-quality work, it’s best to hire a professional painter near you

You should expect an estimate based on an actual examination of the house, as well as a plan for exactly what the painter will do. During the job, the painters should behave professionally while working as efficiently as possible to complete the job in a reasonable timeframe. Afterward, the only evidence of the paint job should be the paint itself — a professional contractor will clean up thoroughly once a job is done.

Painting a house exterior generally takes three to five days. The first day consists of cleaning away dirt, dust, loose paint, pollen, mildew and other surface contaminants. This must dry completely. The second day — and it could be more than just a day, depending on the condition of the house — is for preparation like stripping, sanding and priming. The next two to three days are for painting.

If you’re thinking about getting your home painted, contact the best exterior painters near you to ask questions and get free estimates.

It is nearly always worth it to hire a painter to paint your home’s exterior. While you may feel comfortable painting a small, one-story home, anything with multiple stories, dormers or other complexities are best left to a pro.

Additionally, it’s best to let the pros handle older homes. Any time extensive prep work is needed — such as repairing chipping, bubbling, cracking or peeling paint, or fixing caulking and substrate issues — a pro can  handle it.
