Because all of these painters are very busy I did hire Chris but the work will not start until the end of July. He did come out with an estimate that I was very pleased with and very much look forward to him doing the job for he is very courteous and quick in his response along with being so honest in what has to be done for the preparation..

Marvin and Adam are great to work with and are very responsive to expressed needs. Their work is better than other painters I have used in the past and they do clean up areas, even those flaws they haven't caused, as I have requested them to do. This is a very large house and I have hired them to do all of it now.

I contacted several different face painters and Marie was not only the cheapest but she responded to original message promptly and all inquires after that. She was very professional, friendly, and easy to work with. I was unsure on the pricing once it was time to sign the contract and she took the time to break down each service and cost! I greatly appreciated that. She arrived to my daughters party a few minutes early to set up. Marie was so patient and friendly with all the kids. Her work is phenomenal! All of the children and parents loved their kids paintings. I will definitely be using her services again and will recommend her to others. Thank you so much Marie!

I hired Stars Painting on a Sunday to paint the exterior of my house and they started the next morning. I was extremely happy with every aspect of the work they did. The painters were neat, friendly, hard working, conscientious, and meticulous with painting and then going over to make sure they got everything. A lot of attention to detail. I think the thing that really blew my mind was when Larry, the owner took the #'s from my house, home with him to repaint them black. A previous painter had painted on them and I assumed I would just go buy new #'s and there they were at the end placed freshly painted and perfectly back where they were. Who does that? It's the little things that can make such a difference. Oh and did I mention they were priced very competitively. I hope you will consider a nice company that you could literally do business with on a hand shake.

Eugene always returns my phone calls in a timely manner. His attention to detail is second to none. His pricing is very reasonable considering the quality of his work. His team arrive every morning on time and clean the job site up after themselves before leaving at the end of the day. I have used Irish Professional Painters for both Residential and Commercial work and its a very satisfying feeling to know that when I have a project that needs to be completed they are on my speed dial. Jesse was very experienced and explained everything well. There were no issues at all that weren’t address by Jesse and his competent assistant. There were no touch-ups that we’re not discussed and he left the place clean with no paint drops or trash on the floor. His rates were very reasonable. They are coming back to do anyother part of the house. They were very friendly and considerate and polite compared to other painters were have had in the past.

The beginning of the process was great! The quote was very professional and communicating was quick and easy. We also received a color consultation to help us pick colors. However, when the painters arrived they didn't know which colors we had chosen. Luckily, I had taken a picture of the samples we picked. My understanding was there was supposed to be a project manager on-site for most of the project. I wasn't there the entire time, but I only saw him about halfway through the first day, for a few minutes. They did a good job of protecting the floors. The end result is good though. It's not perfect and I will eventually go back and fix a few things, but I'm not sure painting can ever be perfect. It was definitely worth paying someone to do the job, rather than do it myself. The process and project overall was good.

Was a complete disconnect between thumbtack, the person who called me and then the contractors. The job I wanted was not able to be completed the way I was advised. However, the painters they used absolutely 100% did everything I wanted! I wish I could review them!

I had Scott do some painting at my house and glad I did! He did my interior and did a great job paying close attention to detail. I also replaced a counter top that was a challenge but Scott was patient and handled it very professionally. Call Prime Handyman and rest easily!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
