Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I want to teach people how to communicate in Spanish with what they know (they usually know something) and increase their language skills from there. I don't want to focus on memorizing long lists of vocabulary words and not have the skills to communicate effectively with Spanish speakers. We will use stories to learn to use the most frequently used words and in the process, learn to read, understand, speak Spanish. Learning what words means happens 10 times faster by reading (and discussing) than by traditional vocabulary instruction, according to second language acquisition expert, Stephen Krashen. I love meeting new people and getting to know them. Language is crucial to this! By learning a second language, you amplify the number of persons whom you can get to know. Understanding words, where they come from and how we can use them is also very interesting. It really does help us use our own language better! I like exploring that with students.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I got into teaching Spanish after I lived in Paraguay for a couple years. I went with no ability to speak Spanish but with a foundation of basic structures and vocabulary. I learned to understand and communicate in relatively short period of time by getting involved in the community and making an effort at conversations. I met some wonderful people and those relationships formed the foundation for my career. I value people from other cultures and want to give others the language tools to make similar relationships.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Learning a second language is exciting and fun! The most enjoyable classes are those where there's lots of laughter accompanying the learning. That's what I like to bring to the lesson.
