I am now the proud owner of the cleanest gutters in my neighborhood. Francisco also recommended and executed some repairs including patching a hole in the overhang of my garage and matching the paint. He did such an incredible job and I would definitely recommend this company, not only for the quality of work, but for the ease of communication and affordability as well. I could not be happier with the job that was done and will definitely be using this company again in the future!

Toby did an excellent job painting for me. It was a tough job as there is one wall that is decorative cement block and one will with a stone fireplace that goes to the ceiling. Was careful and did not get paint where it did not belong.

Fantastic experience with Jacob and his team of paint ninjas. I was contacted and quoted immediately and they started work the next day. Especially being the busy season, I was very impressed with their responsiveness. Also the guys were real professionals and very nice. The quality of the work is fantastic so this is a 5-star review, well deserved. Thanks Jacob!

I hired Gonzalez Construction to do a complete condo remodel. The job included paint throughout, (walls, doors, trim, ceiling), all new lighting throughout, a complete bathroom remodel, kitchen backsplash, refinish the cabinets, and wood floors throughout. I found Daniel to be professional. He handled any concerns I had throughout completion of the project. I would hire again.

Steve did an excellent job and was very easy to work with! He made this task simple. All I had to do was buy the paint and empty most of the room and he did the rest. The spare bedroom now looks fantastic. Steve was extremely quick to respond to my request and came over first for a quick estimate and then for the appointment to paint. I'll definitely use him again. Thank you Steve!

Jim's eye for color and his willingness to "go the extra mile" made the process of selecting colors for our home a breeze. The actual painting was equally smooth and the results--spectacular! Highly recommend Jim and his talented team of painters for your next paint job.

Jesse was very experienced and explained everything well. There were no issues at all that weren’t address by Jesse and his competent assistant. There were no touch-ups that we’re not discussed and he left the place clean with no paint drops or trash on the floor. His rates were very reasonable. They are coming back to do anyother part of the house. They were very friendly and considerate and polite compared to other painters were have had in the past.

We worked with three people at Foothills Painting. The first person, Hillary, was awesome. She answered lots of questions and helped us understand the whole process during the quoting stage of the process. In the end we decided to go with Foothills painting because of our interaction with Hillary even though the quote was a little more than other quotes we received. From that point things went downhill though. After we signed the contract I never received an emailed copy of the contract as expected. When it was time to schedule the job (since we hired them a month before we needed them) I had to call Kyle (the production manager and 2nd person I worked with) 3 separate times (once per day) plus another call/text to Hillary asking for help getting a hold of Kyle before getting a callback to schedule the painting job. When I finally got a hold of Kyle on Monday he said he could either do Friday or Monday of the upcoming weekend and he would call on Thursday to confirm which day it was. On Wednesday I found my drywall work was going to run through Friday and we needed to have paint start on Monday, so I called Kyle, went to voicemail and left him a voicemail stating paint needed to start on Monday. I never got a callback as he said he would give me. On Friday the painter arrived despite my voicemail stating I wouldn't be ready. I was planning on getting the house ready over the weekend for paint to be ready to come in. For fear of being charged a return fee or further delaying paint I said Jose (the third person I worked with) could paint the dry texture on the main floor. When I got home that day I found all of my tools pushed to the center of the room in a big pile of trash (there was no separation between trash and tools). I had to go dig through the trash to make sure my tools and other parts for the house were not thrown out later. I later found out the mounting brackets for the towel holder and toilet paper holder for our bathroom were tossed in the trash can under our vanity and inevitably were thrown out, requiring us to buy a new set. Originally we were told the painters were going to roll paint on rather than spray, which is what I told my drywallers, so they finished the ceiling to be good for rolled paint rather than spray which would have required an extra coat of flat texture on the ceiling. Unfortunately Jose decided to spray to save time so now our ceilings look terrible in some spaces where rolling the paint would have hid the imperfections better. Another issue that came up while painting is the paint didn't completely cover the wall. There are spots where the sheen is matte rather than eggshell due to the new drywall absorbing too much of the paint because enough paint wasn't used. When I pointed this out Jose said I'd have to buy more paint and that it would be an upcharge. During the initial quote it was known that there would be new drywall though, requiring enough paint to properly cover the new wall. I'm not sure if this issue came out due to a bad estimate or due to spraying the paint on, losing 30% of the paint to the air requiring one more coat that wasn't estimated originally. Because Jose was working on the weekend I had no way to discuss this extra charge to Kyle and Jose said I could either pay him for the paint while he was there or I'd have to pay twice as much to have him come back and do another quote. I decided to pay there and figure it out with Foothills later. Once Jose was done there was still spots with mis-matched sheen (I have a photo attached of the stairwell that was 100% new wall but the paint is still patchy). As well as the mis-matched sheen in places there was overspray on everything as well as some damage that needed fixing, it took Jose 2 full days to fix everything. Some things that needed to be cleaned/fixed: * Cuts from one of their taping tools on the ceilings in several rooms and the stairwell. * Cuts from their taping tool on my Nest thermostat trim piece requiring me to get a new trim piece (Jose spray painted it brown to cover the cuts, but that made the trim no longer fit the thermostat). * Wood stove, windows, vanities, lights had overspray on them. * carpet had overspray on it as well as spilled paint( when the overspray was cleaned an oily residue was left behind that I had to clean up instead). * A switch and outlet were completely painted (there was zero taping on the switch and outlet). * A corner in my hallway had all the drywall rubbed off due to the hose rubbing along it * Vent covers were all oversprayed. In the end when I could get a hold of Kyle to try to figure the cost of the extra paint out and why it had occurred he wanted me to figure things out with his sub-contractor Jose rather than resolve things with Jose himself. Given they hired Jose I should have worked out the price with him and he should have figured out what the fair amount to give to their sub-contractor should have been. This made the whole process even more complicated and frustrating. In the end we were left with a paint job we could have done ourselves and more damage and frustration than we bargained for. I wish things had worked out, our experience with Hillary was excellent, but unfortunately everything else was terrible.

I have worked with Five Star Painting on two projects so far, they are now my my preferred painting company and I will continue to use them for all of my projects. Being a Project Manager, I want to work with companies who are professional, responsive and who care and deliver a quality outcome and at a good price. What I like most about Five Star Painting is their process, right away the schedule someone to provide you with a free estimate, they are knowledgeable in what they do and can offer many suggestions. As soon as you accept the quote, you are contacted by a Project Manager who oversees your project from start to finish. The painters are extremely hardworking and skilled. They show up on time and are clean and professional. I had Five Star Painting paint three bedrooms, bathroom and a full basement with ceilings, they did an amazing job. Don't waste time calling and getting quotes from anyone else, call Five Star Painting, you won't regret it! Leah

Wait, seriously, go no further! Scot with prime handyman is who you want to hire! I’m telling you! I hired Scot just to paint the interior of my home, yet after a nightmare experience with a general contractor who left my home unfinished, Scot handled it all! He literally finished everything the other guy didn’t, basically became my new General Contractor to help me out, took over the whole project, got it all done in a timely manner, was there to consult as well as doing the work, didn’t even flinch when more work was needed to do to fix the other guys mistakes, then painted the place beautifully, and left my home better then how I imagined. This guys the real deal. Now and again you get an amazing find on thumbtack of someone you know you’ll always call from now on for work, Scot with Prime Handyman is it!! Truly great experience. He will impress you for sure!

Austin was a total professional. He was fast in his responses, helped to work around our busy schedule and delivered the perfect end result for our kitchen's new paint job. On top of that, he is incredibly personable. You can tell that he cares about and takes pride in what he does. He even offered us a few tips on how we can take care of some smaller touch-ups around the apartment. We highly recommend Austin for your painting needs!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
