Lemar was great to work with at Lemar Griffin Films & Photography! He was very prompt with all communications and the delivery of the final pictures. I work at a youth sports sponsorship company and we needed someone to go and take pictures at a volleyball court in our sponsor's jerseys. Lemar was flexible with game schedules and was open to interacting with league coaches/players on-site. After connecting on Thumbtack, he agreed to go on-site in less than 24-hours and turned the edited photos in the same night. Our sponsor was highly satisfied with the pictures and we'll definitely work with him again in the Denver area! Already planning opportunities for later this summer.

I hired Jeff as a second shooter for a wedding and he was wonderful! I even hired him a second time to go film something on his own, because I was confident in his work. Very professional, great work!

Guillermo filmed my wedding and reception in May 2014. He did a wonderful job, and I am so happy with both the filming quality and his editing of the film. He also made a 5 minute "highlight" video that is great! He worked within the restrictions of my church concerning where he could/couldn't film, lighting concerns etc to create a wonderful video that was respectful of the sanctuary. He even worked with me on the day of the wedding to extend his filming by an extra hour so that he could catch some important reception events. Overall, I am so happy with the job he did and he was very professional to work with!

I've worked with Jeff on many video productions, he is hands down one of the easiest people to work with and is definitely willing to go the extra mile to make a difference. He is punctual, extremely reliable and follows through with every commitment. For someone that I can depend on, I would easily call Jeff first.

Bill and Jane have established a very prominent and unique studio, they found a niche in the market and filled it with fantastic shot compositions and emphasis on the emotion of the moment. Sky High worked with me on a commercial shoot and they filmed our wedding - I highly recommend them for any project requiring detailed or unique perspective. Sky High has developed an exceptional talent for editing and producing finished content with strong ties to the emotions associated with the work. Two thumbs way up for Sky High, for Bill and for Jane - you both are amazing!

Gwyneth and Jeremiah are INCREDIBLE to work with—both in the quality of the work they produce, and the atmosphere they create when you are working with them. Rob was a top-notch professional from start to finish on the filming and editing of our series of 6 short company videos. Before we even met, he had put together some background ideas and looked at our scripts. On shoot day, he set everything up, uploaded our scripts to the teleprompter, made changes to the script after we saw how it flowed, and encouraged us throughout the half day of filming. He provided files to us within a couple of days in a way that allowed us to provide immediate feedback. He made the minor changes we requested and we now have 6 amazing, professionally-done videos for promoting our company. Rob was really great to work with and we look forward to our next project with him.

BOOK BRIAN!!! Not only does he do amazing work, he is also VERY responsive, punctual, nice, professional and to top it all off, reasonably priced. Brian also works well with other vendors, especially our photographer. They collaborated on cool shots and both products turned out amazing. After watching our videos (over and over and over again) I am SO glad I spent the extra money to get a videographer and I will recommend Brian to everyone.

I hired Jose to travel out of state and film my music video in South Beach, Miami. When he arrived, he was timely and concerned about project details. He was flexible and willing to shoot without a fundamental storyboard as if he had devised one along the way. Jose is dedicated to each project like it is his, he's a true visionary who is attentive to details. I would recommend him to any artist, small or large or budget.

Working with Ross and Annette at Emerald Fox Productions was a fantastic experience from start to finish. From our initial bid/meeting to the delivery of our final photos and video shoot, they were professional, friendly and went above and beyond our expectations. Our band hired them to film our concert at the Dickens Opera House and take photos of the performance as well. They edited shots from multi camera videos for four songs and a compilation highlight video of our performance. The color, camera angles and editing were perfect and in addition the audio quality was superior. I recommend any band, or artist who wants to have a high quality and professional video shoot should consider Emerald Fox productions first!

I had a video recording that needed to be edited and the editing had to be coordinated with a power point. I met with Laurel and went over what I was looking for. She took notes and made excellent and intuitive suggestions. Laurel did a fantastic job with the final video! If you are looking for someone who is knowledgable, personable and prompt, then I highly recommend Laurel Cohen!

Wade and I collaborated on his award winning documentary, Marvin Booker Was Murdered, about a wrongful death in Denver. Wade's passion and drive to see a feature length film though the filmmaking process (from conception, through production, through editing, and release through festivals and community screenings) cannot be understated. The film has sparked meaningful conversation about violence from law enforcement, and it has even initiated positive steps toward reform from the City of Denver administration. Without Wade's hard work, focus, and leadership, the story of Marvin Booker would not have been told. On commercial projects that Wade has taken on, he is very personable and collaborative. He listens and communicates effectively to pull off the client's vision while appropriately adding his own input. In his careful editing, Wade avoids the cookie cutter cliches of video promos and makes the work stand out as an honest documentary film, instead of a forced, corporate ad. Wade is a great choice for video production and editing projects in Colorado.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
