Introduction: I am an experienced tutor who has helped students in math, reading, writing, and French. I like to use a multi-sensory approach in the teaching of reading and a hands-on approach whenever possible in teaching any subject, especially elementary math. I also provide expert tutoring in SAT test preparation. I usually meet with student and parents initially in a no-cost consultation and assessment. James has been working with my eight year old son Joey for the past two years. In first grade Joey was below grade level in reading. School homework was frustrating because Joey could not read the directions and nightly reading became a battle at home. James began working with Joey one day a week at our local library. James was always punctual and came prepared with an agenda and numerous activities that kept my sons attention. Joey bonded instantly with James, and as a 7-8 year old boy Joey never once complained about having to go meet with James. The reason being is because Joey himself knows that James has helped him in so many ways. Joey is now reading at grade level and actually enjoys reading! The one thing that I am most impressed with is that within 24 hours of James meeting with my son he will e-mail me an extremely detailed, lengthy summary of everything they worked on during the session, the plan for the next meeting, and homework assignments. The time James puts into my son is very much appreciated and I am truly grateful that we found such a wonderful tutor for Joey!

James tutored my daughter for the SAT as well as the SAT math level II subject test. He is very knowledgeable of the subject matter as well as of the necessary strategies to tackle these tests with positive outcomes. My daughter was very happy with his tutoring style and felt confident on test day.

Tutoring rate is negotiable and depends upon the subject and level of work.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After talking with parents on the phone, we set up an initial no-cost consultation to discuss my qualifications and their needs further. At that time, I usually do an assessment of the student. Afterwards, we agree on expectations, meeting time and place, rate, and method of payment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a tutor for many years as well as a former classroom teacher of English, math, and composition. My tutoring experience also includes SAT prep to students in small groups and in a classroom setting. Mu experience with teaching reading includes the Wilson Reading Program, Abecedarian program, and the Laubach way.
