Excellent. Great listening skills, very perceptive with a great knowledge about canine behavior — in particular— rescue dogs. She gave some sound advice on acclamating a new rescue dog with our dog Trixie that has been with us for 8 years (she is 10). Her helpful techniques and insights have been paying off.

Pricilla does an excellent job. My house is sparkling and smells wonderful when she leaves. Somehow she's able to get every bit of dog hair and dust. I trust her enough to leave my house while she's cleaning, which says so much!

I just want to tell you how much I (on behalf of CT Baptist Homes, Senior Community) appreciate the Pet Therapy you help us provide. This is so valuable and deeply appreciated. Our residents and staff all look forward to the dog(s) coming and we see so many heartwarming responses. As you know our population is composed of memory impaired and senior population. It is exciting as well as gratifying to me to see most of our residents ( mostly animal lovers) respond so well to the dog(s). The dogs are not only a pleasant experience but also an important memorable one that we would not otherwise have without you . Memories are triggered with wonderful reminiscing experiences. What you all do means so much to me both personally and professionally! Thank you for all work and spirit. Robin, a BIG THANK YOU for making all our "ruff" days much more enjoyable!

Neeve did an excellent job with my dog. We began to see a change in his demeanor almost immediately. She was extremely positive and worked with me to come up with a realistic plan for my dog. We discussed followup visits and training. She worked around my schedule. I highly recommend Neeve and her dog training skills.

We got a young rescue dog Yasik, a lab mix with a dominance streak, a year ago. Joyce (Bred for Life) has guided us through a stepwise training method in weekly sessions in our house. Yasik turned gradually from a non-stop holy terror to a responsive member of the household. Amazing, impressive, real results. Joyce not only knows what she is doing but she is graced with solid communicative skills and an outgoig good nature. Thumbs up 100%, recommending strongly.

Sarah watched my dogs for 10 days about a month ago. I have two dogs and work from home so they have beyond extreme separation anxiety, so I was very tentative to travel, but had to leave the country so taking my dogs with me was not an option. A close friend of mine recommended her to me and I tried it. I am so beyond grateful for Sarah and her services. She brought my dogs everywhere with her, fortunately she has a job allowing her to bring them to work with her, she brought them to local dog parks and even brought them to a dog bakery to pick out their own snacks and then stopped at PetSmart to let them pick out some new toys, much more than I would ever expect any petsitter to do. She kept me updated sending me at least two texts with pictures of my babies and responded to all my messages. My female dog, Madison, takes a while to warm up to people and can be snippy, Sarah had no issues at all with her and Madison trusted her within minutes of Sarah watching her. I returned home to a wonderful picture collage of my dogs "Vacation with Sarah" and them happily asleep in their beds snuggled with their new toys, I have Sarah routinely come take them on trips now as they love to leave the house and adventure with her, they always come home super happy and then sadly walk around for at least an hour after she leaves. I couldn't have found a better pet sitter if I had duplicated myself! She truly is amazing

I reached out to Josh for help because my dog would lash out at other dogs when we went for walks, hikes, etc. I was very pleased with his work! He arrived on time, earlier than expected, to really make sure I got the most out of my session. The quality of his work is very professional and you could tell he truly cares about helping you and your dog! He is very knowledgeable in numerous different behavioral issues, which was impressive. He taught me how to take control of my dog and now my dog is doing much better socially. Josh also responded to my emails in a timely mannner when I would have quick questions. I would highly recommend this service!!

Valerie has been taking care of our dog Winnie for almost a year. From the beginning she has been so great, we love having her take care of Winnie and she's taking care of WINNIE now 5 days a week while we're at work. Valerie sends us detailed messages every day about her visits with Winnie, it makes us feel very Happy knowing WINNIE is in such good hands, and so loved and cared for when we can't be with her. We feel very fortunate to have found Valerie to take care of our dog. VALERIE has been so flexible, reliable and consistent, not to mention trustworthy, we would recommend her to anyone who needs a caring and reliable caretaker for their pet!!😊😊

I had to cancel because my child broke his arm and she was very nice about it. I rescheduled and my dog never looked prettier! I do not like leaving my dog at a groomer, so this worked out great!

Sound Pups Walking Company has been one of the best decisions I've ever made! I never have to worry about leaving my dog home because I know Sound Pups will always be there when I schedule them and right on time. I recently was able to witness the love my dog has for the owner, Kate. It puts my mind at such ease knowing he is in good hands and that he loves every minute of his time with them. Thank you for a wonderful service and experience....Tito thanks to too!!

Gail has been walking our dog Marley for 4 years. He is our baby and Gail takes very good care of him. Marley gets so excited when Gail comes to pick him up for his walk . Gail has also helped out if we need her to come by and walk him multiple times a day if we have an all day event to go to or when on vacation. Thank you Gail for your love for Marley and for all your help .

Natasha has been a lifesaver for me. Its so great to be able to schedule a walk and a visit for my dog, Benji, on days I have to work late or go out of town. So much easier then dropping him off at a boarding center. Benji gets to enjoy the comfort of his own home, without all the unnecessary stress that boarding causes. Natasha goes above and beyond too! So much more love for my guy than he would get in a “prison cell” at a boarding center. I know Natasha treats him with as much love as possible and that is vital for me to know when I already feel so guilty for leaving him. Gives me great peace of mind and I would recommend her services to anyone! Very affordable as well. - Jasmine D.

Emily has taken care of my very anxious dog for several years whenever we have to go away. She sends me photos of him, responds to texts, and texts me if there are any issues. He seems to do well with eating after his initial anxiety about me being away, and I come home to a perky, happy, well cared for pet!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
