Edward was super nice and very knowledgeable about washer and dryers. He let me know that I should swap out my gas dryer to be electric. He installed one set in our upstairs unit and it works perfectly! We will be seeing him again soon!

Jeff replied to my request within 10 min and managed to come by the same evening at exact time he committed to. His knowledge is striking. He knew what the problem was with my washing machine right away. He fixed my washing machine, tested it at least 3 times. Everything was working within some 30 min. Real professional. Jeff gave me some tips on what to watch for. His rate was very reasonable. He didn't add anything to initial quote. I will hire Jeff without hesitation again and again. Highly recommend.

Working with Patty was everything dealing with a repair person should be. Her response to my message was prompt and she was friendly and professional on the phone. She showed up on time for the appointment, worked quickly, and did a great job. Our dryer now hums like a racing car. And it cost exactly what was originally quoted to us! I'm a believer and Gene's Washing Repair Service is now on both my phone and my wife's in case anything else breaks. I will gladly recommend her to anyone I hear about with a washer or dryer problem.

David Mehring contacted me within minutes of my Thumbtack request. I decided to hire Top Notch Repairs immediately to repair our washer. He and his associate were on our doorstep promptly at the appointed time. They were thorough in their eyes investigation of the problem, and honest in their assessment that the washer was not in need of repair - it was a plumbing problem. I thought the cost of the house call was reasonable. I was able to contact our local plumber and resolve the problem the very next day. Would gladly work with Top Notch again.

Dan was flexible with scheduling and advised us to get a new dryer bc the repairs would be too costly. Will definitely call him the next time an appliance is broken.

The other day I had just started in to a mountain of laundry that I have needed to do for 2 weeks, when my Whirlpool Dryer quit producing heat. It would still run, but no heat. Arrrrgh! So I found Los Angeles Appliance Repair on my phone, and set up an appointment. I was impressed at how easy their website was to navigate using my smartphone. I scheduled an appointment for two days out. The technician Jerry showed up on time and he took a look at the dryer. He discovered that the thermostat was burned out, and he just happened to have one with him. Oh happy Day! He swapped out the fuse, and I was doing laundry again before he left the building. The service was prompt and professional. The technician was friendly and knowledgeable, and the final bill was very reasonable. I will definitely be adding this company to my contacts for the future.

Called TMG Oven Repair on 2 different occasions now - first time for a Bosch dryer issue, and second time for a Viking refrigerator repair. Response was pretty speedy; work was done on time, and got a warranty on the work as well. Would definitely recommend TMG Oven Repair over some of the other (shady) appliance repair companies!

My washer and dryer were broken and out of service for weeks. I called Igor and he fixed it like new after ordering parts. The price for the repair was comparable to others but their service was fantastic and quick. No complaints.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

      • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
      • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
      • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

      How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
