FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Tuition -- I have four levels of pricing: 1) very young children age 6 to 8 ($40 per 1/2 hr.) 2) children age 8 to 11 ($45 per 3/4 hr.) 3) older students from 12 to 21 ($48 per hr.) 4) Adults from age 22 -- ($55 per hr.) * Mature adults (65 yrs. & up) $5 off the adult fee
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My students' time with me is quite structured so as to make the most of our time together. We begin with assigned technical work, scales or arpeggi and other various technical exercises for warm-up (I rely on the Dozen-a-Day series and even my adults use these as well as the children!) Then we begin to work together on the assigned repertoire, which is geared to the level of advancement and a balanced menu is vital (classics, modern, contemporary, early jazz and rock for fun). We sometimes end up by looking thru music for the near future and I will often sit down and play things I think will "light up" their young faces and give them pieces to look forward to playing themselves!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance with honors from the State University of New York at Fredonia, N.Y. And as a high school student I acted as an apprentice to my own teacher by stopping off at childrens' homes before going home to give lessons to young beginners! It was invaluable to learning my craft of teaching, and marvelous for my confidence as a young tutor.
