Blue Ribbon arrived on time , did a fantastic job, and even looked out for me and my infant when planning out a multilevel cleaning. Professionalism beyond what you will see from a large company. Highly recommend them for carpet and tile cleaning.

I needed someone to clean my bathroom/closet tile after I was unable to get it clean following some water damage. On a whim I got on this site, and Oxi Fresh answered with a quote almost immediately. They sent someone out that day, and the floor looks great! Very easy process all around. Thanks!

Val did an excellent job cleaning one of our bathoom's white tile floor. He came when he said he would, explained exactly what he was going to do and got right to work. The grout had ground in black dirt so he said he'd try to clean a small section first and if it didn't clean up satisfactorily he'd stop and there would be no charge. Fortunately, he got it bright white again. What a difference! He's coming back to do another bathroom floor.

Fast and responsive service. Had vinyl tiles laid in kitchen floor and 3 rooms of carpet on the 3rd floor steamed cleaned. Very good results, excellent quality for both jobs. We will use them for all our future flooring and carpet needs.

This service is EXCEPTIONAL. Not only did the owner reply within minutes after I contacted Thumbtack, he gave me a quote (which was right in line with my budget, so I accepted immediately) and scheduled my upholstery cleaning within a few days. He arrived on time, did a fantastic job, was professional and personable, and I would have him back for other work - carpet or furniture cleaning - in a heartbeat.

Overall, I was very happy with the job that Philip did in our condo. He was very easy to work with, and he was very professional. I hired Philip for a complete general cleaning, as the previous tenant of my condo did not leave the place in very good shape at all. Philip got mostly everything clean in record time, though there were still a few spots I had to clean on my own (doors, bathroom tile grout, etc.). I mainly decided to have someone professional do the job because I was concerned about the terrible dog urine smell left from the previous tenant. At first it seemed like Philip's job did the trick, but slowly the smell has been coming back. I reached out to Philip about it, and he mentioned that the smell is probably soaked through the padding. Overall, Philip was great! Not perfect, but I am still very pleased.

To quote George Steinbrenner about George on Seinfeld, "Hire This Man". Matt is the best contractor we have worked with. We had a very ugly white tile kitchen floor and Matt came in to provide an estimate. We bought the supplies, which he picked up for us, and he quoted us the labor cost, which was extremely reasonable for 6 days of work. Matt showed up on time each day, even coming over on a Sunday for a few hours. He was very transparent in what he was going to be completing each day and met the objective each time. He is very friendly (even stopping to pet our dogs who bothered him a few times) and personable. He even told us that we still had a few extra items left over and returned them to the store for to get us a refund. I feel like most contractors wouldn't tell you if you have left over supplies, but not him! When he was done with the project, he cleaned up everything, wiping down anything that may have gotten dirty as a result. He is very careful, laying out plastic protectors so dust didn't settle on our counter tops. I normally don't shell out 5 star reviews, but Matt is very deserving. He will be our go to when we get the bathroom floors redone in the near future!

I contracted Unlimited Resources, Inc. for a designer paint job and the installation of exotic hardwood floors throughout my living room and family room and ceramic flooring in the kitchen. I was hesitant about the paint combination because I was stepping outside of my box but Mr. Litman advised me through the purchases and I was thoroughly pleased with the end result. I picked out a very expensive exotic wood which would have to be ordered and would take weeks to arrive and I was working within a tight timeline to have the work completed. Mr. Litman was able to locate the wood in the metropolitan area and completed the project in an expeditious manner. My neighbors and family have asked to see the finished work and I've received rave reviews! I wouldn't hesitate to use Unlimited Resources, Inc. for future home improvement endeavors.

Curtis so far has remodeled one bathroom for me. His crew laid a beautiful checkerboard ceramic tile floor, replaced the vanity, vanity top, mirror, and toilet, and painted and installed all new bars and a light fixture. They are honest, hard-working, and tidy workers. They laid drop cloths on floors to keep them from getting dirty and hauled away all trash. They are great at listening to what the customer wants and fulfilling those requests. They are also punctual. I love the bathroom and cannot wait for them to begin work on remodeling my master bathroom!

The kitchen was remodeled by g and e contractors. My designers-Dave and Glen-- were very knowledgable and wonderful to work with. Glen drew out my kitchen, and allowed me to really see it ahead of time. Dave was there whenever I had concerns and issues. My kitchen looks great now--tremendous expansion through my living room, new windows for a spacious view, quality all wood cabinets, 12 by 12 ceramic tiles in white, all looks simply marvelous. Paul and his team were true craftsman

I recently hired Roman to complete a few different home improvement projects in my condominium bathroom. These tasks included the installation of a bathroom vanity as well as new ceramic tile on the bathroom floor. I was very pleased with the professionalism that Roman displayed as well as his attention to detail and desire to give me the exact service that I requested. Roman updated me throughout the process to ensure that the work was being done to my exact specifications. I have and will continue to recommend his quality work to anyone in need of home improvement.

“Count yourself fortunate if you have an opportunity to work with Fairfax Marble And Tile. Installing a new floor or bathroom is often fraught with anxiety, but you can set your fears aside when you put yourself in the hands of Ben Dyer and his crew. Considering the widespread recognition the company has received for its creations, not to mention its winning entry in the Residential Natural Stone category of the Tenth Annual National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA) TileLetter Awards, it is almost an understatement to say that Ben Dyer will deliver a high-quality product. Customers in Northern Virginia have a right to expect that their projects will be done well and in a timely fashion, and Fairfax Marble And Tile will not disappoint them. What customers may not expect, however, is the personal service that accompanies every aspect of the job. Phone calls and e-mails are returned promptly, a supervisor is always available to answer questions, and Ben does 95% of the work himself and visits all work sites on a daily basis. So focused is the attention that you may even be lulled into thinking that you are the only client, when in fact, you are simply one of many discriminating homeowners who have chosen Fairfax Marble and Tile.. Exasperated with subcontractors? Suspicious of temporary laborers? Worry no more, for as the Fairfax team includes carpenters and plumbers as well as master tilers who have all been certified by the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation- subcontractor delays and incompetent workmanship will be a thing of the past. Furthermore, Ben plans in advance and executes on schedule, minimizing any potential disruption to your household. Most importantly, perhaps, he also offers a five-year guarantee on his work--a guarantee that is far longer than those provided by the majority of his competitors. Home improvements can be unpredictable and costly; why take a chance on a company with less experience when Fairfax Marble and Tile will do the job right the first time." A. Simko

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

    • Old standard or electric toothbrush
    • Stiff bristle brush
    • Spray bottle
    • White vinegar
    • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
