His work is done with great precision. He also has creative ways of tackling seemingly undoable situations. The end products were amazing. Furthermore, he has class and is a really special person.. The fact that he enjoyed listening to our opera for hours on end added to the experience. His tasks for the day included: installing a complicated ceiling fixture, putting up a hanging wineglass rack, putting together a complex, butcher block table, raising the master bed so that the drawers would pull out with ease on the carpet, hanging a treasured Picasso hooked rug, straightening out a very large area rug, embedded under some very heavy furniture, which our movers left askew. He is wonderful!

Great experience! I highly recommend Rent2day. Don't go with a company that sends a salesman who will try to sell you. Go with Rent2day and your first visit is by a master plumber, who gets right to work solving your plumbing issues.

I hired Antonio (Tony) Sanchez from Renaissance Restoration to complete a kitchen renovation this past fall (sorry I did not get around to completing this review sooner!). I did all the demolition, but the job included lights and electrical, plumbing repair, cabinet and counter top install, appliance install, and painting. Tony gave a very reasonable estimate and personally worked on my project with his assistant from start to finish as opposed to having one of his employees complete the job. As he began the job, he soon realized that virtually nothing from the original construction was square (townhouse was built in 1987). However, that did not phase him as he had the skills to adjust making those imperfections unnoticeable in the end. In addition, Tony has skills in most of the trades which meant that he did not have to sub different parts of the job out; he did all the electrical, plumbing and carpentry himself. The best part of my experience working with Tony was that he discussed and explained different options or ways of completing a task to ensure there were no surprises, and I was impressed with his willingness to even teach me a little along the way. He was flexible in allowing me to have a friend install the tile floor and was understanding of my need to stick to a rather tight budget. There are only two comments I could make for overall improvement: cleanliness and timeliness. On a couple of occasions, I had to discard empty food containers and drinks that had been left behind. I attributed this to oversight and could be easily improved by making an effort to clean up the work site after each day of work. Considering it was not a space I was using though, it was not that big of a deal. As for timeliness, the project took longer than expected to complete. However, I know that my involvement did have some impact on the schedule and the fact he was doing the work himself while still managing other jobs is a factor. I would not hesitate to bring Tony in for another project in the future. I am completely satisfied with his work and would recommend him to anyone.

My husband and I bought a new home and did not care too much for the paint job/color scheme the previous owners had on the walls. We checked a few quotes on Thumbtack and Sam had the friendliest response, by far. Sam was outgoing and timely for the initial quote. He was patient, personable, and professional. He recommended paint options/ideas especially in the master bedroom. He suggested creating an accent color in the coffin ceiling and we went with it. It looks awesome and we absolutly love it...we definitely would not have thought of it on our own and are thankful for his advie. See the picture! Sam even spent extra time giving us pointers on places to eat and hang out in our new community. He was available to respond to any questions I had about paint or opinions via text and was prompt and helpful each time I reached out. He and the crew were able to do the job, all in one day, 8 days before our move-in date. The house looks WAY better than it was when we bought and have Sam and his staff to thank. We would hire Sam and his crew again and would recommend them to our friends and family in the future.

Was hired to take down old fixture, put in new, patch and paint ceiling Excellent work. Priced fairly. He is trained to do electrical, but not insured master electrician. Can do simple re wiring, but I had electrical issues in wall which he could not complete. So I am waiting for an electrician company to come and it’s going to cost three times as much but that’s for complex work. Aspect is great for basic projects.

I was very pleased with the professionalism, skill and attention to detail that Saul and his assistant provided yesterday. This was a relatively straightforward carpentry repair project -- replacing a damaged wooden balustrade on our front porch, and repairing woodpecker damage on the portico above it. The price was fair, and Saul even reduced it slightly when he realized that the job took less time than he had anticipated. An excellent experience all the way around.

Best Company Ever!!! I contacted MJ Home Services originally to have my vents cleaned. John & his team responded immediately and found that I had some mold issues as my home is 62 years old. They completely cleaned my whole system and treated my basement to eradicate the mold. John also did several other jobs for me in addition to the mold treatment including, carpet cleaning, installing a French drain, and many other small jobs which greatly improved our home. John is the Master & is very knowledgeable. He and his team were prompt, courteous, professional, reliable, affordable, and very pleasant to work with throughout the entire process. I highly recommend MJ Services for any air duct or carpet cleaning or any of the services they provide. You will be very happy using this company, which is very rare these days!!! I would give them 10 stars if I could!!!

Learned about Curtis' company through work he did for a neighbor who was extremely satisfied with his work. They allowed us to see the work he'd done on their master bath and it looked great. We had our townhouse kitchen renovated by them. Curtis provided a very comprehensive estimate which detailed some items we hadn't considered such as daily clean-up, the payment schedule, and how receipts would be handled for materials purchases. His estimate came in at the middle of 4 estimates we received for tear-down of the original kitchen, new cabinet installation, tile floors and backsplash with some electrical and plumbing thrown in. He was able to accommodate an earlier start date when the cabinets we ordered were available earlier then expected by 2 weeks. He and his 2 assistants worked efficiently and more importantly they took care when doing the demo (and throughout the project) to protect the hallway floors and other areas of the house from dust, dirt and debris. They worked very efficiently and by the end of the 2nd day were starting on laying the tile floor. Cabinet installation went smoothly and he was kind enough to point out a couple items which we needed to report back to the cabinet makers regarding some bowing. Overall the project took approximately 9 business days from start to finish with a few small visits to finish up hardware, trim and reinstallation of the dishwasher once the counters and sink folks (separate company) finished their piece. His 2 assistants were equally pleasant and made us feel comfortable so we could ask questions as needed. We plan to use Curtis' company Oddjobs.pro again for upcoming bathroom renovations and some other work we need done.

Look no further. Juan is one of the best painters I've ever met. From the beginning of my search Juan's work and professionalism stood out among the others. As soon as I saw Juans portfolio online, I knew he was the right one for me. He is more than a painter. He's a carpenter, a handyman, and so much more. After all, that's really what folks need in a good painter. This conviction was confirmed even before I met him in person. Juan was forthright and proactive in laying out the logistics of what to expect in advance of our appointment. When he was running late for his appointment, he called to let me know. Once reviewing my project, he allowed enough time to talk with me about his style, his work, and listen to what I wanted and expected. Juan is friendly, personable, highly skilled at his trade, and very conscientious. He's a consummate professional and has very reasonable rates. He finished his job ahead of schedule and completed other tasks I asked if he could do. I am very pleased with the final results. He painted the entire interior of my home and kept a keen eye for fine detail throughout. I highly recommend Juan and encourage you to take the time to familiarize yourself with his work. Next time you need a painter, you now know who to call.

Henry and his team did a great job painting our entryway, staircase wall, and master bedroom. They meticulously spackled anything that was needed prior to painting and took their time to finish the project. We are thrilled with how it turned out and are anticipating hiring them in the future.

Dennis is the first contractor I have worked with that actually called me back. He is very prompt and very professional. His crew was very respectful of my property and cleaned up the job site at the end of each day. Eugene is one of the best carpenters I have had the pleasure to work with and the deck he built for us is the envy of the neighborhood.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
