Great experience, from start to finish! We hired them for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary party (5 hours total). Vinny was responsive, professional and great to work with. The photo booth operator, Ben, contacted me ahead of time to introduce himself and he was punctual, professional & patient. It was a fabulous hit with everyone at the party and a tremendous value. We would definitely hire them again!!

Winstead was so awesome! I booked a trial makeup session with Winstead for my wedding and then booked him for my bridal party. Winstead tailored each application based on style, skin tone and preference and each of my bridesmaids was thrilled with the result as was I! I had so many compliments as did my bridesmaids. I fully recommend Winstead stead Studios!

We couldn't be more pleased with Monumental Arts. We had a very unconventional wedding, but the photographer adapted easily and came up with some great shots. He was professional and considerate and the photos we got were fabulous. We would definitely recommend them.

Party Favor Photo was so much fun to have at our wedding reception! They were punctual and set everything up with no issues at all. They were completely professional and very easy to communicate with in the days leading up to our wedding, and they had all of our digital photos available for viewing the day after the event, which was faster than I expected! Our guests loved having both the photobooth prints and the digital versions available for viewing, and the pictures turned out really well. One thing I appreciated beyond words is that the photobooth attendant flagged my husband and I down at the end of the night, right after our send-off, and told us that we should do a quick shoot in the photobooth since we hadn't had a chance to do so over the course of the very busy and hectic night. That was so sweet and thoughtful, and we both appreciated her thinking of that for us. I had no complaints and wouldn't hesitate to use them again, or recommend them!

First if all, I am hard to impress and easily the most critical perfectionist Ive met to date, and I can speak in absolutes to say that hiring and working with Josh was THE BEST experience of my life. Choosing Josh was a no-brainer to me after seeing his work, but working with him was even more impressive than I could've imagined.... We were running behind on the big day and he made us feel so calm... he literally felt like family while remaining professional the entire time. Josh was almost like a ninja capturing moments without being recognized, and somehow disguising crowds of hundreds of people in the busiest parts of D.C. To create solitude glory. He has vision, can provide instruction, and remain virtually in-invasive as possible while capturing the most special moments. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that my husband and I both agree, without Josh we wouldn't be able to remember the most special day of our life the way we can now. If you're looking for TOP NOTCH wedding photography with the most kind, understanding, accommodating, and professionally skilled photographer on the eastern coast, Josh is your guy. Thanks again for making my day perfect. Signed, A hard to please but happy bride (and groom)! 🙌🏽

What can I say...He was the consummate professional. From the time of selection he was interested in the type of shots we wanted and requested to see inspiration photos. On the day of our wedding he showed up on time and it felt as if he had investigated our wedding location to ensure our photos moved seamlessly from pre wedding, wedding candids, and post wedding. My family and guests felt like he was a member of the family. He was patient and took photos that not only fit our personality but exceeded our expectations (per the inspiration photos provided before the wedding). He delivered the finished photos on time and from first look until now all I see is how awesome they are and how we (the entire wedding party) party thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We definitely plan to sit with him again for portraits. I think we have found the our photographer of choice for all upcoming occasions. We recommend have been recommending him as our photographer of choice (especially to all who have seen our wedding photos.) Thanks again for everything!!! Respectfully, The Minors (May 24, 2018) 😀

We hired Gabe to do photography for our wedding and reception, and we could not have asked for a better experience. He was by far the most cost effective quote that we had gotten, and he was a thorough professional throughout the experience. He understood exactly what we needed from the pictures and followed through and delivered exactly what we needed. He was great with our guests, and they really enjoyed interacting with him (may of them have indicated that they will be reaching out to him for future engagements). He made them feel comfortable, without making them feel awkward, and even got a lot of our guests who are somewhat camera shy to feel at ease. You can tell he enjoys what he is doing and interacting with people to make them smile. The photos themselves turned out great. Overall I would highly recommend Gabe to anyone who is looking for a great photographer who not only delivers great pictures but is fun to be around.

I am so happy that we found Ilya to do the videography for our wedding ceremony. He was responsive and professional from the beginning and willing to work within the restrictions set forth by our church. We received the edited video within a mere days of our wedding so we were able to enjoy and relive during our honeymoon! Ilya was wonderful to work with and I will definitely contact again for any future projects.

One of the best Photographers the DMV has to offer! We actually came across Jamaal while he was covering my Soror's Wedding in Baltimore this past year! We had been looking for a photographer for the longest time and we were farmiliar with is work, but watching him while he worked is what sealed the deal for us. He floated around the room effortlessly leaving so many smiling faces in his wake, including ours. We didn't even need to see the final photographs, we were already sold(The Photographs were pretty darn awesome too!). We immediately reached out to Jamaal to schedule our engagement shoot and he didn't disappoint! My partner and I were brought to tears by the images. His turnaround is unmatched! (1-2 days). If you're on the fence about booking Jamaal, consider this the push that gets you over the fence. Book him. Now! You will not regret it, we didn't! Not one bit!

Hire him!! Elmo was phenomenal. My wedding gift to my best friend the bride was the photography. It was nerve wracking to take that on as I did not have a referral and chose St. Elmo solely based on the website and reviews. Elmo is an expert at putting people at ease, blending in with the crowd, getting natural shots as well as posed photos. When I need a photographer again, I will hire him. I recommend him without reservation . You will not regret it.,, hire him...

Title: Awesome Wedding Photographer Julie captured every amazing moment of my wedding. She made everyone feel at ease, making for the best candid and posed moments. She took a tight space and made it work with a creative thought process. She even got my rowdy wedding party to take direction for the best photos. She was on time, fun, efficient and super creative. Highly recommended!

"I can't recommend Candice and her team more! They consistently exceeded every expectation and then went even further with our event. As a wedding photographer with over 25 years in the business, they easily stand among the best I've ever dealt with. To trust them with my wedding was HUGE to me. After two email conversations between my fiance and Candice, I never asked another question. She had it ALL under control. Kudos to her and her team; easily someone I will champion as the best in the business!"

I could not have asked for a better photographer for my wedding. Not only is she an amazing photographer but she's the biggest sweetheart I've ever met. EVERYONE at my wedding loved Priscilla and the group she brought. I want to have another event where I need a photographer just so I can hire her again!! I don't even know what else to say because my experience was beyond perfect. I encourage everyone to use Priscilla with absolutely no hesitation.

Unlike the standard $2000+ wedding photo offers we received, Metin understood that we were having a small, family wedding with limited needs and a limited budget. He met with us at the venue weeks before the event, then came on time and worked tirelessly for four hours to chronicle every moment of our ceremony and reception. We are very happy with the memories he provided us. Highly recommended.

I'm so happy I picked Naomi as my wedding photographer. From our first conversation, to her thorough planning questionnaire, to the coverage of the wedding and finally to her follow up on the photos. She was helpful, thoughtful and organized. She and her assistant shooter got great shots and placed themselves strategically at the wedding to get amazing candid shots. I would definitely recommend her to anyone planning their wedding.

Rachel is a real pro - if you are looking for beautiful, real, crisp, clear portraits, engagement and wedding photos, family photos - anything - look no further. Rachel instantly made me feel at ease in front of the camera and knew exactly how to guide my fiance and I to capture authentic and natural photos. She is brilliant at using natural light, too. We could not be happier!

It was the most wonderful decision we made to have Bria be our wedding photographer! She was proactive in talking to us beforehand about any shot, styles, angles that we would want for the big day, and she got in all the shots that we wanted! The way she beautifully handled the lighting, angle, contrast, and capturing candids was phenomenal and very talented. The image qualities were great, editing couldn't have been better. The finished all of the photos very promptly. We highly recommend Bria to all our friends who might want to use her talents to preserve memories of a lifetime!

Greggo Lee Films has been my go to cinematographer for my international service trips. I travel with 15-20 kids each year to Belize and the owner of Greggo Lee Films personally attends this trip and documents the entire journey. His level of professionalism, energetic interaction with the kids and locals, and flexibility during the trip were unmatched. I was highly impressed by the photos and video he created. There were many memories that I had no idea were captured until I received the final product. His eye for a great shot is impeccable. I would highly recommend using this company for any event domestic or international.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
