Tony did a great job installing my washer and dryer, moving some plumbing around so I could have them exactly where I want them, and installing a new spigot. His prices were completely fair and reasonable and the work is top notch! We will be hiring him again for some other projects around the house.

I really couldn't say enough good things about these guys. My Washing Machine and dryer broke so I was stuck with a load of wet clothes and no desire to deal with the laundromat. I figured I would hang the clothes to dry, call a repairman and hopefully have a working dryer in a couple of days. No need, they came out the next evening I called and had it fixed up in about an 2 hour for a bargain price! I slept soundly in my dryer fluffed PJ's confident that the repair will last :) Absolutely the best choice for washer/dryer repair in the area! Ps: thanks Donnell !!!Good job!!!

I had never used Thumbtack before I had my excellent experience with Great Scot Cleaning Systems. I had just stumbled across Thumbtack on the Internet, and nobody I knew had used it. So I took a chance. I posted my wants and within an hour several people had responded, with estimates. Great Scot Cleaning went one step beyond -- they not only sent me a quote very quickly, but Mr. Scott the owner called me within two hours of sending that estimate. That's a go-getter in my book! I was immediately impressed, even though his quote happened to be the highest of all I received. But that was okay too. I knew the scope of what had to be done in cleaning my rugs, and I had my suspicions that the lower quotes were frankly too low for what the job would take. I had explained that it was my first time getting my rugs cleaned when I put in my request, and I hoped that would indicate that I am not a regular cleaner of rugs. I was clueless, but not clueless enough to think you could clean five room dirt cheap (to use a pun). So after I spoke with Mr. Scott on the phone, I made an appointment to have them come in. I liked everything about them so far. They showed up on time on the date arranged. Mr. Scott himself came with some heavy-duty cleaning equipment and two young men whom he supervised throughout the time they were at my house. I felt very good also knowing that "the boss" was on the job overlooking everything. After they cleaned each room, they asked me to look at it, showed me the dirty water so I could see what had been picked up, and did all of this with unfailing politeness. I asked for another room on the spot, and they were able to do that also, adding a very fair price for the additional room and doing a great job. I would have them back in a heartbeat! In fact I am hoping to have them back when I am ready to get my upstairs rugs cleaned. Thank you, Great Scot Cleaning Systems and Thumbtack.

Washer wasn't draining. Diagnosed that it was a clog. Cleared the clog but that did not work. Determined it was something else that was much more extensive. We decided to just get another washer. Only charged the trip charge.

My movers would not move my washer and dryer in my 3 story townhouse. Needless to say, I needed someone to move them from the garage to the hall closet on the 3rd floor and also install them. Andre responded right away and was able to come out on a Sunday evening at 5 pm. He even went to get the parts needed to complete the job. I have already washed a load of clothes and it is now 8 pm. I could not ask for better service. Thanks, Andre.

Frank did a great job repairing my dryer. He was able to give a reasonable diagnosis of the problem and a quote to make the repair over the phone. When I hired him he did come out and confirm the issue and the quote before ordering any parts. He was very punctual, friendly and professional. I thought he charged a fair price and the dryer is working great. I would highly recommend his services.

Greg did an excellent job with our ducts and gave us a very fair price in doing so. I would recommend him to anyone in the market for a duct cleaning, dryer vent cleaning, or any HVAC cleaning/maintenance. I will definitely be keeping his number handy for future vent and dryer cleanings. Thanks, Greg!

MC electrical is the best Mike is great best price best Speedy service with quality work and effort had a dangerous situation going on in my 43 old Springfield home bad 220 volt dryer circuit. My old 200 amp service had no main breaker Builder must have been taken a short cut and got away with a lot of shortcuts back in 1975 regardless things started failing and had near potential fire Mike identified issues immediately with assistance from his employee John. Replaced the inside and outside electrical panels plus completed proper grounding and bonding many other things in my family safety was his number one concern. If anyone needs an electrician I recommend him to anyone and everyone for sure

My project was fairly involved. I wanted to convert an addition to a laundry room complete with washer hookups and new electrical outlet to support the dryer. I got 4 respondents on Thumbtack and Eric gave me the most reasonable quote. It turned out the job required him to crawl under the house in the dirt to run water and electrical lined which he didn't balk at in the least. Although Eric works by himself, the job was completed in a timely fashion. I was provided receipts for all materials. Eric was mindful about my animals and made sure he cleaned up any mess he left behind. His work ethic is not something seen in this day and age and I will recommend him to anyone, and of course use him again should the opportunity arise. Note: Eric does not take credit cards.

Christian mounted a tv, hung a huge mirror over the sofa, installed a ceiling fan in the kitchen and assembled an organizational shelving unit from Ikea in the basement/office. He installed my washer and dryer for a small percentage of what Home Depot wanted to charge. I was delighted with every job he performed. He was friendly, organized, professional, conscientious, courteous. I will be rehiring him for some outdoor work when Spring arrives. He is my go to guy for everything.

Called them to add new tile fixtures to a kitchen. Did that very well and on the same visit, ended up fixing my washer, dryer vent, bathroom light switch, my daughters bike and assembled a toy play house..I ran out of things to give him. I'm sure I'll have more pesky jobs around the holidays that I just don't have time for and will call them back!

I have no problem recommending Borden Appliance. This was our first experience with them as we needed a service call on our washing machine and ice maker. Chuck knew right away without having to take the washing machine apart that it's time had come. I kind of suspected that ahead of time, but he reaffirmed. He recommended a couple of different brands and stores where we would find such items. Of course the ice maker was working just fine when Chuck arrived, but after listening to me explain what was happening and after running some quick diagnostics on our refrigerator / freezer, and after inspecting the rear of the unit he was able to solve the problem. The next day of course the ice maker was not working again, so I reached out to him and he quickly responded asking me to give the unite 48-72 hours to "reset" in response to his service on the unit. After two days the ice maker was running properly and making ice again on a regular and consistent basis! Finally, Chuck offered to clean all the dust and lint that had accumulated on the rear of our refrigerator on, around, and inside the vent area; he offered to do the same for our dryer to help maintain its efficiency. But he also suggested I save a couple hundred bucks and just do it myself, as he offered up advice as exactly how to clean / maintain those areas. So I took him up on his advice and took care of those tasks myself. Chuck was responsive, on time, offered sound advice, followed up to my post appointment emails, and he was fairly priced.

I had issues with my dryer and called Miller’s appliance Repair . It was a great experience with Ed and he showed up on time with short notice. Ed is friendly, knowledgeable, professional and did a great job within reasonable price compared to other competitors in the market.. He was very helpful and provided other good maintenance related suggestions. I would certainly hire him again for all my appliance repairs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.
