Professor Lunsford was my Statistics teacher at the University of South Florida. I also went to him for private tutoring. He explained concepts to me in way that was easy for me to understand. Dr. Lunsford is very knowledgeable and an outstanding educator. He made learning a lot of fun and showed genuine concern for his students. He always was passionate about his career and it showed. I wish all professors and tutors were more like him! I graduated in 2011 and live in Washington State. Even on the opposite side of the country he has been a wonderful mentor!

I've been working with T.Jae for over two months now, and I'm grateful for his perspective every day! He started as my Business Coach; we soon realized as a micro-business owner business and life are more-or-less the same. Now, he helps me with all parts: clients, motivation, self-esteem, relationships, and my crazy blended family. After working with T.Jae: • I have become aware of what I need in situations to keep me grounded. • I can stand up for myself/my needs in stressful situations. • I can have level-headed, actual conversations with my husband. • I have found a direction with my work, and I'm proudly working my business. I admit, not every day is perfect. I do fall back into old patterns. I do curl up in a ball and hide. I get overwhelmed and negative. BUT, they last a fraction of the time they use to. When I do fall off the wagon, T.Jae is always right there for me. Ready to listen and helps me work through my feelings. He has never made me feel wrong, insignificant or stupid. Instead, he gives me reassurance, gives me a new perspective, helps me create an inner strength. I am happy to continue working with T.Jae to see what more I can get out of life! I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to be a stronger, more giving, complete person.

I really enjoyed my experience working with Peter Rivkees. At first I was skeptical about how much I could really get in that short hour, but he would ask questions and provide feedback that made me think in ways I had not before. I was able to learn so much more about myself and work on issues that I did not realize had been impacting me as much as they had. Peter was warm and caring which allowed me to feel comfortable and not judged. The therapy helped me in my relationships, career, and overall confidence in myself and I would not want to change that experience for anything. I would highly recommend to others to find a therapist that can help them grow and challenge them to reach their full potential, Peter is a good therapist for the job.

Roxie is great. She does not waist your time. She does her best to get to the heart of the matter, then works with you to set up a game plan for success, as well as hold you accountable to execute the plan. I love that she provides a warm and inviting atmosphere and always welcomes you with a smile. I would recommend Roxie to anyone who needs a little guidance to get on or back on the right track.

I love this gym! I started January and in 2 months lost 10 lbs & 10 inches! For someone who's never really worked out before (other than walking on a treadmill), I'm amazed by the things my body can now do!! I've had PCOS for 20 years and it's always been a challenge for me to lose weight but I'm finally turning the corner and feel stronger and healthier than I've felt in many years. I have so much gratitude for Ulrick who's been such a supportive and informative coach. I conquered my toughest mental challenge thus far 1. By joining 2. Returning after that 1st workout! I knew then this was something I Had To Do For Myself! I know I'm ready for this life changing experience and this gym's going to get me there!! ~Melissa

I am very pleased that attended a course with Marina Piantanida. I did not just listen to lectures. I worked with homework, practice and assignments. I've heard and seen before, but the difference between theory and practice is huge. When you not only read, watch and listen to, but try to act it, and you see the reaction of the people to your actions, you get the desire to introduce this skill in your daily life. And the growing belief in that you are able to do all. You gain strength and excitement. In addition, listening Marina’s clear instructions, you begin to see and understand your own mistakes. Thank U!

If you are seeking a yoga instruction, Shelley Parris Williams is the one to go to. Aware of her practice in FL, I anxiously awaited for her arrival in NY so I could be led by her. Not only does she demonstrate knowledge of technique, but she taught me how to breath correctly (I knew I had been shortening my breathe with incorrect breathing) and takes time to connect with you. Guided by her words and movement, I experienced an "ahhhhhhh" type of experience. Everyone should share in this experience with her!

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

  • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
  • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
  • Defining your career goals
  • Creating a plan for job searching
  • Improving networking strategies and skills
  • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
  • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
  • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

  • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
  • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
  • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
  • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
  • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
  • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
  • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
