We had an amazing experience working with Michele. She is very experienced, professional, and showed up on time. She expresses clear knowledge of training dogs. Her method of training is to not only instill appropriate behavior in a dog, but to ensure that the dog's owners understand the training process and are able to follow through so they can continue to work with the dog without a trainer present. Michele helped our dog, Lulah, work on her growling and barking at houseguests. We highly recommend Michele/Awesome n Pawsome to ever pet owner!

Kris took loving care of my dog, Shelby, for nine years – from when she was a puppy until this past July when Kris moved out of state. Kris is kind, gentle, flexible, honest, and extremely dependable. She treated Shelby like her own dog, and her home was Shelby’s second home as she kept her for daycare three times per week (~8hrs/day). She helped me out in a pinch more times than I can count, taking Shelby last minute (even on weekends) when alternate plans fell through, keeping her late when I couldn’t get out of work, and even watching her overnight on occasion. It was obvious how well she treated Shelby given Shelby’s exuberance whenever we bumped into her. I could not have asked for a better person to care for my dog. Shelby and I both miss her terribly.

Desirea has done a wonderful job with our cat Max. He is a scaredy cat and doesn't warm up to strangers very quickly. She has been patient with him and he is warming up to her. We will use her whenever we need a sitter for Max.

Rayfield was wonderful! He was prompt & worked around our schedule. He spent the time to really LEARN about our dogs (we have 3 ...90lb dogs) & gave us A LOT of information on his first visit! He took his time, not being constrained to a preset amount & it was the same charge he had quoted ($85). He was here to really help us, not just for consult. He also came prepared with a harness, that we did end up buying, but he wasn't pushy at all! He gave us good recommendations for possible dog boarding, and we look forward to having him come back. I would definitely give Rayfield a try..... $$$ well spent!

We are here in Florida for the winter months. We like to go boating but the weather (or plans) can change last minute. Rob is very accommodating, allowing us to let him know up to a few hours before we decide what we will be doing. He takes care of my large senior Rottweiler/pit mix and my pitbull puppy. They are relaxed and happy when I return. I would highly recommend Rob.

We are so excited to have found Mary to watch our home and dogs (the girls) when we were in Italy for 16 days. He and her son Nick were wonderful!! After going through a number of dog / house sitters we found a winner!! And it was really cool to come home after over 12 hours of flying, airports and multiple customs / tea checks to find the house in order and clean. Thank you a zillion times over and licks from the girls...

I have left my 8-year-old miniature dachshund, Mocha, with JoAnn on a couple of occasions. I have found her and her home to be warm and inviting, safe and very dog-friendly. Best of all, I know that Mocha likes being at JoAnn's better than other places she has been boarded. I recommend Two Pups in a Pod to anyone who wishes to board their dog in a homey environment. I can assure you that your dog will enjoy the loving care given by JoAnn.

Angela Gipson truly loves animals and is very knowledable . She was wondeful when she took care of my dog Cappy. HE can be quite a handful but she was patient and soon he was attached to her, When I recently left him for a week, I came back to a happy, healthy dog. She taught me some great tips when I walk him my self. She kept his feeding and walking routine to perfection. Now I can go away without quilt and my doggie gets a vacation too.

Celia's pet sitting service has been wonderful for us! Celia has had Joleen come to our house every weekday for an hour to play with our dogs for the past few years. Joleen has always been very reliable and has been very loving to our two dogs. She plays with them the entire time she is here and they are always happy to see her. We are sorry to be leaving the area and will miss Joleen very much.

Our experience with TLC for dogs was very satisfying. Lane came to our home daily for one week while we went out of town. Our cat was taken care of in every aspect. She seemed very contented when we returned. We will certainly use Lane's service again !

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
