Professor Iveth Pavon helped me prepare to take the CLEP exam and test out of Spanish class at my University. I had some prior knowledge in Spanish but she was a huge help and clarified things such as the forms of past tense, future tense and present tense. She also helped me increase my vocabulary amongst other things. Excellent professor for high and low level Spanish lessons, I highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn the language or increase what they already know. I know I certainly did. Also I passed the CLEP :) I don't think I would have without her lessons.

I was looking for someone close by that would be willing to teach Spanish lessons in a face-to-face setting. Jeannette provides me with Spanish lessons 3 times a week at my house. She is punctual and organized. Jeannette will assign homework if you want and is helpful at clarifying any questions you may have. I have recommended Jeanette to several people I know personally and would recommend her to anyone here on this site. I know she also does lessons online if you're so inclined.

She is an excellent teacher who works according to our needs, our learning style, and pace; it is the reason that we looked for private tutor in the first place. She is very knowledgeable to the subject and provides various methods to enhance learning another language -which can be difficult for some people. We (my 2 girls) love learning Spanish and looking forward the next section. Strong recommendation!

I've been working with Jose doing private Spanish lessons for a couple months now. It has been a great experience. Jose is patient, knowledgable, understanding and personable! I feel like I've improved a lot in my abilities - not only with vocabulary but also with practical conversations. He is flexible in his timing and offers a great service for a reasonable price! Highly recommended!

I Highly Recommend Maria Moreno to anyone who wants to learn spanish or build on what they already know. Maria goes above and beyond to help you speak, comprehend and retain the lessons. She is always very prompt with class times and flexible with any changes that I have had in times or days. I would not change any thing about the way her classes are taught. I appreciate everything she has helped me with so far.

I had one class with Aleyda and I prepaid her for 10 classes upfront. That’s how good she is. She is always punctual and professional. I really gravitated towards her because she seemed prepared to challenge me with material that was appropriate for my level right from the start. Every class she does so. I am engaged and enjoying the journey. That is a rare experience to have with anything. She is charming and knowledgeable. I’ve been trying to learn Spanish for many years and I feel like I am finally making a breakthrough with a Aleyda. You can tell she’s been doing this for a long time. I am definitely prepaying for 10 more classes and most likely the entire year. Don’t hesitate to hire her to learn Spanish now!

Professor Aparicio was an excellent teacher. She is not cheap: I did a 48 hour course personalised just for me and my needs over several months, and it is the best money I have spent learning Spanish!!!. She is so well versed in languages and makes the most of every hour in the course, that I will be grateful forever. She has opened a whole world of Spanish languages and cultures for me. She is very demanding and pushed me to achieve my professional and personal goal of speaking Spanish!!!! She is the best language teacher I ever had and I wish she would have taught me Spanish since the beginning. I can strongly recommend Language Master Group services and her teaching in particular.

Senor Lopez was an amazing Teacher. I learned Conversational Spanish, very quickly. Also, he arranged for me to stay with a family in Cuba for 2 weeks, through Isla Bonita Cuban Travel to immerse myself in Spanish.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
