Bruce was fantastic and educated me onto what he was doing. He also provided tremendous service and at a great price. I had irrigation misters installed and Bruce was able to go above and beyond. Highly recommend.

The Tech that came out was Eric, he was 15 minutes early, which impressed me. The other company I asked for an estimate never showed up. I signed up with Eric. I hope they do a good job, I have lost grass and plants with my old lawn management people.

The crew was delayed but arrived within a reasonable interval from what was promised. They roamed our roof with leaf blowers to loosen the hurricane debris from the gutters, and loaded a full trailer of moldering tree debris from the street in front of our house. The price was fair for a couple of very unpleasant jobs.

He enlarged my tree ring by adding more stones and soil. He planted several plants for me also. He also put mulch down everywhere that I had plants. He also removed some bushes for me. He cleaned up everything, taking the trash and bushes that he removed with him. He was very good and helpful.

Danny was top! I had to replace broken heads and repair sprinklers. Chris was quick to respond. And, Danny was at my place to give estimate within no time. On the same day he fixed my sprinklers. I had to call Danny the next day because one sprinkler stopped working. Without no hesitation he made another trip to my house and took care of the issue. So, I highly recommend these guys. I think it was worth it to to pay a little bit more compared to other low cost irrigation service providers. And, they gave years of warranty on workmanship so it's a +. Highly recommended.

Joe was on time and on point!!!!! He paid attention to the details and surpassed my expectations. I needed 5 cubic yards of dirt (that a lot of dirt) moved to various areas of my property. He also relocated fruit trees and dug holes for other plants. Filled and moved all my planters (they are big planters) and did it all with professionalism and a smile. I really appreciated his suggestions and execution. I would recommend him and I would hire him again!

We were so impressed with Kathy and George’s work. They took our overgrown weed filled yard and transformed it into a beautiful masterpiece in just one day! There are so many good things to say about this pro team so let me start with how she arrived early to the appointment and the following day (unlike so many other contractors we’ve had in the past) so that impressed us right away. Just moving here from IL to New Port Richey we were clueless on how to take care of the palm trees and bushes, and what to do to give our home some much needed curb appeal. George was awesome in cutting back the overgrown palms, offering his expertise in plant care, and giving me great suggestions for what flowers and plants to get. Kathy and George worked hard all day pulling out weeds, laying red mulch, and planting the plants and flowers. Everything turned out so beautiful even the neighbors complimented on what a nice job they did! We continue to be so happy and proud of our yard thanks to these friendly, hardworking pros. Kathy is awesome! Don’t hesitate to call her for an appointment!

I called RDP Services after having the Plumbing Company who had installed our GE water softener come look at the unit. They said the unit would cost more to fix than to have it replaced and tried to sell me a highly overpriced unit for out needs. I decided to get another opinion and that's when Robert from RDP Services came out the day after I called him. Best decision I ever made. Robert was extremely knowledgeable, professional and thorough. He went over the entire unit and was able to fix our problem. He did not try and up sell us on things we did not need. He should me what the problem parts were and replaced them. The unit is back up and running like new. I could not be more pleased by the service we received from Robert and would highly recommend him to anyone who needs water softener or water filtration repairs.

Initially I thought Dan was the right pro for the job however upon hiring him I was disappointed with his lack of communication. He was schedule to show up at one time but didn't actually come until hours later, which would have been fine but at least a heads up would have been nice. Both days I had to reach out to him to ensure he was coming. Very unprofessional. He did finish the project on time however my reason for the poor review is the quality of the plants installed as well as what I deem as a lack of knowledge. He states the reason he was late one day was because he had to go to Tampa to get the plants because this nursery had the best plants. Before the plants were installed they looked half dead to me. Trusting his judgement I let him proceed without making any remarks. He told me to water the plants once a day for 30 days. After a few weeks some of the plants appeared to be dying. He mentioned that he guaranteed his work for 30 days. Well before 30 days I called to let him know that I was doing exactly what he instructed and the plants didn't seem to be thriving. He was in the area, stopped by and said it was normal for them to look like that. Thinking perhaps I didn't give them enough time I accepted that answer. A few more weeks went by and the plants are still not thriving. Frustrated and upset I contacted him again this time to request that the dying plants be replaced. He agreed to replace the dying plants. 2-3 weeks went by and I heard nothing from him. I reached out to him again to ask if he forgot about me. He stated he planned to come see me Friday. Friday came and went and I never heard from him. At this point I'm tired of trying to hunt him down to do what he said he "guaranteed" he would do. I feel like I was over charged and he didn't deliver. I would not recommend this landscaper. Now I have 3 dying plants (including one palm tree) that need to be replaced. The attached pictures are what the plants looked like no more than two weeks after install. This does look like high quality plants to me. Either he didn't know or didn't care. Had he have kept his word and replaced them this would have been a totally different review. I can look past being late and some of the plants not thriving, because perhaps that's out of his control but if you "guarantee" to do something, you should do it. I should have to wait a month and never hear from you. DO NOT HIRE HIM.

I was ready to just pull everything up and put down shell or stone, I was so upset over many years going through different lawn management companies. My yard looked terrible, plants were suffering and the other companies would literally cut, blow and go cutting my grass down to dirt. John came in and rescued everything giving me several options. The value of my home has risen with landscaping and lawn care and I love my yard again. He is extremely knowledgeable in lawn and plant care for this region. He works with his crew, listens to what you want and explains what will work and what won't so you don't spend money foolishly. He has a strong morale work ethic. I am extremely happy and highly recommend him. Kris

Brian is fantastic to work with...attention to detail both from a technical perspective as well as prompt scheduling and invoicing. Our project involved a complete irrigation overhaul of our 1/3 acre and drilling a well. He worked seamlessly with and around our landscaping and pool companies. Brian's demeanor is very professional and his work is high quality. We will absolutely use his company again and recommend him to our friends and neighbors.

Fantastic quality. Their ideas were different than the others and they explained why they were suggesting this option over the others. They installed a patio, fire pit, retaining wall, and corrected a major water drainage issue. They had a realistic drawing with the idea as well so we were able to visualize it. Highly recommending Allscape Patio and Landscape. Thank you!

Anthony was great, he quickly diagnosed the electrical problem with our irrigation system and determined that less equipment needed to be replaced than a prior company had suggested. He suggested some changes to improve our irrigation and at a reasonable rate for the work. We also wanted to estimate how much a rain water storage system would cost and Anthony was creative and experienced enough to make a plan for us. We look forward to having our work done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
