John installed a dishwasher for us. Was very fast, polite, inexpensive and knowledgeable. We bought a floor sample at Lowes and it didn't have all the parts with hit for him to work with. He got it operational and then came back after we got the parts and finished it without charging for his second trip.

AWESOME AMAZING HELPFUL COMPETENT POLITE PUNCTUAL HARD WORKING Fabian and his team are lifesavers! They were hired originally for popcorn removal and painting of an entire townhouse I purchased and have to gut from top to bottom. It turns out Fabian has an entire crew that is able to help me with every aspect of this project - from the complete demolition to cabinetry to flooring to electric to plumbing to actually every aspect necessary for me to move in promptly. His crew gets things done. They communicate. They are on top of things! Fabian is the best I have ever had and I am so fortunate I found him. They are still working in the house, but I expect that they will continue the suburb work they have been doing for the past week throughout completion.

I hired Gilberto to replace the tile shower and tile floor and to repaint a guest bathroom. He was professional, polite and couteeous during all of our interactions. He arrived for work each day on time when he said he would. He cleaned up his work area and removed debris when he said he would. I intend to hire Gilberto again for some additional painting and will recommend him to others. His pricing is reasonable and fair.

Ali did a great job repairing spots in our carpet that our cats clawed up. We weren’t ready to replace the carpet completely so Ali helped us extend it just a little bit longer. He did a fantastic job & was very thorough but got the job done quickly. You can’t even see the spots where Ali fixed them! He is an expert at what he does!!! I would recommend him for any flooring installation or repair jobs. We’ll call him when we are ready to change out our carpets for hardwood flooring!

What can I say...this all started with just replacing our floors in a home from 1964 we purchased and turned into a complete interior renovation where literally every surface was redone except for the windows. We decided to expand our project little by little asking more and more questions and Gabriel was right on top of it helping us to make easy decisions. In the end, essentially redoing the whole house removing all traces of the 60's was on tap for before we moved in. Now that it is done, I can say Gabriel and crew successfully turned an old dated house into a gorgeous new space and he and crew are the best crew in the world in my opinion. Not only Gabriel but ALL of his crew have gone out of their way to make sure we were happy and to make sure the job is done right. Gabriel is incredibly trustworthy as others have stated and his crew feel like family to my wife and I at this point. Our project took around 3.5 months including all permits from the city and everything is up to code. That is a VERY fast turnaround considering the scope of work involved...just waiting for permits took 3 weeks out of that project time alone. Basically, these guys were flying the whole time doing great work across the board and we are very happy customers. If you're reading this know that Gabriel and his crew and Luis with Conquer Builders (the General Contractor) are responsive, honest, proud, ethical, hardworking people who will do what needs to be done to make you happy. As expected with a project of this scope, surprises came up and there was never a moment where all hope or control was lost - there was always a plan to push on through and get it done, again, at breakneck pace. I could not recommend W&B, Gabriel, his crew or Luis @ Conquer Builders high enough. It is and has been a pleasure to work with them and we will absolutely be using them in the future. Internet reviews are often shady because you know their friends and family probably write bogus reviews and try to make them seem like they're something they are not but these guys are the real deal. You have zero worries hiring this company; I am not a family member writing this to boost their ratings, I am a very happy customer whose home is listed in the photos. We have cats and with every room being worked on, it was a HUGE concern of ours that they did not get out..Gabriel and crew respected the "safe room" boundaries and worked around it. If they needed to get in that room, they would let me know and I could come by and move the cats to another room so they could work. Most contractors do not care and will do whatever they want and not pay attention and listen to the homeowners...not these guys! Thank you for building our sofl paradise! Now we can unpack! :)

We had a tile, vinyl and baseboards installed through out our home. From the first time I met with Rob for the estimate until the final installation. I could not be more pleased with the results. He really knows his market and can give you the best advice according with your expectations and budget. Rob was efficient and patient throughout the process. His level of professionalism and dedication to the job far exceeded my expectations. The new kitchen backsplash is absolutely gorgeous! And I am absolutely delighted with our new floors! I would definitely use this company again and recommend them to my friends and neighbors. He is the great person to work with. ..In South Florida it's almost impossible to find a contractor that will provide the services promised, on-time, and within budget, but this is exactly what Van Cott Flooring did.

Extraordinary work. We had the floors redone when we bought the house and loved the baseboards the previous owners had. We thought we could reinstall them ourselves until we found that they were cut too long and needed professional help. He came out the next day and cut them reinstalled them. Fixed them made them look even better! Used scraps to install in the bathrooms. We also had him replace the door frames . Stuck to his quote, did an amazing job. 100% recommend

I needed the services of a professional highly skilled laminate floor installer with finish carpenter skills to complete my stairs. It was important to my wife and I to have our first riser and tread leading up from the first floor to have a rounded look instead of boxed (squared off). I listed my requirements for the stair job on Thumb Tack and Jeff from Precision Wood Floors responded within 15min. I included pictures of the project. Jeff reviewed the pictures, confirmed what I was looking for and explained my options. An appointment was made for the same day. Jeff of Precision Wood Floors arrived an hour before the scheduled appointment and went to work. The finish work was flawless, perfect mitre cuts and the material was used judiciously with very little waste. To sum up my experience with Precision Wood Floors I can say that a true finish carpenter arrived and completed my project. This was one of my best experiences having a home project done.

If you are remodeling your kitchen/bathroom or you need new flooring, look no further than Joe and his team from KJ Marble & Tile. The work that Joe and his team did in my renovation project was amazing. They replaced my flooring with beautiful, real hardwood flooring and completely remodeled my daughter's bathroom. Needless to say, she was speechless when she first saw her new bathroom. The quality of the product that they install is top-notch at an excellent price. They completed the project ahead of schedule and accommodated all of my requests. Their expertise is invaluable, which is a must if you as a customer have never been through a home remodeling project previously...KJ Marble & Tile is the place to go!...

Arrived on time and completed all jobs for our tenant. Saved us money on a new faucet by fixing the problem with the one we had and was able to find a economical way to fix the floor board under sink. He accidentally broke the light cover when fixing the closet and made sure to go back to site to replace the cover. Looking forward to hiring him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
