"Photography is special and it has shown me how important it can be since my son was diagnosed with cancer in 2014. That was a sad period in my life, but it opened me up to a lot I was unaware of. You don’t know how special something or someone is until you think you may lose it. I understand a lot more the importance and impact that milestones and memories hold. A photo from 20 years ago could mean the world. Seeing families and loved ones together interacting, warms my heart. I love capturing every moment and making the best possible photos. I love to be fun if the subjects I capture are into that. (I can be serious, too.) And I can direct you to make beautiful stunning shots. (Rain, clouds, or sunshine!) What I enjoy most are the people I photograph, the places, the scenes, the excitement of it all. The difference in moods from client to client. I can’t get enough of hearing back from happy clients about how beautiful their photos are. So I strive to do that each and every time. Also sometimes I’m blessed by making special connections with some of my clients and not just having a client sometimes, but a friend. (See review by Kacey.) She was beautiful and left me a forever gift, 5 stars. She passed away at age 29. She was such a great friend as well as a client first. I love that most of my work is done in such a peaceful environment like the beach. It's relaxing and refreshing. I also love coming home after a session and viewing all the images I've taken and finding favorites and seeing all the smiles, giggles, laughs, sad faces, and even funny images! I love to capture LOVE!"

"HIGHLIGHTS * EQUIPMENT: Blue Room uses ONLY professional level cameras and lens (Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 5D Mark III, Canon Speedlight EX-580 & 600, Multiple professional lens including 70-200mm, 24-105 mm, 50 mm and others as needed) * PROFESSIONALISM: Cindy and assistant photographers are on time, well dressed, mannerly, and manage groups with kind professionalism * IMAGE TURN AROUND: Turn around time is surprisingly quick: 7-10 days for wedding images, 2-3 commercial/architectural/real estate * STUDIO: The studio is a welcoming place to meet, look at samples, and view images on a large screen; coffee, tea, wine, and snacks are always available. The interior is one large room painted white, with multiple choices of backdrops, or our new fresh white ship-lap wall. * TECHNOLOGY: contracts are signed online, invoicing and payment processing is online, proofing images are online, print and album production is outsourced to a lab that only works with professional photographers. Your prints are drop shipped to your address or can be picked up at the studio. For commercial, architectural, and real estate work, I have special wide angle and 50mm lens for this purpose. I also bring additional lighting, if needed. I am willing to work with real estate agents by delaying being paid for the shoot until closing (residential only). All images are edited for the ultimate purpose needed. Different techniques are used: high def for architecture, brochure, print photography, and softening and lightening for wedding photography, for example. No image goes out of the studio without some type of enhancement. So the time spent shooting is only an incremental part of the total time spent on the beautiful images you will receive. Quality control is very important at Blue Room Photography. I have a degree in Communications from the University of Alabama with a focus on photojournalism. My career includes contract positions with the Mobile Register (al.com) and I know how to capture natural moments. This style works great for weddings and special events. Of course I include a "shot list" of expected and posed photos and offer an easy to use post-wedding experience for album and print ordering. My favorite part of the technical aspect of my work as a photographer is looking through the images the first time after a shoot. I love to see what I managed to capture."

"I would like to thank you for your interest in Photography By Chris Duval where we pride ourselves in going beyond merely capturing an image but capturing the emotion of the moment. It is my belief that to do this, your photographer cannot be focused on the bottom line or watching the clock. The focus of your photographer should be you and the most important day of your life, the one you have dreamed of for so long. As is so often the case, the precious moments in life come and go on their own schedule and not that of your photographer. How many weddings have you attended where the party doesn't really get underway until well after the cake has been cut and the photo staff have gone home? At Photography By Chris Duval, you have not just contracted someone to document an event, you have taken on a partner for the occasion: one who will place your needs and desires ahead of all else, one who believes that it is not their role to add to the confusion or complexity of the moment, but rather to complement your careful planning and execute your wishes. Please take a few moments to explore my website. In doing so, you will see that I am able to provide personalized coverage for any occasion. No occasion is too large or small. I have commemorated birthdays, baptisms, first communions, sporting events, as well as visiting dignitaries. My photographs have been used in print advertising and featured in the Florida Archives."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
